01.01.2022 HOW ART AND COOKING ARE HELPING KIDS OPEN UP ABOUT THEIR MENTAL HEALTH Making it safe for children to speak up about their mental health while cooking or creati...ng music and art can help save lives in remote WA, says clinical manager Delroy Bergsma. Mr Bergsma, who manages outreach services at Youth Focus, said he and his team collaborated with remote communities like Wiluna to deliver practical programs aimed at making young people feel less isolated while empowering them to open up about their head space. We find art and music come fairly naturally to people, he said. Its a good way of telling stories. For younger kids, even if its just describing their family and life they can do that through art. Or they can write that down and you can turn it into lyrics for a song. Listen to the full story on the program with Dinushi Dias (starts 14 minutes in): https://www.abc.net.au//programs/mornings/mornings/12418734 FOR SUPPORT, PLEASE CALL: Lifeline 13 11 14 Kids Helpline 1800 55 1800
