20.01.2022 Today, information has been shared online about a video of a suicide circulating social media platforms. The Office of the eSafety Commissioner has contacted social media companies about the reports and will continue working with them to monitor the situation. eSafety is encouraging people who encounter this content to report it to the social media platform they’ve seen it on, or to eSafety at www.esafety.gov.au/report/illegal-harmful-content. eSafety advice is to exercise d...iscretion in any communication about this incident and encourage others to do the same. In particular, please avoid raising the issue with students who may not have heard or been exposed to it. Drawing students’ attention to the issue may cause unnecessary worry or distress and increase exposure. If you are working with schools, we advise that they monitor those students who are more vulnerable and at-risk, and check-in with them about their interactions on and offline. If a young person is presenting with signs of distress, schools should follow their own procedures for managing and supporting students at risk. If a life is in danger call Triple Zero (000) right now. Please encourage anyone who may be at risk or experiencing emotional distress, including worried family and friends, to contact one of the following services: Kids Helpline. 1800 55 1800. Phone support is there all day, every day. Online support is open from 8am-midnight every day (AEST). Suicide Callback Service. 1300 659 467. 12.01.2022 Farewell Heather Martin. Yesterday we honoured Heather Martin who has worked at Malanda SHS for almost 41 years. Heather has worked in the school office for all of this time. She has seen 3 generations of families come through the school and knows just about everyone in Malanda and who belongs to who. Heather was honoured with a morning tea with many past staff coming along to say thank you and farewell. She is pictured with Mr Toshach - who is only one of the 8 Principa...ls she has guided and helped over the 41 years. Thank you Heather for your service to the young people of Malanda, and their parents and families. Thank you from the Department of Education and for 41 years as a dedicated, loyal and hard working public servant. Please leave messages to Heather. She will love reading them as she sits back with a book, feet up and a cat on her lap. So well deserved. See more
