21.01.2022 We all have those days where you’re just not feeling it. Maybe a bit sore, tired & run down... yeah on those days you are much better off skipping training & getting some much needed rest! Rest days are crucial to our progress. We can’t heap stress onto our bodies day in day out & expect to maintain peak performance. We need to give our bodies adequate time to recover.... Remember to listen to your body. You know it best!!

21.01.2022 Lazy or weak glutes? Hip thrusts are great for glute development but let’s not forget the glutes are also responsible for hip abduction (taking your leg sideways away from your body). Try this exercise before your next glute workout for activation to make sure those glutes are firing ... The key for this exercise is to take your leg slightly behind the midline of your body and keep your toes pointing to the ground

21.01.2022 All smiles when you return to doing what you love! After having a few weeks off to recovery from hip surgery, I’m now back in the gym taking sessions. If you want to get on top of your fitness get in touch & organise a FREE no obligation consultation. ... You have nothing to lose!!!

21.01.2022 Sometimes we spend to much of our time worrying about the number on the scales or how much weight we are lifting. A healthy lifestyle is so much more than that!! You could have a great physique and good PBs on your lifts but if your relationship with food & your body is poor, are you really healthy??

19.01.2022 It was a frosty one today Middle of winter, cold & short days... it can be hard to motivate yourself!! If you find yourself in this boat you might need to ask yourself what your ‘WHY’ is!!... Why is it your goal Why do you wake up early Why do you train No matter if your goal is strength, hypertrophy (muscle gain) or fat loss, consistency will be the key. How you remain consistent will come down to the strength of your ‘why’... Once you unlock this, those cold days or early mornings won’t seem like such an effort!!

15.01.2022 We can be very quick to demonise foods. An easy example is carbs. They cop a bad rep. Some even labelling them as the reason you put on fat or can’t lose it. Firstly carbs are NOT the problem. And neither is any other so called bad foods. We need to move away from this notion and instead look at the diet in its entirety.... A chocolate bar in isolation isn’t bad for you. However, if you are consuming them on a regular basis it certainly wouldn’t be good for you. The key of course is moderation

15.01.2022 Here we have a sumo deadlift as opposed to a conventional deadlift. The difference being your grip is placed on the inside of your legs and you have a wider stance, which creates much more movement in your knees. It’s my go to variation of deadlifts. I find the greater movement in the knees for someone with long legs to be extremely helpful.... No matter which variation of the deadlift is your favourite, they are one of the key compound exercises in building all round strength

14.01.2022 When performing a back squat, the line the bar travels in as well as the position of our spine are two important factors of correct technique. Here we have Teagan performing the barbell back squat with great depth. As you can see on the first picture, we want the bar to travel in a straight line & finish over the middle of our feet. The second picture demonstrates the position that we want to keep our spine in. We should be able to draw a straight line that has three points o...f contact. These should be the bottom of our back, around our shoulder blades & the back of our head. Remember... master the movement, than proceed to add weight & seek progressive overload @ JGFit

12.01.2022 Expectation vs Reality Is foam rolling beneficial? Foam rolling can help relieve muscle tightness, soreness & inflammation and help increase your range of motion.... However if you neglect key pillars of recovery like sleep & nutrition, don’t expect foam rolling to work miracles for your recovery!!

12.01.2022 Gyms are opening back up and so am I It’s been a rough couple of months but now it’s time to get back on track!!! Contact me for all your fitness needs

12.01.2022 Client Progress Zara has been training with me for 8 weeks now and her progress has been excellent. One of her goals was to improve her strength & in particular her push ups.... When Zara had her first session with me she was performing push ups on her toes for 4 reps. She is now able to complete 3 sets of 10 reps with her push ups. I’m super proud of how far she has come in such a short time. Now onto bigger & better things now

11.01.2022 Reminder that chances are your body won’t be able to handle the volume you were completing prior to covid-19. Dropping the number of sets and slowly building your workload will be important when trying to avoid injury! Remember being sore isn’t the marker for a good session...

