24.01.2022 Robynon front of the horse with her parents Max and Holly Foulds at Broughton Vale station. Looks like a nice day for a ride.

21.01.2022 This is a Jewish business that was on the corner of Chapple and Zebina. It was in the Catalogue and has no mention of their shop in Gypsum Street so it has to be in the fifties. Woolworths purchased both shops in the early sixties.

21.01.2022 Apologies folks. The Society website is having a small hissy fit, in terms of how it's presenting menus. Am working on a fix.... Hang in, Jan, Publicity Officer

20.01.2022 Angus Mc Cullum (Max) Foulds the licensee of the Grand Hotel is second from right in this group. If you can know of another person or why this photo was taken let me know.

20.01.2022 This Universal Home Catalogue has no date. Do you recognize it and if you do tell me. I believe it is the early fifties

16.01.2022 Shearing at Broughton Vale Statio. Max Foulds holding the fleece with his Grandfather on the right.

14.01.2022 UPDATE 22 December 2020 It's been a while since we offered a general news post, since pandemic issues have settled down in NSW, and all our museums re-opened. We do have some bits of news, though.... First, our Coordinator of the Synagogue of the Outback Museum, Margaret Price, is away, possibly until end of January 2021. The SOTOM Museum is therefore only open on a Wednesday. You can, though, possibly arrange a visit to the Synagogue Museum by appointment still, by ringing the Society phone no., 08 8088 7448. The Silverton School Educational Museum is closed until further notice. The Silverton Gaol Museum continues to be open ALL days except Christmas Day. The Mosque Museum continues to be open, but by appointment only. Contact Caretaker Bobby Shamroze: Telephone 08 8088 3187 Mobile 0400 184 260 Email [email protected] For further information on the Museum Coordinators, the Museums, and all contact details, please go to our website: brokenhillhistoricalsociety.com Enjoy your holidays, and from the Society, stay well, stay safe.

13.01.2022 This photo is of the Silverton Methodist Sunday School about 1911. There are kids in the Gum tree on the left and many adults and I believe one of them was Envoy Crocker

10.01.2022 West Darling Race Day committee. Max Foulds with the glasses on in the back row. I think this is 1933 and have no other names. Do you know any of these people? The Foulds had Broughton Vale Station which they sold in 1945 and various sons held licenses at many Hotels. Southern Cross 1918 where Max was Patron of their Cricket and Football teams. Then the Grand1934 - 1937 leaving Broken Hill to take over the new Mayfair Hotel which is said to be centrally situated in Kings Cross. He also supported the West Darling race meetings.

09.01.2022 Walter Sully's merchant store occupied the site where the Silver City Art Gallery stands. It moved in from Silverton and was at a different place but stood proud on that site from 1887. It was an amazing store selling dynamite, fencing wire, flour, sago, rope, and anything else a person needed to live in town or to explore the area.

08.01.2022 This photo shows children at a first aid class, and as usual have no names or date or school. But a lovely photo.

06.01.2022 TWO Museums Now Re-opening. As of today, the Synagogue Museum is re-opening to its normal hours on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday. This week beginning 1st February 2021, the Silverton School Educational Museum will re-open, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, with further regular days next week and following weeks to be advised. Jan (Publicity)

06.01.2022 This photo was taken in 1888 of Burke Street in Silverton, not muchlonger after this people were moving to Broken Hill

03.01.2022 This is a monumental statement for the staff of Broken Hill businesses, closed on a Wednesday afternoon to open on a Saturday morning. It was no good for the Jewish businesses who needed to close on a Saturday morning and trade all day on a Wednesday. It was happening into the sixties maybe much later.

03.01.2022 Story of Broken Hill as written in the Universal Catalogue, no year when this was written, do you know.
