25.01.2022 Hi guys! Lately we have had a few fledglings brought into the clinic. Here is a guide on what to do if you find a baby bird https://broomevet.com/what-to-do-when-you-find-a-fledgling/

24.01.2022 Happy Saturday everyone!! This morning in the clinic we had lots of energy bouncing around the room. What better way to start the weekend than with some puppy love Little tucker came in for some more biccys and a new teddy before spending her Saturday morning at the beach! ... And Wallace the adorable Dalmatian came in for his vaccinations. At only 10 weeks old he is looking to be a big boy when he’s older

24.01.2022 Look who came in for a recheck We have had a lot of you asking how he went after his surgery so we thought we would share an update This little guy had his femur pinned a few weeks back and has since been recovering very well. He is flying to Perth today for rehab with the Raptor specialists.... He has been using his leg to hold his food and seems to be on the road to a great recovery. We wish him the best of luck for the rest of his journey *if you missed his story you can scroll down on our Facebook page or view his story on our website! 23.01.2022 The clinic will be closed from Saturday the 25th - Monday the 27th April 2020. A vet will be on call during the ANZAC break for any emergencies. They will be contactable on 9192 1319. ~ Lest We Forget ~

23.01.2022 1 More Day Until Christmas everyone! We would like to share some information to help keep our fur babies safe this Christmas Christmas food is very yummy, however can be very fatal to our pets health. These festive foods include:... Chocolate - Chocolate contains a stimulant called theobromine (a bit like caffeine) that is poisonous to dogs. Bones - Dogs may choke on the bones, or sustain injury as the splinters can become lodged in or puncture your dogs digestive tract. Avoid giving cooked bones (which splinter easily) or giving bones that are small enough to get stuck in their bowels. Milk - milk-based products can cause diarrhoea or other digestive upset. Corn on the cob - Corn does not digest well in a dogs stomach. If your dog swallows large chunks of the cob, or even whole, it can cause an intestinal blockage due to its size and shape. Yeast Dough - Ingestion of yeast dough can cause gas to accumulate in your dogs digestive system as a result of the dough rising. Not only can this be painful but if may also cause the stomach or intestines to become obstructed (blocked) or distended. Macadamia Nuts - Within 12 hours of ingestion macadamia nuts can cause dogs to experience weakness, depression, tremors, vomiting and hyperthermia Grapes & Raisins - These fruits can cause kidney failure. Onions, Garlic, Chives - These vegetables and herbs can cause stomach and gut irritation and could lead to red blood cell damage. Other treats not to feed your dog include chicken/turkey/ham skin, fatty meats and off cuts- the fattiness can lead to pancreatitis. Anything containing sugar such as Christmas pudding, meat pies, fruit cake and cookies. Nothing containing alcohol. Have a safe and wonderful Christmas everyone!

21.01.2022 Hi my name is Molly! My mum is a Nurse here at the Broome Vets. I have a sore eye that she is helping me fix so at the moment I get to hang out with everyone at the clinic. Id like to give my Aunty in South Africa a shoutout & let her know I love and miss her very much! ... I hope everyone has a lovely weekend. Love Molly

20.01.2022 This is Narelle the turtle! She got her name from our vet nurse Narelle who found the turtle buoyant at the waters surface when she was out fishing. She contacted Deb and Chris from Native Animal Rescue Broome who have taken her into their care. She is a sick little turtle with anemia, however in the best hands possible she is slowly on her way to recovery. * Dr Farand Thompson drawing blood from Narelles dorsal cervical sinus.

