24.01.2022 We are so lucky that at the Brisbane Independent School we have beautiful classrooms grounded in nature. From the gardens, to the classroom jungles to our very own BIS tree that kids can climb, flora and greenery are embedded in our every day practices.

22.01.2022 Here is some proof that many hands make light work! Over the weekend we held our first working bee since COvID-19 restrictions were put in place. There were lots of jobs across the school which enabled people to socially distance. Between 12 people, we cleared our farm of weeds, dug and landscaped a new section of our Brisbane River Model (hello College's Crossing!), moved a whole garden bed, painted not one, but two fences and performed maintenance on all of our play equipment! There is something awe-inspiring about being a part of such an amazing community. THANK YOU PARENTS!

19.01.2022 Are you passionate about independent education? We are looking for some teachers and teacher aides to join our supply lists on a casual basis. Please email a copy of your resume and details to [email protected]

18.01.2022 Today a special thing happened at BIS. Check it out, after much fundraising and hard work, today we have shade sails! A big thank you to the Jetanns for helping out with out engineering! What an impressive structure!

18.01.2022 Thinking that BIS might suit your family? Message us today for a personal school tour.

18.01.2022 Today we have been learning about birds of prey and have been lucky enough to have been paid a visit by this feathered friend.

16.01.2022 It was 5 days before Christmas and all through the school, the wild life came out to play in our very own rock pools! Can you see the nesting pair of curlews that have settled in our dry creek bed? There are two curlews in this photo, but look closely because their natural camouflage is amazing!

15.01.2022 At BIS we don't measure our student's growth based on just their ability to spell or solve maths equations. Social and Emotional development are just as important as Academic development. For more information on some of the awesome programs we have, drop us a line by clicking on the contact us button.

15.01.2022 It's school holidays and you know what that means...when there are no kids around the toys come to life! Check out the big toys that were playing at BIS this morning, can you guess what they might have been doing?

15.01.2022 Imagination and role play are key to help children develop and support children in experimenting with decision making and role play. There are some little hidden secrets in our playground and every now and then we find something new. Little did we know we have a new neighbour!

13.01.2022 Term 4 week 10. The holidays are so close we can almost smell them! This is a worthwhile reminder, not just when the going gets tough, but any time we push ourselves to keep at something that doesnt come easily, or stand up for what we believe in. Remember who is watching, and that you are their superhero...

10.01.2022 It takes a community to raise a child, a saying you may have heard but one we live every day at BIS. Parenting can often feel overwhelming but we are here every step of the way to support you during your BIS journey. Jen Haynes, our principal, offers some insights into her own experiences.

09.01.2022 At BIS we believe that Difference is Strength. Explore more about what this means with our Principal Jennifer Haynes in the below article.

09.01.2022 Together with Seqwater, BIS has been developing our own model of the Brisbane River to educate our students on the importance of water conservation and agriculture practices. The installation of this amazing structure has been made by the loving hands of our community during working bees. We have installed a 9000L water tank which will help the students understand the journey of water as it "rains" up in the mountains where it travels downward, eventually joined by the "Bremner River" and flows into our own Brisbane City. The coarse rocks provide a challenging play surface for children and help with developing gross motor skills as they slowly explore the terrain and different surfaces. We can't wait to develop this further with our own "farmland" and eventually some bridges (because what is Brisbane without bridges?)

08.01.2022 Dad loves puns and so do we! If you are looking for some great ideas for this dad's day, look no further and check out these Tree-mendous cards that you can make yourself!

08.01.2022 We are so excited to be supporting the new STAGES education course that our Principal Jen Haynes has helped develop. If you are a Future Family or an educator interested in the model we use, this is the course for you! It starts soon so jump in quick while there are still spaces. The sessions are Sunday mornings but you can watch a recording and take part in a Q&A. There is also a course SLACK channel to stimulate discussion and learning between sessions. Jump in and learn about your child and your own development to become a more awakened parent or teacher! https://www.stagesinternational.com/edu20-stages-educatio/

07.01.2022 5 more sleeps until school is back, but we have been working hard to complete our fire safety training today, check out this awesome photo of Jemma taking the lead!
