25.01.2022 Well, it’s been a crazy couple of months with Covid, home schooling, lockdown etc. But... We’re getting the ball rolling again with some repairs and some new builds coming up. We currently have a Vox AC30, and a big old early 70’s Eminar on the bench for some TLC, and will be hitting the woodwork shop in a couple of weeks to build some cabinets. Stay tuned.
25.01.2022 Interesting repair... A client brought in this custom build/conversion. An old AWA PA amp, converted into a Marshall Super Bass 100W style circuit, currently running KT66’s. Client reported a sudden flash on power up, and then horrible hum, before shutting it down. Turns out one of the KT66’s heaters shorted and took a couple of resistors with it, in quite spectacular fashion. I’ve done some mods on component values to make it suitable for EL34’s and 6CA7’s and have a quad of... 22.01.2022 Something a bit different today. Quick emergency repair on an MCI 8 track tape machine with one track not receiving input. A dry solder joint was the culprit.
09.01.2022 Now that school is back, and we’re not busy with home schooling, there is a backlog of repairs and builds in the workshop. Today’s project is an old 70’s Eminar 100 watt guitar head. We’ve rebuilt the power supply section, re-tubed with Electro-Harmonix tubes, and undone some previous mods to restore the preamp section to stock. We’ve also resurrected the tremolo.
