25.01.2022 'Whether youve experienced one or more prior births by cesarean, your chances of uterine rupture while attempting a VBAC is less than 1%'. Uterine rupture can be a reason some women don't attempt a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). Studies have shown that risk factors lay more with augmentation and induction of labour, epidural use and a close gap between birth after a cesarean. 'Landon found that uterine rupture occurred for 9 out of 975 (0.9%) women who had multiple previous cesareans and 115 out of 16 915 (0.7%) women who had one prior cesarean birth'.

25.01.2022 That brief moment when baby is still being nourished by the placenta and held in mothers arms A physiological third stage of labour refers to when mother is left to birth the placenta on her own without the use of syntocinon (sythethic oxytocin) and the cord is not cut or clamped until the placenta has been birthed. High levels of oxytocin are released with the help of breastfeeding and skin to skin contact, and this helps the placenta to peel away from the wall of the uter...us. #Repost @andieandolliephotography Northwest Outer Brisbane, Brisbane Physiological third stage #andieandolliephotography #australianbirthphotography #brisbanebirthphotography #goldcoastbirthphotography #sunshinecoastbirthphotography #birthphotography

24.01.2022 How does position affect labour? In many cases taking upright positions during birth can decrease the need for interventions, result in a faster labour and can increase maternal satisfaction. https://fullcircleyoga.com.au//upright-positioning-for-bir

24.01.2022 #Repost @hypnobirthingaustralia Pre-loved or used? Love-scruffs or stains? Surge or contraction? Language and the way we use it is important. I buy pre-loved goods wherever possible, but I don't get around saying that I buy used stuff because that sounds gross.... 23.01.2022 My second baby was born all tangled up in her cord. When her head was born my midwives untangled her quick sticks and she was born with no issues. This can happen to approximately 1 in 3 babies, generally with no detrimental effects to the baby. Amy

23.01.2022 I'd always admire those mums that could forego coffee. I was never one of them! Those interrupted nights got me reaching for the kettle each morning

23.01.2022 Another rock star birth. Well done Natasha https://fullcircleyoga.com.au/birth-stor/f/the-birth-of-ari

23.01.2022 For those who have done pregnancy yoga what was your favourite pose or variation? For my last pregnancy I focused on stabilising my hips and stretching my tight piriformis.

22.01.2022 I will calmly meet whatever turn my birthing my take. Sometimes that means birthing in a carpark with some shocked police officers watching on, and there ain't nothing wrong with that. In our hypnobirthing training we teach parents tools to stay cool as cucumbers if they experience baby's choice of birth, and how to safely manage their babies arrival.

22.01.2022 #Repost @student_midwife_studygram How amazing are our bodies! The mother and the baby mould to fit one another...my body and my baby work together. Newborn and Fetal Skull ... At birth, the newborn's skull consists of five major bones (two frontal, two parietal, and one occipital) that are separated by connective tissue junctions known as cranial sutures. The sutures function as seams, and they are highly necessary to facilitate the movement and molding of the cranium through the birth canal during labor. They also allow for rapid postnatal growth and development of the brain. However, the bones that shape the cranium begin unfused, leaving several gaps between the individual bones of the infant's skull. These gaps are composed of membranous connective tissue and are known as fontanelles. 21.01.2022 Uterine ruptures are a huge motivating factor when deciding whether to have a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) or a repeat cesarean. As always it is about choice and for some women a repeat cesarean is the best decision for them, but when we reframe how we word the risks our fears of those minimal risks can be mitigated. In fact, you might be surprised to know that there is only a marginal increase in risk of rupture from a VBAC as there is in a standard vaginal delivery. Amy

19.01.2022 Mums and bubs classes start soon at Revive Whole Body. Here's a fun fact about Revive.....it's right near Mugshots Coffee Post-class coffee and walk anyone? Amy ... https://www.revivewholebody.com.au/

