25.01.2022 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL For people in North Central, North East, West and South Gippsland and parts ...of Central, East Gippsland and Northern Country Forecast Districts. Issued at 2:21 pm Thursday, 17 December 2020. SEVERE STORMS ACROSS CENTRAL AND EASTERN VIC Stay Informed: http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/warnings/ Weather Situation: A broad low pressure trough and high atmospheric moisture leading to favourable storm environment over much of Victoria today. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Warning area is likely to expand eastwards during the day, and contract from central districts during the evening. Severe thunderstorms may continue overnight in eastern Victoria. Locations which may be affected include Shepparton, Seymour, Melbourne, Wodonga, Wangaratta, Traralgon, Sale, Moe and Bairnsdale. The Victoria State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads. * Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet. * Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. * Stay indoors and away from windows. * If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways. * If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible. * Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees. * Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live. * Stay informed: Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website/app/hotline. The next warning is due to be issued by 5:25 pm. If severe thunderstorms develop in the Melbourne Area, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area.

24.01.2022 Something to think about from our neighbors at Kilmore.

24.01.2022 MOBILE PHONES WHILE DRIVING KILL New mobile phone detection cameras on Victoria’s roads are snapping one in every 50 drivers. Two cameras being trialled caught ...4000 motorists doing the wrong thing in just four weeks. This technology is already catching thousands of distracted drivers,'' Police Minister Lisa Neville said. The results were especially worrying because roads are less congested, which should reduce the temptation for drivers to reach for their phones. Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Libby Murphy said it showed mobile phone use was an ingrained behaviour in Victorian drivers. The cameras likely to be made permanent after a three month trial are detecting distracted drivers at twice the rate they did when introduced in NSW. Research shows the cameras could prevent almost 100 fatal and serious injury crashes a year.

23.01.2022 Were those little drafts annoying you during winter? Well guess what? Embers loooove those spaces! Time to fix up the drafts! Whether it’s roof tiles, doors or windows. Don’t forget the garage door!

22.01.2022 Are you trying to get on top of your fire season preparations? Burning off permits for windrows (piles), stumps, logs and vegetation larger than 75mm in diamete...r are needed from 1 October. We've prepared a handy checklist to help you burn off safely. All open-air burning requires notification to VicFire (1800 668 511) Fires are not to be lit on days of Total Fire Ban, smog alert days or during the CFA declared Fire Danger Period In many areas, including residential, you can only burn off on Wednesdays and Saturdays but you need to let the VicFire line know to avoid unnecessary brigade call outs Make sure you have a clear area around your burn and plenty of water available Find out more about burning off in Mitchell Shire: https://bit.ly/34b8Ulf

22.01.2022 Firefighters try to always be vigilant as to their state of hydration during incidents. So too, if you need to actively protect your home during a grass or bushfire you also need to be aware of your state of hydration. The below chart may help give you an idea as to your state of hydration and remember, the late stages of dehydration being dizziness, nausea, headache, cramps etc. all require immediate attention. It is recommended that when undertaking physical activity in extreme weather conditions (greater than 30C, accompanied by extremely low or high levels of humidity) that you drink up to 1200 ml of water per hour with a 600 ml electrolyte replacement drink per hour.

22.01.2022 Fantastic idea to promote charity in Australia with the release of this coin. If you find one in your change please donate it to a worthwhile charity of your choosing. Locally we have coin collection tins in supporting businesses and we of course would also love and appreciate you donating your coins to us on occasion.

22.01.2022 As volunteers we appreciate the support that businesses provide. This year the ARTC (Australian Rail Track Corp) kindly funded our purchase of torches for our members. Thanks ARTC.

21.01.2022 Leaving campfires unattended or abandoned is totally irresponsible.

01.01.2022 Road Safety Week is an opportunity to highlight the devastating impact motor vehicle collisions have on our loved ones and our first responders. CFA responded t...o a total of 4,350 motor vehicle collisions last year and during the warmer months we saw an increase on the monthly average. We know Victorians are making plans to get back on the road this weekend and over summer. We are asking you to make sure every journey you make is a safe one.
