24.01.2022 Airfix 48th Scale Walrus WIP update. Still a way to go.

23.01.2022 The upcoming club meeting on the 5th of December will be the last meeting for 2020. Most meetings this year have been virtual meetings on Zoom due to the Pandemic. For millions around the World 2020 has been a difficult and challenging year. We at Pakenham Modellers Group would like to extend our best wishes for the Season to all across the Scale Modelling community worldwide and the hope that 2021 will be a better, brighter year for all.

20.01.2022 Fulmar NF.MK.II 48th scale MPM. Possibly one of the most enjoyable limited run kits I have done, but still not one for a beginner. Good fit, particularly around the wings. Instead of using CA for the Photo Etch, I used PVA. Apart from the extra time to cure, I found this made a stronger bond and became clear when fully cured. Previously I have used PVA for canopies, however from now on I will use it for PE as well.

20.01.2022 WIP Fairey Fulmar Mk.I/II 48th Scale MPM, should be completing this in the next week. Possibly the best limited run kit I have ever done. Nice fit and detail, I have almost felt like I was building a Tamiya product. Will post completed photos.

19.01.2022 Supermarine Walrus Mk.I 1:48 Airfix: Almost at the finish line with this one. It is actually a kit bash of the Airfix and Special Hobby one. I used Photo Etch and Resin parts from the SH kit upgrade the Airfix one I used a jig in for the construction stage, to support wings. EZ ine was used for the rigging, which was long and complex. I don't think the Walrus would be an easy build even if it was produced by Tamiya or Hasegawa, but I do think Airfix has done the best job possible with a very difficult subject so this is a credit to the company. In my experience, this kit gives the best chance to achieving a satisfactory result with a 48th scale Walrus so if you are interested in the Walrus, i would recommend the Airfix kit with the qualification that it does require experience in the build

18.01.2022 Due to the extended Covid-19 lockdown, it was decided last night that the rest of the Club meetings for 2020 will be on Zoom. The Christmas Breakup Party will be pushed back to 2021 and will be used to mark the return to normal meetings in the Club rooms at the Outlook centre. Stay safe everyone.

18.01.2022 Blenheim Mk.1F, 48th scale Airfix. A very difficult and challenging build, particularly with the canopy fit but also with fitting the turret into place. I would only recommend this to an experienced builder.

16.01.2022 A tribute to Battle of Britain Day, all kits are Airfix 48th scale

15.01.2022 2009 Ferrari F60 (Formula One) driven by Kimi Raikkonen Kit: Tamiya, 1:20 scale by Club member Mark Wicks

15.01.2022 Tamiya Beaufighter TF.X 48th scale by Ross Brown. Over the last year Ross has become a prolific model builder. This latest model has shown how his skills have developed.

13.01.2022 Len Waters's P-40N "Black Magic", 48th scale Eduard. I believe this is the old Hasegawa kit re-boxed by Eduard with the addition of some very nice Eduard aftermarket stuff. This represents a great combination, as the Hasegawa P-40N was quite a good kit, and with the Eduard components, it comes up to modern standards nicely. The Markings are from Red Roo and the kit is done in the Markings of Warrant Officer Len Waters, 78 Squadron RAAF 1945. Len was the first Indigenous (Abor...iginal) Australian to gain entry into the RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force), the first to become a pilot and the first to fly a fighter aircraft. He overcame many obstacles and bigotry in the pursuit of his dream and gained a distinguished record of 98 missions. His memory is honored today by the RAAF and the Australian community in general. The book, The Missing Man was written about his life, it is a very good read. An amendment: A number of people have pointed out that it is the Mauve kit rather than the Hasegawa. I thank them for this correction. See more

10.01.2022 This model furniture is the work of a young lady called Toad. laser cut timber kit, block foam, cloth sheeting. The cloth and foam blocks she needs to cut to size from the sheet material approximate size is 1/72nd scale from a kit by a company called Cutteebee kit includes all the furniture for a scale house and then she has to build the house as well not a cheap kit but looks like it will be a rewarding build

07.01.2022 DH 114 Heron Mk II - Airfix 1/72 Progress Update: President John Gloz progress on this 61 year old kit. I suspect John will produce a better result than the kit designers originally envisaged.

05.01.2022 Important Notification: The Club's sub committee for the compliance to Government and Outlook Centre Covid19 restrictions, has determined that physical club meetings can now resume again at the Outlook Centre. The sub committee will draft a Covid safe seating plan to be implemented at physical meetings. In regard to this, the sub committee would ask anyone wishing to attend Club Meetings, to contact the Club a week before the meeting to allow Covid safe planning for the visit. The next Club Meeting on the 5th of December will be at the Outlook Centre Pakenham. We appreciate your assistance in this managing this issue, thank you.

03.01.2022 Blenheim MkI NF, 48th scale Airfix WIP. Getting to the home straight with this one, however this has been a tough build, quite a lot of fit issues around the canopy. A fairly complex build, not a kit to be recommended to a beginner, suited to an experienced builder.

02.01.2022 Static Grass Applicator-trying this applicator to create better looking scenes to display models on. It hasn't been difficult to use, however I am still practicing with it.