18.01.2022 Its world breastfeeding day! A day to celebrate the amazing act of feeding our babies, whether it be for a day, 6 weeks, a year or beyond. It's not a competition. But for something so natural it doesnt always come naturally. My journey feeding my 3 babies certainly wasnt free from complications. My first child had such a terrible latch I fed him expressed milk for 6 weeks before he was formula fed, with my third bub I endured 3 rounds of mastitis. There are support services... available to you if you need a bit of extra help, but again it's not a competition. What matters is how you feel about it. Be it a day, a year or beyond, feed for as long as it feels right. Amy

18.01.2022 What does a 'positive birth' actually mean? I guarantee you everyone has a different answer! For some it means a homebirth with the kids gathered around, others may want a hospital birth with minimal interventions and interruptions, for others a cesarean is the way to go. What a positive birth IS NOT is what someone else tells you it should be. A positive birth is not about a 'type' of birth, or whether you went pain relief free or not, or if you didn't need stitches. A pos...itive birth is about feeling good about the experience, feeling like you were able to make informed choices that were right for you, and feeling like an empowered and respected participant in your birth. After all, it is YOUR birth. What I love about teaching the Positive Birth Program is that we cover all types of births, and our techniques are just as applicable in a cesarean as they are in a natural birth (side note: we also have a world-first course just for caesareans though for women who need or want one ). I encourage parents as part of their birth preparation to explore evidence-based resources (don't worry, we point you in the right direction!) and form their own vision of a positive birth, one that is just right for you. It's your birth, own it. Amy

17.01.2022 Last night I held an info session and in it I talked about the role of support persons....a lot! I love seeing birthing mothers so lovingly supported x Repost @thehypnobirthingmum

16.01.2022 Mums, we are good to go for our free yoga class tomorrow! We will be set up on the OTHER side of the playground at Decker Park, near where the new basketball courts are. Chosen for its large shaded area and distance to hazardous places such as car parks and beaches! Please bring a mat or a towel, a drink bottle and good vibes. If you are bringing children please DO NOT worry about them making noise or playing but please keep an eye on them and I will do the same as much as I... can. I'd love to see you but not your lurgies. If you or your children are feeling unwell, or have visited any of the places listed in the link below then please sit this one out. I have had an incredible response to this and will likely be doing another one very soon. www.fullcircleyoga.com.au/bookings See you tomorrow! 14.01.2022 Beautiful birth story coming soon

13.01.2022 Seems to work for everything else

10.01.2022 I personally haven't experienced this, but I hear stories of women who are told to push because they are fully dilated but they don't feel the urge. This often results in mum getting stressed and worn out, the labour is deemed as a failure to progress, and often interventions are offered. Has this happened to you? Sometimes the best thing you can do is take a break, dance and move around the room to assist baby to descend. Most of the time you will naturally feel the urge to push, when the time is right. Amy

07.01.2022 Rebozo sifting is one way that you can rotate a baby into an ideal position for birthing, which can be a concern for women especially towards the end of their pregnancy. Using a rebozo, which is a long woven scarf, and a gentle sifting like motion on the excess fabric either side of the belly, this baby was encouraged to rotate into an optimum position and was good to go for birthing. It is also an ideal pain relief technique. I love teaching birth partners techniques such as sifting and more, making them an active participant in the birth process. Amy

07.01.2022 Today new restrictions have been announced for Queensland. We are all feeling disappointed, so here are some angry babies to make you laugh. Amy

05.01.2022 He is ten! I am so grateful that this beautiful soul has come into my life. He made me a mother and I've loved the last ten years with him. His birth was not great, an unnecessary medical event, but I cant regret it because it has sent me on the path that I am on helping other women achieve beautiful births. Happy birthday beautiful boy x

01.01.2022 I had an enquiry today re classes and are they still going to be face-to-face. Yes, they are but of course if directed live, online versions will resume. We have done it before, we can do it again! #thankgoodnessforzoom

01.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY: This photo was taken before I knew that baby number 3 was stowed away on board. I can't do this pose anymore. Trust me, I tried the other day and it was both hilarious and painful. But the truth is I now longer want to. It did nothing for me. These days my practice is more gentle, more patient, more forgiving. I honour my body and the changes it has gone through. I understand that I get more benefit from a simple forward fold that I do from twisting myself up in a pretzel and I am totally cool with that #honouryourself
