16.01.2022 Matthew Bourne’s ‘gorgeous take on the film classic’ ( The Times) will be screened at the Brolga for the first time. Winner of two Olivier Awards, The Red Shoes is an ‘utterly enthralling’ ( Daily Express) tale of obsession, possession and one girl's dream to be the greatest dancer in the world. Victoria Page lives to dance but her ambitions become a battleground between the two men who inspire her passion. Matthew Bourne’s magical adaptation of the classic Powell an...d Pressburger film is set to the achingly romantic music of golden-age Hollywood composer Bernard Herrmann, the production is orchestrated by Terry Davies, with stunning designs by Lez Brotherston, lighting by Paule Constable, sound by Paul Groothuis and projection design by Duncan McLean. Filmed live at Sadler’s Wells in London especially for cinemas, Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoes stars Ashley Shaw as Victoria Page, Adam Cooper as Boris Lermontov and Dominic North as Julian Craster. This ‘cinematic masterpiece re-Bourne on stage’ ( Evening Standard) will dazzle your senses and break your heart. Showing Monday 5 October at 1pm and Thursday 15 October at 7pm. Tickets online or at the door: bit.ly/red-shoes-mb20

13.01.2022 Hanif Kureishi’s iconic and Oscar-nominated screenplay My Beautiful Laundrette was brought to the stage at the CURVE theatre, Leicester, in 2019. Set in London during the Thatcher years, My Beautiful Laundrette tells the story of young British Pakistani, Omar, who transforms his Uncle’s run-down laundrette into a thriving business. After being confronted by a fascist gang, Omar recognises school friend Johnny and uses their history to diffuse the situation. As they renovate ...the laundrette together, love blossoms between them. This culture clash comedy is a subversive work of social realism, exploring cultural conflict, gender equality, class and generational strife, all presented against a funky backdrop of 80's music and culture. Whilst The Curve remains closed this archive recording of the final dress rehearsal is available to view online, along with the show program, cast discussion and audio descriptive notes, at www.curveonline.co.uk//watch-our-archive-recording-of-han/ Please be aware My Beautiful Laundrette is suitable for ages 15+ and contains strong language and adult themes including violence and racism.
