25.01.2022 Where do we start? Farewell or See you later to our Head Teacher Welfare and Agriculture teacher Miss Dianne Toynton. Di has been a vital member of the Broken Hill High School Community for 13 years. She will be leaving our school in order to start a wonderful journey in Albury. The students and staff refer to her as Legend but that is only because she tells them to call her that. Di’s wonderful, vibrant and fierce personality allows all her students to feel valued and h...ave a ball in the classroom. Through her passion for Agriculture she has inspired many students to pursue a career in the Agriculture Industry and they like myself hope to be just like Miss Toynton when they grow up! Miss Toynton has also had a significant impact on student and staff wellbeing through her role as Head Teacher Welfare. She will be greatly missed by students and staff and our loss is Albury High Schools gain. Thank you for everything you have done Miss Toynton! See more

24.01.2022 SPORT for TERM 4 has changed Due to COVID restrictions lifting, we are now able to provide our students with Netball, Tennis, Picton Oval & YMCA sport on a weekly rotation for Years 7 to 10. We have arranged buses to transport the students to all 4 venues each week at no cost and will walk back to school to by 3.28pm ... Sport is a mandatory subject as per DET Policy (see below) and all Years 7 to 10 students must attend sport unless you have an exemption or a medical certificate. Please note that any student signing out on Wednesdays from 1pm onward will be marked as unjustified leave unless written confirmation of a booked medical appointment has been received. No student will be signed out unless we receive a note or phone call from Parents/Carers only, this does not include emergency contacts as it’s not an emergency to miss sport. NSW Department of Education Sport and Physical Activity policy requires mandatory weekly participation in sport and physical activity for schools and their students. Students in Years K-10 participate in a minimum of 150 minutes of planned moderate activity with some vigorous physical activity across the school week. This time includes planned weekly sport https://policies.education.nsw.gov.au//sport-and-physical-

18.01.2022 This week’s staff member of the week is Miss Antoinette Deacon Antoinette has worked tirelessly to establish an Aboriginal girls group that encompasses the use of art and community connection to engage and improve Aboriginal girls attendance, literacy and link to culture. Antoinette has off her own back developed the program and gained support to run it through consultation with Maari Maa. The program involves communication and work with Maari Maa, Aboriginal education staff and families. The program runs each Thursday and has had to be modified during COVID times, this has required organising support personnel to visit the school to conduct the program and ensure it continues. Congratulations Antoinette

04.01.2022 Update to all Parents.Caregivers Additional safety measures for schools have been put in place to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission in schools for the remainder of Term 3. The following principles underpin these measures:... Only providers that are essential to the delivery of curriculum can continue to provide services and programs until further notice (must sign a covid visitor form every visit and provide their covid safety plan) Parents/carers and other non-essential visitors are not allowed on the school site, this includes the Front Office. Please continue to call or email with any enquries or assistance we can provide you, this includes signing your child in/out instead of coming into the office. Where possible, students will stay within their relevant cohort group (i.e. class, year group, or stage) for all learning activities within their school in order to limit close contacts to only the cohort relevant to the student eg sport. Continue to keep you child home if they are unwell and if they display any flu like symptoms, get them tested and keep them home until a negative result has been received. Broken Hill High School will be following the updated guidelines provided by NSW Education Department in consultation with NSW Health. This means your child will need to obtain a negative COVID-19 test result and provide it to the school, before being permitted to return to school if sent home with flu like symptoms. If your child has been for a COVID-19 test, please let us know via sms message or phone call and provide the test result via email to [email protected] prior to them returning to school. Mr R Mackay

04.01.2022 Macquarie Roadshow Over the past few days, Broken Hill High School students have had the wonderful opportunity to be part of the Macquarie University Roadshow. Students were afforded the fantastic opportunity to meet with university staff and discuss everything Macquarie University has to offer rural students. Had the amazing privilege of meeting and displaying their impressive netball skills against Giants and Australian Netballer, Keira Austin. Not mention meeting the wonderfully talented and sportswoman Elysia O’Neill. All finishing with a fun family breakfast. All students involved should be commended on their outstanding support of this wonderful initiative! They represented their school with such pride!
03.01.2022 Broken Hill High School has brought in a new initiative of rewarding staff members within the school who have gone above and beyond their expected duties. This week, SARAH GILLESPIE, is the winner of the Staff Member award. Sarah has the role of Sport Organiser and has had an extremely difficult time this year to ensure that Sport could run as smoothly as possible. If the COVID-19 restrictions of group sizes, inability to attend regular sporting venues and further restrictions of sole year group sport groups were not enough, she has then also had to battle with two dust storms and rain...which all seemed to fall conveniently on a Wednesday. SARAH GILLESPE is a very worthy recipient of this award. Congratulations Sarah!!
