25.01.2022 Yes ;-) Very big things in store for North Ipswich & the Ipswich CBD with the North Ipswich Railway Workshops Complex & Ipswich City Councils final Stage 6 Brassall Bikeway (design feasibility study due 2022 - 2023), which will ultimately safely link Brisbane Valley Rail Trail users to the new multi-million dollar North Ipswich precinct via the pre-existing Brassall Bikeway network & across the Bradfield Bridge to Ipswich Riverheart Parklands & Nicholas Street Ipswich Centr...al Mall (due for completion during the latter part of 2021) in the Ipswich CBD. Discover Ipswich truly will be realised as a destination for day-trippers & multi-day Rail Trail users, with people able to safely cycle off-road from the BVRT into the Ipswich CBD straight to their hotel/B&B accommodation & access to a plethora of new outdoor dining options & other tourist hot-spots in & around the City. How apt that Trail users will be, "returning home", in a sense - back to the site of the birth of rail in Queensland & with direct access to The Workshops Rail Museum, which played an incredibly important role in construction of the Brisbane Valley line in the late 1800s as the North Ipswich Railway Workshops.

24.01.2022 The Pedalling Poet was out and about on the BVRT this morning, doing a quick blast from Brassall to Fernvale and return. Greg’s verdict on the Trail today was, The weather looked threatening, but it turned out to be a cracker of a morning. It was cool and the Trail surface is in great shape - firm and with very little dust. It was QUIET - normally I’d see 50 or cyclists and a similar number of folks walking, but today it was a whopping 6!... The magpies have all settled on this section, which is a relief. There are some trees down from recent storms, but these have all been moved off the Trail - a big thank-you to those responsible. The BVRT continues to deliver grand adventures.
24.01.2022 We're looking forward to the official unveiling of the new Benarkin Story Boards by our friends from Roy Emerson Museum - Blackbutt Tourism & Heritage Qld (BDTHA) on Friday, 4th December with South Burnett Regional Council! Story Boards by BDTHA have been placed at Jessie's Well, Taromeo Mill, the Sandy Creek Fire Tower & the Bora Rings. Photo Jon Newrick (Bushranger Bikes).
24.01.2022 It was a pleasure to attend Ipswich City Council's official opening of, "Tulmur Place", within the new Nicholas Street Precinct of the CBD this morning. Today's... opening was Stage Two of the $250M four-stage project, which includes new retail, restaurant (including al fresco dining), recreation & entertainment precincts & is slated for completion by mid-2021. "Tulmur", is our Traditional Owners' name for Ipswich & we were so impressed by the Indigenous focus that Council incorporated into the construction of this precinct; from the artwork on the underside of the pavilion, to the fish net sculptures above the children's Water Play Area. The Nicholas Street Precinct make-over is the largest transformation to have been undertaken in the Ipswich CBD in over three decades, incorporating iconic public art, an extensive facade illumination, & fine-grained laneway experiences, coupled with simple public amenities such as shading, ample seating, water features & free public Wi-Fi, creating an enduring, "sense of place", for both visitors & regular user-groups. Tulmur Place was today christened as the brand new location for the City's iconic monthly The Handmade Expo markets, & is also now home to the Ipswich Central Library & the City's first Children's Library. A swathe of events & activities are scheduled to take place within Tulmur Place over the next couple of months. What is perhaps the most exciting aspect about this make-over is that a brand new elevator system has been installed to directly facilitate connectivity from the northern side of the Bremer River (Workshops Rail Museum/Riverlink Shopping Centre) to the new Nicholas Street Precinct via the Bradfield Bridge. Eventually, users of the Brassall Bikeway & Brisbane Valley Rail Trail will eventually be able to directly walk/cycle off-road via Council's forthcoming Stage 6 Brassall Bikeway project (design feasibility study due 2022 - 2023) from North Ipswich to Nicholas Street Precinct & the Ipswich CBD. Rail Trailers will be afforded the choice of either travelling to Wulkuraka Train Station, or continuing straight into the City's CBD & to their hotel/B&B accommodation; spoilt for choice with access to a plethora of new outdoor dining options & other tourist hot-spots in & around the City to explore. And that's just a sample of what surprises Ipswich has in store - keep an eye out for upcoming works on the North Ipswich Railway Workshops Complex, which will feature two drive-in theatres, a central entertainment hub, putt-putt golf, rock climbing wall, basketball courts, gaming arcade & a twilight/special event cinema with a grassed seating area, along with more bikeways! Ipswich - Queensland's oldest provincial City, the birth of rail in Queensland & headwaters for Australia's longest Rail Trail - the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT)! Queensland's Heritage City has never felt so young.

