25.01.2022 Patient safety is our highest priority at Briz Brain & Spine. During this current outbreak of Covid-19 coronavirus we want to ensure all of our patients that we will continue to implement procedures to maintain a hygienic clinical environment. This includes:... - Disinfecting and wiping down all treatment surfaces - Regular cleaning of rooms and shared equipment - Thorough cleaning of all communal spaces including reception chairs, tables, door handles, pens and other shared items - All staff have access to infection control procedures and training to implement these as necessary For patients with appointments, if you are suffering any symptoms such as a fever, dry cough, sore throat, tiredness or shortness of breath or have recently travelled or been in contact with someone who has returned from overseas, please contact our friendly reception team before attending the clinic. A telehealth appointment may be an alternative method of speaking with our surgeons. We also advise you to contact your local GP or the Covid-19 Hotline on 1800 020 080 if you have any concerns. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this time.

23.01.2022 A young lady in her early 30s presented to her GP with a short history of headaches and visual disturbance. Over a longer period of time, she had been investigated for infertility. An MRI scan of the brain revealed a large solid and cystic tumour of the 3rd ventricle. It appeared to be compressing the optic chiasm inferiorly and also causing early obstructive hydrocephalus. 19.01.2022 The world renowned Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) team, led by Prof Terry Coyne OAM and Prof Peter Silburn, has recently published new findings on the use of DBS to better treat Parkinsons disease. Although DBS is effective at reversing some motor-related symptoms of the disease, it can lead to adverse neuropsychiatric side-affects. The teams research aims to improve the use of DBS technology so that such affects dont occur. The findings have been published in the journal Brain. https://academic.oup.com//d/10.1093/brain/awaa148/5859844

13.01.2022 Who is Dr Hamish Alexander? A neurosurgeon and spinal surgeon with a special interest in neuro-oncology who enjoys this demanding but rewarding specialty. He relishes the focus that is necessary when operating, especially down the microscope - the distractions of the outside world fade away and its almost like meditation.... Dr Alexander has always had a surgical leaning and has done a little orthopaedics and ICU but once he found neurosurgery, he hasn't looked back. Want to know more? 05.01.2022 This is the hardest post ever written on this page.... For all Craigs supporters my heart breaks to let you know that Craig passed away this morning. This was ...not expected despite things not going in the right direction. But in true Craig fashion he did things his way when he wanted. The only comfort I have for him..is that it was quick..he would hate for something to be drawn out or for him to be suffering too long...He would have hated to have lost dignity in front of those he cared about. My beautiful husband please rest now.. you have fought such a great fight ... and a very wise lady and such a special lady to us VIV said to me today .. HE WON.. he killed the cancer in the end.. it did not win.. HE KILLED IT AND CRAIG WON!!! I will never stop loving you and I will do my best. I will continue what you have started with raising money and awareness..I just miss you so much but you will never be dead in my heart and I will continue your legacy and you will continue to inspire others... He didnt get his morning coffee so I had it for you...

The therapy was tested in a clinical trial of 25 patients at Briz Brain & Spine in collaboration with neurosurgeon, Prof David Walker, and the Newro Foundation.
