23.01.2022 It is with a great deal of sadness that the Brisbane Capitals advise that Paul O’Brien passed away last Saturday evening. Paul was a key contributor as a senior coach with the Capitals as an U18 Women’s Premier League coach and then concurrently assistant coach and head coach of the QBL Women, and in more recent times could be seen coaching junior club basketball with the West Brisbane Falcons. As a coach he was a real competitor on the court and off court open, friendly and ...enthusiastic to have a chat about the game he loved - basketball. On behalf of everyone connected with the Brisbane Capitals and Brisbane Basketball we send our sincere condolences to his family and thank him for his contribution to the game of basketball locally and the personal development of the players he coached. We will miss him. Rest in Peace

11.01.2022 Farewell Allan, a life-long participation and contribution to basketball in Queensland. Following is just a brief outline of Allans basketball participation. He commenced his involvement in Basketball as a youngster in the 1970s when he started playing with the Oakleigh/West Mitchelton basketball club under the coaching of John Chardon. He showed promise going through the grades, which allowed him to make several representative sides. He was awarded Life Membership of the c...lub in 2020. In 1978 Allan went to Townsville where he played for the Whirlwinds Club. He stayed there until 1980, picking up several basketball awards, including the 1979 win over Bouncers in the Annual Queens birthday carnival where he scored 20 points. On his return to Brisbane he was a part of the Brisbane Bullets squads, playing 22 games in 1981-1982-1983 scoring 36 points. He continued to play GBL-A grade in the Brisbane Basketball Competition for some years. Allan joined the Brisbane Basketball Management committee in 1993, and was a member to 1995. He was part of the fund-raising group for the Brisbane Blazers playing in the WNBL. From 2008 Allan was heavily involved in the Northside Wizards Basketball Association, where he served as committee person, President, and then since November 2018 as their CEO and chairman of the South Pine Sports Association Allan as a member of the Basketball Queensland Board from 2015 to November 2018 serving the last two years as Chairman. Allan was heavily involved in Score table functions and was an accredited Level 4 official, where he officiated at NBL, WNBL, QSL, and BBI GBL. He was seen at various centres each week performing his duties. While we will miss you we celebrate a life well lived and an immense contribution to our great game at Brisbane Basketball and the broader Queensland basketball community.

10.01.2022 Well it was a big weekend of basketball across Brisbane. We had a 6 teams qualify for BQJBC semi finals. The quality of games was extremely high with most games coming down to the wire. Two teams won their semi finals, the U14B Capitals Gold team and the U14G Capitals Silver team. Both teams ultimately fell short in the grand final however the teams showed that #CapsNation sprit and challenged to the end. A big thank you to the Coaches, Managers, parents and supporters. It ha...s been a crazy season but a successful one thanks to contributions each of you have made. To the teams who are travelling to State Champs, stay hungry and do us proud! #WeAreBrisbane

07.01.2022 We are happy to announce a new Mini Hoops program starting on Saturday the 14th November at Centenary State High School! The program will be run from 7:30am until 8:45am Saturday mornings. This is a grassroots Basketball program made for kids aged 7-11 years old looking to further develop their skills in the full court basketball game environment! The program will consist of a dynamic team warm up with an activity or game before players are placed into balanced teams for fu...ll-court gameplay. We currently have our Legends League program on Saturday mornings here at Brisbane Basketball before our junior competitions, and we would like to give access to this program to those living in the western suburbs and/or looking to sign their child/children up to the West Brisbane Falcons Basketball club.
