24.01.2022 Kayla with cans.......

24.01.2022 Needed some time out from the crazy, cafe time!

24.01.2022 So todays efforts, after falling asleep on the couch, included buttoning up the rear brake, which i used one of the old GSXR factory brake lines for, looking at where i will mount the battery box, the rear brake reservoir and sorting the headlight bracket. The battery box is pretty simple i think, what i want to do is mount it under the seat, where there is currently a regulator rectifier (part of the charging system), so that will end up hidden under the tank, but because o...f the new rear mudguard i want to build the battery will need to be mounted lying flat, so untill i make said mudguard the battery box is on hold, as is mounting the rear brake reservoir because i will mount that off the battery box. The headlight mounting bracket, on the other hand is a different story! I fitted up the old bracket, which was pretty heavily modified to fit the cafe style headlight used on the bike, which was mounted off centre (which i found really quite annoying!!!), i looked at repairing this bracket, hit with a hammer a couple of times to see if i could knock it back into the shape i needed, and the welds broke on it (which had literally just been bogged up {body filler} to look good), so i stepped back, had a good look at the headlight and thought about what i wanted to achieve, and proceded to make a new headlight bracket! I cut some flat steel out of some scrap i had, set out the centre line and worked my way out from there drilling the main mounting holes, setting the centre bends so it matched the triple clamps and then doing the final bends to wrap around the headlight. Unfortunately i ran out of time to finish the bracket as i had to cook dinner, but you can see the headlight sitting on the bracket in the approximate final location, so fingers crossed i dont fall asleep on the couch tomorrow and i get back out to finish some more stuff. That will do i think Cheers BCR

22.01.2022 So here i have some "random photos" of the Honda CBX 550 F2, work has progressed from the complete rebuild of the fuel tank (which is now complete and in primer grey), which included removing an inch of filler from one side and reshaping the whole thing by hand before welding the two halves back together, onto un upper engine inspection, which included removal of the "pots" to inspect the bores, pistons and rings.

22.01.2022 Kayla wirhout cans..... This is closer to how she will sound, but shes a bit too noisy at the moment!

14.01.2022 Hello my lovelies! Its been 3 months since ive posted anything (as you know) mostly due to being busy with family things, but also because i lost my mojo! I was having trouble with my final visualisation of this beast and couldnt figure out how to make some parts fit, but thats all fixed now and i have my head in gear. So progress, thats the idea anyway!... Il start with the start stop switch, this one smacked me around a bit trying to get it right and looking good, i think i got there in the end, you be the judge! Next i decided on the cowl design i wanted, not cafe and not flat tracker but a mix of both. First up is my mould, the ice cream containers really do come in handy!! So far ive only gotten one layer of glass down, il need two more before its strong enough for use, then its time to shape and finish the cowl off, including mounting the tail light to the cowl. Once this is done its time to move on to the wiring which will be fun...... So thats about it for now, im hoping il be able to get some more done this weekend so i may have another progress report next week. As always friends, ride safe.and have fun! Cheers BCR

10.01.2022 Welcome to Burn City Racers. This is my side project/hobbie/way of staying sane. My aim is to save older bikes from the true death by ressurecting them and turning them into fun rideable pieces of moving art. Please feel free to share and comment on my current work in progress, a 1982 Honda CBX 550 F2, which was partially turned into a cafe racer by the previous owner. Some pics of the before:

09.01.2022 So progress is slow, being that this is something i can only do on weekends due to work and family commitments, but progress is progress! Here you can see more general shots, the placememt of the oil pressure guage, and the rearsets or footpegs if you will. The oil pressure guage is something i decided to do because i didnt have the original dash and so couldnt use the "idiot" light, the light that highlights the red "oil" symbol to say there is no oil pressure, i have since ...bought a dash but will keep the guage. As for the footpegs, they are originally off a 2005 Suzuki GSXR 1000, my daily ride which i put adjustable rearsets on so had these kicking around in the garage, i liked what they looked like when i bolted them up for gits and shiggles, so i slightly modded the frame to make them fit. I had to make the gear shifter linkage, using parts from the suzuki and some random honda 250 bits that i got from Victorian Motorcycle Wreckers in Heidelberg. I got a GSXR rear brake master cylinder off ebay, mainly because they are cheap, and also because i knew it would fit on the rearsets, had to tweak it to fit with the frame though, but 99.99% of people would never know the difference, which is what i love about doing this, taking things - random things off other bikes, and making them look almost factory fitted. Anyway, tbats enough for this update, il post again tonight or tomorrow with more. Cheers BCR

06.01.2022 Some BurnCityRacers customization goin on, stay tuned for the finished product!!!

06.01.2022 Hi all, i would like to introduce Kayla, she is the newest member of thw BurnCity family. Kayla will be getting a full makeover BurnCity style, but unfortunately i wont be able to post progress pics as she will be a suprise construct built for a birthday present, i just hope she will be ready before the next birthday of the lucky owner! I will anounce however her maiden foray into the Melbourne Night so stay tuned 'cos there may be a snippett or two 'leaked' as things progres...s...... Thanks to each and every one of you, its for you i work so hard. Keep the shiny side up and the wheels on the road I love u all Al

05.01.2022 Finished product from yesterday, another happy customer with a completely one off tail tidy. Tune in next week for his tank protector and possibly rearset installation

04.01.2022 Looky looky looky, check out mofos! CALENDARS ARE IN!!!!! YEAH BABY!!!! Big thanks to everyone that put these together they look AWESOME!!!!

03.01.2022 An eventful day, got the honda running again, only to find out that the piston rings i measured as being ok, are not! Sooo bloody annoying...... On a brighter note, once i figured out the wiring mess that the previous owner left me with she fired and ran like a champ, she just puffed smoke like a 60 year old hooker! Anyway il continue with the build and when i pull her down for paint il do the top end with new pistons and rings, a rebore and a full head rebuild.... Beside the smoke puffing, she has oil pressure, and sounds great with no muffler. She does need 1 carb rebuilt so il do all four, and then she will be an absolute weapon!!! Cheers BCR
