25.01.2022 A good example of CAFS on a fire

24.01.2022 Parks & Wildlife Service has advised that restrictions to campfires come into place on 4 December. If you are going away on the boat camping, please make sure you are aware of the restrictions.

24.01.2022 You probably don't want a visit from us but if we are needed take this into consideration

23.01.2022 More great information from Bagdad Brigade

21.01.2022 Hazard icons across the country have a new consistent look. The new Australian Warning System introduces several changes to the way the community will be notifi...ed about hazards. We're rolling out the first stage of the changes to the Australian Warning System for bushfire in Tassie today. The changes will include the way bushfire warnings are displayed on the TFS website. From today, consistent colours will be used for: Advice (yellow), Watch and Act (orange); and Emergency Warning (red) The icon shapes will also change on maps from diamonds to triangles. While the colours and icons change, the meanings of the levels do not change. The changes are designed to bring consistency to the way warnings are displayed across Australia. Over time more states will use the new colours and icons and they will be used for other hazards like floods and storms. Further changes will occur in Tasmania in 2021, including enhancements to our warning messages. The Australian Warnings System is based on community research and good practice, in terms of what communities recognise and what gets people to take action during an emergency.

20.01.2022 Bagdad Brigade's tip is another one worth taking note of. And something to add. Remember when fire permits come off it doesn't mean that fires won't still escape. Infact there is often an increase in callouts for brigades

17.01.2022 Due to the forecast weather conditions an Embargo on all Fire Permits is now in place until 2am Saturday 20/02/2021.

17.01.2022 Yesterday at Pelham nature reserve fuel reduction burn TFS crews from Broadmarsh , Brighton , Risdonvale, Colinsvale and Wellington brigades assisted Parks crews on this burn. Unfortunately the predicted rain arrived earlier than was forecast and put a halt to proceedings.... Only about 20% of the burn was completed. It is hoped to finish the burn in the near future if conditions allow On the Broadmarsh Brigade side of things Larni Pitts and Jack Willson two of the newer members of the brigade were there to increase their experience of vegitation fires. Thank you for putting in the effort Larni and Jack This was Larni,s first fire and while we didn't get as much done as hoped it all adds up. Plus it gives Larni the bragging rights at home.

14.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) has declared a statewide fire permit period starting at 2am this Friday 4 December until the end of bushfire season. To obtain a fre...e permit contact your local brigade or call TFS on 1800 000 699 to make the arrangements. While the fire permit period is in place the following will apply: People intending to light a fire for burning vegetation or a similar purpose must obtain a permit. People intending to light a fire at a sawmill or factory for burning wood waste or other flammable material must obtain a permit. People intending to light a fire for cooking, warmth or disposal of garden waste do not require a permit provided that: o the fire is not lit in peat, humus, or marram grass o the fire is always attended by a responsible adult until it is extinguished. o all flammable material is removed down to bare earth at least three metres radius around the fire o it is less than one cubic metre in size o and it isn't in an area under Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service campfire restrictions. NOTE: some Local Government authorities prohibit backyard burning in residential areas.

12.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service requests that landholders avoid lighting fires on their properties for at least the next 24 hours due to forecast severe weather condition...s. Fires in these windy conditions will be difficult to control. Fires that have been lit in the past fortnight should be patrolled as the wind increases, even if they are believed to be extinguished.

11.01.2022 YEARSLEY ROAD FIRE UPDATE The fire yesterday on Yearsley Rd was an escaped burn. The owners were burning out a stump on Tuesday morning and thought it had been extinguished. It was checked late Tuesday afternoon and more water put on it.... Stumps and root systems can burn for a long time. As an example there was a root system that started burning in the first hour of last year's Pelham fire and we all know how long that went for. The brigade had a callout on February 14 to extinguish it. Six weeks after it started. It was just metres from the roadside a bank collapsed allowing smoke to escape. We put about 1500 litres of water on it before we were happy it was finally extinguished. If you have to burn logheaps or stumps leave them to late autumn or winter. Less stressful and you will have something warm to stand round. If you are going to burn off please register your fire with TFS on 1800 000 699 Have some way of extinguishing it And call 000 if you lose control of the fire

11.01.2022 The Brigade will still respond to callouts while the footpath works are going on at the hall. We will have to go out through the paddock. This will add a couple of minutes to our response time so please call 000 as soon as possible

11.01.2022 The Brigade had a callout to a vegetation fire last night at 11:30 on Bluff Rd It was someone doing a hazard reduction burn on their property. The fire was under control and the owners appeared to have taken reasonable precautions. What they hadn't done was to inform their neighbours who were understandably concerned as the fire was burning close to their property.... When burning off on your property can you take all necessary steps to keep control of your fire. Register your fire with TFS on 1800 000 699 And inform all your neighbours This will reduce the number of unnecessary callouts and disputes with your neighbours

09.01.2022 The Brigade had a callout to a vegitation fire on Yearslies Rd yesterday afternoon. It was very close to a small shed but luckily it wasn't damaged. We had the assistance of Brighton and Bagdad Brigades and were able to bring the fire under control fairly quickly given yesterday's windy conditions... Thanks Brighton and Bagdad for your assistance once again

09.01.2022 Thanks to Brendan, Aleks and the team at Bridgewater Brigade for an enjoyable and informative training session last night. A job well done. I will even ignore the implication that because of Broadmarsh,s lack of streets we wouldn't know how to use a street atlas and were probably going to get lost anyway.... It was good working with the crew from Claremont Brigade in the 7:1and will be happy to work with you on the fireground anytime

07.01.2022 Broadmarsh Brigade will be holding an information session at the fair on next Saturday Come and have a chat to brigade members and find out about the new 5 MINUTE BUSHFIRE PLAN and other related fire information There will be handouts and a chance to look over one of the trucks

07.01.2022 Thanks to Brigades from Gretna ,Bagdad and Bridgewater for helping out Broadmarsh Brigade at a vegitation fire on Bluff Rd on Saturday. The fire was patrolled yesterday by Broadmarsh and hotspots around the perimeter were extinguished. Broadmarsh were released from a fire on Church Rd to attend this fire.... Bridgewater were also at the Church Rd fire and offered to help us when the Church Rd fire was made safe.

06.01.2022 Training last night at Broadmarsh We were practicing our burn over procedure. This is a last resort for TFS crews and should be practiced regularly. ... We have personally protective clothing We have radiant heat shields We have protective blankets for all members of the crew We are in radio contact with Firecomm Firecomm will have our GPS position We have experience in dealing with bushfires We might survive We don't want to find out if all this is enough for us to survive. How will you cope in a similar situation with none of the above? When you are frightened you have your family in the car who are panicking and your mobile phone has no service. If you are going to leave before a bushfire LEAVE EARLY

03.01.2022 Yesterday at the Ellendale fire. Danita Calvert on her first vegitation fire. Well done Danita .... This fire is an escaped burn. It may still be green but burns can still escape. Please take care if you are burning off and register your burn with TFS Call 1800 000 099
