24.01.2022 As part of our learning about the jungle, the children participated in an outdoor physical activity. The children had to walk through the obstacle course that resembled the jungle. They firstly had to slide down the slide and land in leaves, walk through the vines and attempt not to touch them, walk along the bridge, balance along the balance beam and lastly jump into a bucket of mud! The children engaged their gross motor skills as they were seen climbing, running, walking, leaping, balancing, crawling and jumping. The children loved this activity and we will continue to use it during free play outside.

23.01.2022 The Kangaroo and Joeys joined together to celebrate the Queens birthday, by sharing some delicious scones, sandwiches and bread and butter pudding. The children enjoyed being together as they made meaningful conversations.

19.01.2022 Worms & Sustainability Following on from our recent interest in bugs, we learnt all about worms outside by exploring the compost. The children enjoyed holding worms in their hands and observing them. Before going outside, the children also created and decorated their own worms with paper and eyes. The Kangaroos really enjoyed having group time outside as it really allowed them to apply their learning through a ... hands-on experience. A few days later, the children fed the worms scraps from morning tea! By exploring the garden and their environment, the children become more connected with their world and surroundings, thus developing a strong sense of well being. Furthermore, their hands on experience allowed them to be more vocal during group time, further building their confidence! Plus - a great sustainability project!

18.01.2022 Excursion time!! Over the last week, we have been exploring restaurants and cafes, and each child in the Kangaroos room visited the Favoloso Cafe. Before we ordered, we asked the Kangaroos, "what do we do when we go to a cafe?" "we use manners", "we walk nicely and don't run "we say please and thank you" they answered. When the waiter brought us our food and drinks, the Kangaroos said a big thank you and enjoyed their banana bread and babycinos. ... By exploring the topic of restaurants and cafes in a hands-on manner, the children broaden their understanding of the world in which they live, thus they become connected with and contribute to their world. Additionally, when walking to the cafe, the children demonstrated spatial awareness and oriented themselves, and they moved around and through their environment confidently and safely. By doing this, the children develop a strong sense of well being. We would also like to say a big thank you to Marianela for coming along and helping us on the excursion and buying us all delicious banana bread and also Thomas's mother Miss Liz. Thank you Marianela and Liz!

15.01.2022 The Kangaroo children went on an excursion to the park to have fun completing an obstacle course and to look for bugs. They discussed what might live in the park. We had some great answers, Tobias said "flowers", William said "dogs" and Teo said, "worms". The children practised their gross motor skills on the obstacle course and had a fun time doing it! After the obstacle course, we went looking for bugs using a minibeast hunt checklist. The Kangaroos ticked off the bugs as ...they were found. Teo said, "I saw a spider." Adam said, "I found a lime tree." Sophia N said, "I saw some ants." and Teddy said, "I saw a cockroach." The Kangaroos expressed great wonder and interest in their environment. By being involved and interactive with their environment, the children gain a sense of respect for their environment. 04.01.2022 Say hello to our new pet fish, CUPBOARD! (or Cubby for short :) To extend on the childrens interest of sea life, the Joeys room has a new pet fish. The children watched the gold fish come into its new home. As they listened to instructions on how to look after the fish, they came up with some names. All the names were put in a hat and Oliver picked a name out for us. The Joey room pet fish name is... CUPBOARD! An original name picked by Odette and she was so excited! Welcome to the Joeys room, Cubpoard :)

04.01.2022 Our children at Bronte Kids Preschool, along with millions of children around Australia and New Zealand, simultaneously listened to a reading of Whitney and Britney: Chicken Divas by Lucy Gifford for National Simultaneous Storytime 2020. 02.01.2022 Cooper the Beaglier came to visit! He got involved in the childrens' group time while also explored the outdoor area with them. The children took turns walking him around the garden. They were aware of his needs and eager to help, making sure he had water. The children found a bowl and poured some water for him. They thought he might be cold and want a rest as he lay down on the mat and they wrapped the parachute over him. They practiced tricks with him like speak, "sit", "paw", "down" and "up". He was too excited to do his rollover trick so we might try that another time :)

02.01.2022 This week is NAIDOC week. It is all about celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is also a great opportunity to support our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. The theme for this year is "Voice, Treaty, Truth". The children sing Acknowledgement of Country every day and show our respects for the Gadigal people, past, present and future. Singing the acknowledgement of Country enables the children to show respect to Indigenous cultures and belong to a group of love and respect for diversity.