10.01.2022 You don’t have to track calories in order to lose fat or gain muscle. However it does help. There are a number of different tools that can be utilised by someone with body compositional goals & calorie tracking is one of them. It’s a educational tool. Knowing how many calories & the macronutrient breakdown of foods will help you in the long run.... Tracking doesn’t have to be forever. Once learnt it can be pulled out of the tool belt when necessary. Maybe you want to cut those few extra kg’s you put on over Christmas or holidays. Once you start to see the calorie content of the foods you are consuming, you’re educating yourself & there are benefits to that. I believe understanding & knowing how to track calories leads to making better choices and creating better habits. Education is king

09.01.2022 Competition just in time for Christmas Enter to win PT sessions with me plus a gift voucher to Soul Lashing & Beauty

08.01.2022 The key achieving long term success & adherence is enjoyment!! This is true with not just training but your diet as well If you don’t enjoy the foods you are eating can you see yourself sticking to it long term?... If I was doing a particular diet that eliminated foods I love, I can tell you now I wouldn’t last five minutes Find what works for you... it’s the best way forward

08.01.2022 There seems to be a stigma around weight training & in particular lifting heavy for females The facts are you will not get too bulky!! Genetic makeup & testosterone levels make it extremely difficult, bordering on impossible to do so... If you can point out a female that is bulky in most cases it is a result of using performance enhancing substances There are a plethora of benefits that come with weight training & one of these is increased bone density. This is particularly important as we know that females are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis. So in conclusion it’s not something that you have to worry about. What will happen however, is you will get stronger & more confident!! If you want to challenge yourself, get stronger, more confident & unlock your potential get in touch with me and begin your journey to being your best self

07.01.2022 It’s never too late to start!!! Message me to book your spot & achieve all your health and fitness goals

06.01.2022 Are you working your scapulas? Control of your scapula or scapulas (plural) is the key to efficient back exercises. Here we have a scapular control exercise that works on scapular depression, which is important in exercises such as pull ups and lat pull downs.... It’s a great exercise to include in your warm up or even to be used as a stepping stone for those with a goal of doing an unassisted pull up!!

05.01.2022 The basics are the basics for a reason! It’s because they work. Mastering your technique Consistency with good habits Understanding & hitting calorie/protein targets... Consistency Quality sleep every night Have clear and achievable goals Consistency Drink enough water CONSISTENCY There’s no need to worry about things like which supplements you should be taking or what overly complicated exercises you should be including in your routine. These come later!! (If needed at all) Build the foundations, master the basics and you’ll be surprised at what you can accomplish without worrying about the icing on the cake

03.01.2022 Goal setting If you have goals of body compositional change, be it muscle growth or fat loss, think about this. Once you’ve built the muscle, lost the fat or achieved your desired physique, then what?? ... You might then find yourself in a position where you struggle for motivation and find it hard to be consistent. I’m an advocate for performance based goals. A tangible target to strive for that can be reset once achieved. I’d encourage these goals be the focus and your compositional goals be secondary. Seek to advance exercises, seek progressive overload, seek getting stronger!!! Chase performance, be consistent, fall in love with the process & let compositional change be the by product of that

03.01.2022 This isn’t a home workout post, we’ve got enough of those already!! About 3 weeks now since the forced closure of gyms and if your like me you’ve struggle to find the motivation to be consistent with home workouts! I realised the issue doesn’t revolve around exercises, equipment or programs but with ROUTINE..... We are creatures of habit and most of us have just had our daily routines flipped on its head. Don’t spend your time plugged in searching instagram or YouTube looking for the perfect home workout, it doesn’t exist... Instead pick some exercises or a form of exercise you LIKE, create a routine and form good habits. Even making sure you get outside each day to move your body and get some sun will do wonders during this time!! Ps if you come out the other side of this with a little extra weight or lost a bit of fitness no one will judge you!!! It’s a BLOODY GLOBAL PANDEMIC.... just do the best you can..

01.01.2022 With the closure of gyms I’m offering outdoor training sessions. Under the government’s guidelines these sessions will have a capped number of participants. Get a small group of friends together and message me to get your spot In times like these we can’t forget about our health & wellbeing

01.01.2022 Something I think we need to take a step back & really think about! Is following this person helping or hurting my mindset & how I feel about myself! The easiest examples are celebrities, fitness models & influencers... Too often I think we fall into the trap of viewing these people as motivation or #goals But in fact seeing amazing physiques or even expensive cars & houses in our feed each day can cause us to feel inadequate! You can open Instagram & straight away see someone with a six pack. These people are in the top 5% of physiques. Ask yourself this, how many people do you actually know that look like that? I’m not saying don’t follow any of these people but work on being self aware of how the things in our feed affect us

01.01.2022 Bit of a set back the past couple months! Officially joined the old man club Hip surgery at 25 is something that definitely rocked me a bit to start with.... It took me a few days to get my head around the news, but in the end you gotta do what you gotta do. I’m unsure what the road ahead looks like, but I’m determined come back stronger. Appreciate all the support from my family, friends and my awesome clients. A setback is a set up for a comeback
