22.01.2022 Thanks to SES Brimbank Unit for getting some great photos at the response to the fire in Tullamarine. #WeWorkAsOne

20.01.2022 We love our volunteers - they're the ones up at 2am going on callouts, turning up to training week after week, and heading off on long deployments to other parts of the state. They can only do that with the support of their family and friends - partners who cope with those early morning pager noises, friends who are used to timetabling catchups around duty time, and family who are used to sudden absences when someone calls for assistance. This weekend we turn our attention ...to them - the ones supporting our volunteers. Thank you to you all. We're sure you know who you are. #YourFamilyOurFamily #VICSESfamily

20.01.2022 With the windy and rainy weather we're getting this week, it's a great time to check when to call us. Thanks to some wonderful VICSES Community members, we've been able to translate this useful diagram into quite a few languages - thank you!

19.01.2022 Broadmeadows volunteers were called out to assist SES Essendon Unit to help with a roof job this morning. Great to get our Safe Work At Heights System in use, and great to help Essendon out after they helped us last week. #WeWorkAsOne

14.01.2022 This year has been a bit more dynamic than most, and we couldn’t have done it without our fabulous volunteers. A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteer members on a terrific year, and happy International Volunteers Day!

13.01.2022 Well that was a late and windy one with three of our volunteer crews out until midnight. Big thanks to SES Brimbank Unit and SES Essendon Unit for helping out, as well as Fire Rescue Victoria for helping out with trees in downed powerlines. #WeWorkAsOne

09.01.2022 How to sandbag your home for flooding - with 25 sandbags or less! Victoria has many flood-prone communities with thousands of homes, properties and businesses at risk of flooding. Floods cause more damage per year in terms of dollars and lives lost than any other natural hazard in Australia. Flooding can happen at any time of the year. If you live in, work in or visit areas on low-lying land, close to creeks or rivers, or near major stormwater drains you may be at risk of f...looding. A well prepared community can reduce the impact of flooding by up to 80%. People who are prepared are more likely to respond to floods appropriately and safely. Victoria State Emergency Service recommends creating an emergency plan for your property, and finding out your flood risk - link right here: https://www.ses.vic.gov.au/web/www/get-ready/at-home See more

07.01.2022 Did you know our volunteers train on a purpose-built roof prop that allows them to practice a wide range of building damage scenarios? Over the last two weeks, VICSES volunteers have responded to many requests for assistance for building damage as the result of the storm event. Props such as this one help our volunteers get comfortable at heights before they get out on damaged roofs.

05.01.2022 Out and about and it starts raining heavily? Worried you'll come across flood waters on your daily lap of Coburg Lake? The best way to stay safe during a storm or flood is to retreat to high ground and stay indoors. If you are outdoors and that's not possible, you'll be best off to stay away from: - trees... - drains and culverts - creeks and canals See more

04.01.2022 A big thank you to The Meadows Dogs this week for donating $10,000 to our Unit. We're chuffed to receive this from the Meadows Community fund - and delighted that it'll go towards our new response vehicle. Thank you!

04.01.2022 SEVERE WEATHER The Bureau of Meteorology have issued a severe weather warning for strong and gusty damaging northerly winds for southern parts of the State (including greater Melbourne) increasing on Saturday before contracting east. The strong northerly winds will again bring a risk of falling trees and VICSES is conscious of the risk given the sunshine and second step restrictions enabling two households to meet outside across greater metropolitan Melbourne.... VICSES key messages: Three Victorian’s were tragically killed by falling trees in the strong winds on August 27 this year Strong northerly winds will again bring a risk of falling trees for large parts of the state on Saturday Peak gusts of around 100kmp/h are likely above 400m (including the Dandenong Ranges) with gusts increasing up to 110km p/h on Saturday morning Increased moisture in the soil from recent rain can compromise tree structures, whilst trees impacted by previous recent storm events may have dislodged branches or weakened structures which only elevates the risk Monitor conditions and remain vigilant to the risk on Saturday If you are outdoors and there are strong winds, avoid walking or sitting underneath trees. Monitor conditions and try to time your exercise or visit to the park outside of the strongest winds. The safest place to be during a storm is indoors Avoid unnecessary travel. Don’t be on the road if you don’t have to particularly in leafy areas. If you must be on the roads please drive to the conditions. For emergency assistance to floods or storms, phone the SES on 132 500.