19.01.2022 Here we have it guys After a long wait Dave Morrells book 'Johnny James and Other Verses' has arrived at the clinic and is ready for purchase for $70. Dave Morrell grew up on cattle stations in the Kimberley before becoming Broome’s first vet. The Kimberley and its wild frontier is as much part of Dave as he is of it. This collection of his bush poetry and memoirs portrays a raw and untold history of his home. ... Often with humour and sometimes full of emotion, Dave combines his own recollections of life in the outback with stories of white colonisation, Aboriginal displacement, and tight-knit community bonds. Through poetry and prose, Dave shines light on the immeasurable good of this remote community, as well as the darkness that lurks, often unspoken, on the edges of its history. It is the perfect memento for those who love the normally untold histories of Australia’s remote regions. These are stories of the real Kimberley, by the Broome vet Dave Morrell. You can also use the link below to listen to Dave's BUSH POETRY - Renowned vet Dave Morrell spins a few poems our way. https://podcasts.google.com//MzBiYTJlZGYtZjUwZC00NDFlLWJjN

14.01.2022 Boa is a little 10 month old Weiro who woke up with acute soft tissue swelling, redness and irritation to his little eye. Boa was suffering from a condition called Panophthalmitis. Panophthalmitis is the inflammation of all coats of the eye including intraocular structures. It can be caused by infection. The plan for Boa is to treat the eye aggressively with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and eye ointments. Young sienna, Boas owner, worked very hard to save his eye. She ...even set her alarm every hour in the night to ensure his treatment was administered as often as possible in order for his eye to be saved. What great work she did! Now Boa can return to sitting on the dashboard of the car waiting for her to finish school again. His eye has recovered and he is a happy little Weiro once again. Great work Dr. Amy and Boas wonderful and very attentive owners.

14.01.2022 PET OF THE MONTH This month we have a very special 19 year old Devon Rex called Ripley! Ripley has been a patient of ours for many years and is very special to us (along with his brothers and sisters). Ripley has tackled renal failure and losing an eyeball like a superstar. He is unstoppable! Unfortunately, this month constipation has gotten the better of Ripley. His amazing family who just adore him have been excellent in getting him the treatment he has needed. He is st...ill on a mission to poo regularly so we need everyone to cross their fingers for Ripley! Although the situation is unideal for Ripley, we are definitely not complaining about his visits to see us. We just LOVE him

11.01.2022 PET OF THE MONTH We have the bravest little border collie called Cisco who has taken the well deserved place of pet of the month. Cisco was referred to our clinic from his home town in Kununarra to see Dr Scott Davis. He presented with a right distal femur fracture, with a fragment from the femur penetrating his skin. We took some radio-graphs of Ciscos femur and obtained suitable implants to plate his fracture. Without further or do Cisco received antibiotics, IV flu...ids, pain relief and a lot of sneaky cuddles from the nurses, then he was off into surgery! With the help of Dr Daviss specialized equipment Ciscos femur was platted and one more radio-graph of Ciscos new and improved leg was taken to ensure the job was well done. It has been over a month now and we are pleased to hear that Ciscos recovery is going really well. A big shout out to Ciscos amazing owners for going to great lengths to get their pup the treatment he needed. We wish him the best of luck with the rest of his recovery

02.01.2022 Here we are again! Another month has flown by. This month we are happy to show you all a very special little man named Rusty. Rusty is a 15 year old terrier who was hit by a car. He came to us with de-gloving injuries on his front and hind legs, with his distal limb showing periosteal exposure. Radiographs of Rusty also revealed a distal tibial chip fracture. A de-gloving injury is a soft tissue injury where extensive amounts of the skin and subcutaneous tissues detach from ...the underlying fascia and muscles. With great merit to Rusty’s owners, he is brought into the clinic every second day for cleaning of his wounds and re-bandaging of two limbs. After a de-gloving injury it is common for the tissue to die which is what we feared for Rusty. As it turns out every bandage change reveals more and more granulation tissue which is amazing! His wounds are looking healthy and his tibial fracture is slowly but steadily healing. It makes our day when Rusty comes into the clinic because of his sweet nature and patience with the nurses as they shower him in cuddles. We look forward to all his future visits and hope he likes his bandage inspired by the Disney movie UP!
