25.01.2022 Today, State High facilitated the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation (QATSIF) Graduation Ceremony for our student recipients of the QATSIF QCE Scholarship. 24.01.2022 2020 Early School Leavers survey | The Queensland Government is seeking the support of the school community for the annual survey of Year 10, 11 and 12 students who left school in 2019, before completing Year 12. This short, confidential survey collects information about what young people are doing the year after leaving school. The results of the survey help provide valuable information to improve services available to school leavers in the future. Between August and Septem...ber, these school leavers can expect to receive instructions to complete a web-based survey or a telephone call from the Queensland Government Statisticians Office. Please encourage them to take part. If their contact details have changed, please assist the interviewer with their updated details or forward the survey to their new address so they can participate. 22.01.2022 On Friday 21 August, State High held a graduation ceremony for our Year 12 Certificate IV in Crime and Justice Studies class. The event was organised by the students as part of their final unit. We were pleased to welcome back Rhys McLeister (Class of 2018), who spoke with the class about applying for the Queensland Police Service and presented students with their certificates. 21.01.2022 In their final week of high school, our Year 12 cohort enjoyed a night of dancing, music performances and celebration at their Senior Formal. Well done to our Senior Formal Committee on their fundraising efforts and input to the 'City of Stars’ themed event. This week, parents and guardians of Year 12 students have been sent instructions via email on how to order photos.
21.01.2022 Today, during lunch, students engaged in our NAIDOC Week chalk art activity. They learned the significance of the symbols and icons used by First Nations Peoples to pass down knowledge and cultural stories through generations.

20.01.2022 Well done to our students who competed in the regional Opti-MINDS competition. This year, the competition was conducted in a virtual format. Our students did a great job in this creative problem solving event and demonstrated quick-thinking during the spontaneous challenge. 20.01.2022 Today, our GPS Cross Country staff and students officially celebrated winning the Jack E. Ross Memorial Trophy as premiers of the 50th annual GPS Cross Country Championshipsa first in State High history. Students signed the 2020 GPS Cross Country program for our Museum and our Executive Principal Mr Wade Haynes spoke to the students about the significance of their achievement.

20.01.2022 Come along to Bunnings Cannon Hill on Sunday 23 August and support our Cross Country / Track and Field and Rowing sub-committees sausage sizzle fundraiser. Sausages and soft drinks will be for sale from 9:00am 4:00pm. Funds raised will go towards much-needed equipment and repairs to support our students involved in these extra-curricular programs. 20.01.2022 Senior Success Conversations | At State High, we value the transition from the Junior School to the Senior School. Each Year 9 student and their parents/guardians are engaging in meetings with a staff member to ensure all students have an individualised program for their senior years.
19.01.2022 Well done to our Year 12 cohort on completing their final high school assessment. This is a particularly significant achievement as they are the first cohort to complete external assessment under the current QCE system. We congratulate them on their dedication to their studies right through to their final exams.

18.01.2022 Well done to our Student Representative Council on raising $560.80 at their Halloween themed bake sale. The funds will be donated to Beyond Blue, Lifeline and LIVIN to raise awareness and support for mental health well-being.
18.01.2022 We are being vigilant around everyones health and safety. Students who are unwell should not attend school. If they are displaying flu-like symptoms, a COVID-19 test should be obtained and clearance advised before returning to school. Students should only be sent back to school when they are well.
17.01.2022 As part of State Highs Book Week celebrations, our Library hosted a visit from pop culture book shop, Zombster. Students were invited to help select the graphic novels or manga that they most wanted to see on our Library shelves. The owner of Zombster also judged our online student Book Week competitionscongratulations to Winter Tenio (Year 8) and Chloe Liu (Year 7) on their winning manga and book cover designs. We have many fans of these genres and lots of new titles are already in the hands of our students.

15.01.2022 Our State High teachers have expertly prepared our Year 12 students for their Mock Examinations which commenced last Thursday. The results will be used to fine-tune the skills and knowledge for the final exam block starting in Week 4 of next term. We wish our students well as they enter their final practice exams tomorrow.

15.01.2022 From Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 October, State High competed in the Champion Basketball School of Queensland competition. Congratulations to our three State High teams which emerged age champions: CBSQ Girls Sophomore (Year 7 & 8) team CBSQ Boys Sophomore (Year 7 & 8) team CBSQ Boys Junior (Year 10) team... This success follows the senior Champion Basketball School of Queensland Tournament final which took place in the September/October school holidays, where our GPS Basketball First V team won the silver medal.
14.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 9 students, Kobi Hopkins, Malachi Little and Dawn Nikkelson, who have achieved first place in the Solid Pathways Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Aspirations Program (ATSIAP) State Final Challenge! The students worked together to complete two challenges; these involved designing a culture centre and presenting a persuasive speech on the chosen topic, Black Lives Matter, in front of judging panels during the live, online presentation.

