21.01.2022 I can’t believe it’s been a year since I created this piece! Undoubtedly one of the most popular from my DUALITY series. This group of works investigated the relationship between humans and horses throughout history and the parallels I uncovered to my own internal monologue. The Hurdler / Chasing Reality references the sport aspect of the human/horse relationship and the constant pressure to be ahead of the game, chase opportunities and stay relevant in order to succeed. ... 05.01.2022 Lucky. I created Lucky as part of my Duality exhibition in 2019 and he is probably one of my favourite pieces to date. When I was working through the concept for the exhibition I knew I needed a rocking horse and he had to be gold. Lucky epitomises everything that I wanted to discuss through Duality, the innocence, freedom, restraint, power, human control and the influence of money in the human/horse relationship. I found Lucky in a garage sale and he was in pretty bad shape.... Once I removed the saddle he fell apart into 4 pieces. With some expert help I was able to rebuild him but I was sure not to remove all of the dents and scratches that had been part of his life. I even used hair from a childhood pony to recreate his tail. (The pony, Mack, still has plenty of tail left Lucky was originally created in 1968 and restored over 50 years later. He has a new home now and I still see him sitting in the window. I hope he brings just as much joy to them as he did me in bringing him to life. 02.01.2022 The oil painting, Lara Tilbrook, Jeannie's Mother tells the narrative of environmental activist, goldsmith and artist, Lara Tilbrook. Ten years ago Lara returned from a prestigious jewellery position in London, purchased 400 acres on Kangaroo Island and began revegetating the pristine bushland, encouraging the return of native flora and fauna. Over Christmas 2019 her land was badly burnt by out of control bushfires on the island which decimated much of the area. ... Her hope though is still strong to empower her daughter Jeannie to live harmoniously with, and to continue to fight for, the environment and native wildlife she loves.