21.01.2022 The Muirlea Trail Header, which we played a part in having installed along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, makes for a stately entrance to the gravel section of the Trail. Friends of Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Inc interceded on behalf of the Timbertowns Woodworking Group Incorporated with TMR in 2017 for the ensemble to be finally paid for (it'd been sitting in their workshop since 2011 gathering dust awaiting payment after a change of State Govt). It's sister ensemble (whic...h was also gathering dust in the workshop all those years back), sits at the Moore Trail Head, opposite Old Church Gallery Moore. Bring your picnic blanket, purchase a gourmet Picnic Pack, take a stroll through the olive grove, or find a shady spot in the lime orchard. 19.01.2022 There are some stellar delights in the night sky at present to take note of, with Jupiter, Saturn & Mars all clearly visible to the naked eye & putting on quite a show in the heavens above Over the next three weeks, Jupiter & Saturn will continue to appear to move closer to each other, culminating in the Grand Conjunction from December 21st. This event happens about once every 20yrs, with the planets drawing so close to each other that they will almost look like a single sh...ining planet in the sky. But the closeness of the two planets makes this a very rare conjunction. With only about a 10th of a degree separating the two planets, this is the closest they will have appeared in the sky to each other in nearly 400yrs. The last time it occurred was in 1623. These two planets won't appear this close to each other again until 2080. So, if you're out enjoying the coolness of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail in the still of the night, pause to cast your eyes skywards & marvel at this incredible natural sight Or even drag your telescope out on to the Trail for some prime-time Dark Skies viewing pleasure! 08.01.2022 Ultra-marathon runner, Jacqui Bell will feature on the ABC News Story at 7pm tonight. Ultra-marathon runner, Jacqui Bell, is the youngest person in the world to have completed endurance events on all seven continents & attempted her first FKT (fastest known time), & unsupported, BVRT E2E Run (Yarraman - Ipswich) back in August. Her body may have failed her, BUT...! She is going to have a crack at it again now over the first weekend in February (5th - 6th, February), running t...hroughout the night! From Jacqui: "Well, my first crack at the BVRT 161km was far from the perfect day out, but I was still in my element for the majority! I’m excited for Round 2 in November. Tackling an FKT (fastest known time) unsupported, means no spectators, or fellow runners. I wanted to know where my motivation would come from without racing against others/competing but, racing against the clock & my own personal goal, was as big a driver as any. I attempted to set a FKT, running all 100miles of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, but where did it all go wrong...this was the first time I have ever withdrawn from something, making the call to stop was far from easy (for those who are unaware, Jacqui collapsed at Coominya extremely ill with a virus & vomiting blood). It was this failure that taught me many more things than if I’d completed it. The week leading into something like running 100miles is so important, I thought that tapering my km’s was enough but it wasn’t! I expended all my extra energy reserves on everything else, which left me over-committed, run down, stressed, & far from refreshed when race day rolled round. Now I know I need to get a little selfish...I sleep WAY more, eat well, socialise less, & really, I just DO ME. Then I know I have all the boxes ticket to put my best foot forward. Control the controllables." We are so excited for Jacqui's second FKT BVRT E2E attempt. We are confident she will achieve this incredible personal record!! 06.01.2022 The celebration of National Bird Week (19th - 25th October) has its origins in the early 1900's, when 28th October was first designated by BirdLife Australia's predecessor, the, "Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union", as the first, "Bird Day". BirdLife Australia organises & promotes #BirdWeek annually, with the goal of inspiring Australians to become citizen science subjects & get involved in bird conservation efforts. During #BirdWeek, thousands of people from across the ...country head out into their backyards, local parks, or favourite open spaces to take part in the annual Aussie Backyard Bird Count. 03.01.2022 It was great to meet Joanne & her friends at Borallon along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT) this morning! They were cycling to Fernvale, specifically to the Old Fernvale Bakery, for some serious re-fuelling! ... You can access the FREE 24hr CCTV monitored Borallon Rail Trail Carpark directly off Borallon Station Road, Pine Mountain (entry on the R if approaching from the Brisbane Valley Highway / entry on the L if approaching from Pine Mountain Road). The Carpark is located on TMR-owned land where the Station Mistresss House once stood, between 91 - 147 Borallon Station Road, Pine Mountain, with direct access up on to the Trail. The site is ideal for horse float parking, with hitching rails also located at the southern border of the Carpark.

02.01.2022 Just finished a great 135 km 5 day horse ride from Yarraman to Lowood, magnificently supported by my partner Paul and accompanied by good friend Nadine. A huge... thank you to all who maintain the trail, it was fantastic, well signed, and interesting history along the way. Also to the cyclists we met who were (almost all) friendly and so courteous - a grateful thank you from a nervous horse!!! We stayed in a horse friendly B&B in Blackbutt and then yards in Linville (great pub food) and Showgrounds and everywhere people were lovely. Also learnt magpies ignore horses and there are loads of gates!! Thank you BVRT for a wonderful, if tiring, adventure See more

01.01.2022 Back in February this year, we posted about our involvement in lobbying Main Roads for turning lanes at the intersection of Borallon Station Road & the Brisbane Valley Highway. Over the years, the shoulder strip on the approach from the north has been somewhat widened, which serves in an ad-hoc capacity for this troublesome junction, but is not wide enough to be considered a, "turning lane". Now, more than ever, we are seeing the need for a critical upgrade to this intersecti...on for both residents & people accessing Borallon Station Road to reach the free 24hr CCTV Carpark for the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT), particularly as TMR are considering further upgrades to the Borallon Carpark to better cater for horses. We are pleased to report that we received the below email from Main Roads yesterday following-up with stakeholders who have made submissions regarding their $14.4M Brisbane Valley Highway Safety Improvements Project. Detailed design & consultation will soon commence & we are over the moon that certain *roads* along the Highway will receive turning lane treatments :-) We will keep everyone in the loop following further consultation with Main Roads, which will include a re-assessment of the current bus stop location within this vicinity. Many thanks to Jim Madden MP - Ipswich West for partnering with Friends of Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Inc for this incredibly important push for safety upgrades to this section of the Highway, which will not only benefit local residents, but Rail Trailers, in particular, those towing horse floats to the Borallon Carpark to use the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT).