13.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 11 students Estella Le, Kinjal Dani, Hoyeon Shim and Rhys Nickerson who participated in the 2020 Queensland Evatt Grand Finals, a model United Nations debating competition. As the Dominican Republic, Kinjal and Rhys achieved first place, whilst Estella and Hoyeon achieved second place as Germany. All four students have now been invited to represent Queensland at the national finals at the end of this year.

This day inspires and empowers everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and reach out and start a conversation. Through our ARC program and our Peer Support conversations, our students have participated in discussions around R U OK? We have focused on normalising help-seeking behaviours (everyone needs a little help from time to time) and the importance of building an inclusive, positive c...ulture because this helps buffer us all from the ups and downs. The students have also unpacked the simple, yet important, steps of asking, R U OK? Further activities to promote the positive messages surrounding R U OK? Day will run through ARC and we will be running our culminating activities during Wheel of Well-Being Week WoW (Week 2, Term 4). 11.01.2022 Yesterday, our House and Spirit Leaders held their 2020 House Spirit Day event. Students purchased House-coloured treats and items and participated in fun challenges to show their spirit and earn points for their House in the lead-up to this years Interhouse Athletics carnival.
11.01.2022 State High’s Cricket Sub-Committee has once again partnered with the Toyota Good for Cricket raffle competition to raise funds for our Cricket program. Last year, this fundraiser helped State High to purchase playing equipment for our junior cricketers. Funds raised from this year’s raffle will be used to purchase a new pitch mower for our Fursden Road Playing Fields. This will allow us to continue providing quality pitches for our State High cricketers each season. 10.01.2022 Student Free Day Friday 4 September | With the move to an ATAR for Year 12 students, a change has been made to the timing of the Student Free Day, initially set for Week 3, Term 4. It is now this coming Friday on 4 September and applies to all our students in Year 7 to 12. This replaces the day in Term 4. This Student Free Day allows secondary teachers from around Queensland to complete confirmation of results processes for the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority.
10.01.2022 Best wishes to our Year 12 students who commenced their external exams yesterday. Our 2020 cohort will be among the first in Queensland to be awarded an ATAR result as a part of the Queensland Certificate of Education system. We look forward to seeing them finish strong.
10.01.2022 The GPS Track and Field Championships being held today Friday 23 October at Queensland State Athletics Centre Main Stadium, will be live-streamed. The competition kicks off at 9:00am with the All Age 400m Hurdles and concludes with the flagship 4 x 100m Open Relay at 3:25pm. All the action from the track will be available to watch through clutch.tv. In the best interest of the health and well-being of students, staff, and communities, and aligned with current Government... restrictions the 2020 GPS Track and Field Championships will be closed to spectators. Athletes, officials, coaches, and limited school staff are the only permitted attendees of this Championship. 07.01.2022 Congratulations to Rani Carmichael (Year 12) who has achieved some impressive accolades. This afternoon, Rani was announced as a winner of the Outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Senior STEM Student Award at the 2020 Peter Doherty Awards for Excellence in STEM Education. Rani intends to use the prize to help fund her tertiary education in the pursuit of becoming a veterinarian. At the end of the ceremony, State High also presented Rani with the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundations 2020 QATSIF Young Indigenous Leader Award. #DohertySTEMAwards

04.01.2022 Alumni spotlight | This morning, the State High GPS Basketball squad was excited by a surprise visit from Brock Motum (Class of 2007) who spoke to the team in the lead up to this weekends home game against The Southport School. Brock (610") is a member of the Australian Boomers team, competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics and has been contracted to both USA and European teams. Brock is on his way back to Europe for the coming season.
03.01.2022 Today, some of our current Year 7 and former West End State School students visited West End State School to speak with Year 6 students about transitioning to Brisbane State High School in 2021. The West End students had lots of insightful questions and our students were able to share some knowledge and advice about starting high school. We look forward to welcoming all of our new students who are commencing State High in 2021 to our Orientation Day on Thursday 3 December.

01.01.2022 The Childrens Book Council of Australia (CBCA) formally celebrates Book Week each year. State High staged events throughout the week to increase students awareness of the importance of literacy and to improve their engagement with books and reading. We were pleased to welcome author Dr Anita Heiss who spoke to our Year 8 students, directly linking to their current Aspire English unit on Indigenous Sense of Place. In her presentation, she included her writing journey, rapped for them and incorporated her book, Growing Up Aboriginal in Australia. Our Year 12 English Literature students were particularly interested in her life as an academic, the stereotypes she has come across in her life as well as her thoughts on literary theory.
01.01.2022 We were scheduled to hold our Year 7, 2021, Curriculum and Extra-Curricular Showcase this evening. While we had a COVID Safe plan in place, we decided that it would be wise to postpone the event given the uncertainty around COVID-19 over the weekend. We are being a little cautious to ensure everyones health and well-being. At this stage, we have set a tentative date of Tuesday 15 September for the showcase. We will keep families updated about this exciting event.

01.01.2022 A reminder that Friday 14 August is the official Ekka Public Holiday for this year for people living and working within Brisbane city. As such, our school will be closed. The only staff on site will be the large team conducting scheduled enrolment interviews for 2021.
