19.01.2022 12 months to the day the day the sun didn’t rise on the Far South Coast. 12 months ago we all watched as our coastal community burned, houses were lost and lives were impacted in ways we couldn’t imagine. Today will be a hard day for many of us that were impacted by the Black Summer bushfires as we reflect on the year that’s been and the struggles the community still face. You are all in our thoughts and we are sending our love today and everyday. ... Emotions are still raw, the fear and devastation are still evident, people continue to rebuild and lives will forever be impacted. This disaster has shown how strong and beautiful our coastal community is. We are so thankful that we were able to help in a small way that day and in the coming weeks and months. To be there for our community and stand with them in everyone’s time of need. We are proud to be apart of the Far South Coast Branch, with many clubs and members standing up to help in anyway they could. We are thankful for the help, love and compassion shown by clubs within the organisation outside our branch. Those who rallied behind us so we were never alone. We are thankful for the amazing courage shown by our family in other arms of emergency services, the firies, police, ambos, defence force, the water bombing aircraft pilots, who helped protect us for months. You are all heroes and thank you will never be enough. 2020 has demonstrated the perseverance, strength and resilience our beautiful coastal community has. Thank you again to every one of our members who helped and continues to help the community. Your time, passion, commitment, professionalism and the love you’ve shown is second to none. Bring on 2021 hoping it is a safe, happy and healthy year for all.

19.01.2022 A true legend of our club, Gordon Harris He has been the backbone of the club for a long time. It is now time to say farewell and thanks to our old mate Gordy, his work making the club the envy of all in Australia. Gordon was club secretary, from 2000 to 2010, made a life member in 2004 and club person of the year twice.... Gordon has been a member of the callout crew and committee member of the Bay to Breakers since before anyone can remember. His been responsible for countless behind the scene work at the club, entering details in surfguard as well as stocking and working the club bar. It has been suggested he get a bed in the club house as he spends that much time there. We are so lucky to have you Gordon, you will be missed. Its not goodbye, its see you soon

16.01.2022 Thank you to SLS NSW for pulling together the FSC Branchs story from the past Summer of Bushfires

16.01.2022 Life Member - Peter Halkett Peter Halkett has been a devoted member of the Broulee Surfers Surf Life Saving Club Since Transferring from Batemans Bay in 1999. He gained his Surf Rescue certificate in 1978 at Batemans bay and served for a lot of years there, of which there are no records in Surfguard as it did not exist in those days. ... He has been the club maintenance officer since around 2007 and general handyman and electrician donating his time and services many times to the club. Peter did over a decade as patrol captain of Patrol 8 since 2006 and has maintained an extremely diligent patrol service record in his 20 plus years minimum as a member. He has completed a total of 658 patrol hours. Peter was an inaugural member of the Broulee SLSC Club callout list and has been involved in a significant number of incidents. He also holds his Rescue Water Operator Certificate. The earliest record we have of Peter at Broulee SLSC is obtaining his Radio Operator Certificate in 1989. He obtained his IRB drivers certificate at Batemans Bay. From there his records are a bit all over the shop however this year Peter will obtain his 20-year National Patrol Service Award having never missed a season patrolling at Broulee since 1999. Peter has helped as Nipper Age Manager, Duty Bar Manager, Water Safety and Club fundraising events such as annual door knocks or working bees. He is always one of the first members to put his hand up to help with water safety at club and branch carnivals. Even this season, Pete tore his bicep in the notorious surf at Coila Beach, in an act he did to protect the four rowers who he was ferrying to the beach. Without his intervention there could have been a much more serious injury to all the vessel occupants. Despite Peters injury he still helped at the Broulee Bay to Breakers Ocean swim, in a spotting capacity just to help us out. In 2009 Peter was a part of the successful ASRL Open Crew the Craic who took home the silver medal in the Masters. He also helped all over the weekend on of the carnival in various work party roles. Peter has driven an IRB many times for the George Bass Marathon supporting Broulee crews, and even competed in the Bass as a rower. Peter and his wife Robyn have been tremendous members of our club. Robyn previously served as Club Treasurer and remained an active patroller for many years along with their children Jess and Lauren. We are lucky to have you Pete

11.01.2022 The first half of the FSC Branch annual awards announcements were made on Saturday. Congratulations to the winners and to all nominees, there is some outstandin...g work being done in our Branch. The final award recipients will be announced this coming Saturday from 4 pm. We tried to film all nominees catching the award but didnt quite manage to get to everyone so we had to be a little creative with some of the winner deliveries as you would have seen. So, if you havent caught the trophy yet, dont worry, it could still be you taking home the award! Before we start announcing the nominees for this weekends awards, we wanted to share a message from the President of SLSNSW, Mr George Shales. Thanks, George, to you and your team for your support of FSC. #slsnsw #FSCannualawards

11.01.2022 Life Member - Allan Veness Allan has been an active member of the Broulee Surfers SLSC since obtaining his Bronze Medallion in 1984. He has served in many roles within the club including Patrol Captain of Patrol 1 for many years, training officer/assessor for almost 20 years. Hes even proved quite handy on the BBQ cooking up a feast for Patrol One many times. He is the second longest serving president in the Clubs history- from 2012 to 2019, and now in his stint as Acting P...resident. In 2006 Allan (and his alter ego Allan Vanessa) was recognised as the patrolman of the year. Allan this season will receive his 25 year National Patrol Service award. In all of those 25 years Allan has maintained an almost exemplary 100% patrol attendance in hours volunteered for each year of patrols. The record keeping doesnt go back too far, but Surfguard shows Allan has run 18 Bronze Medallion courses as Trainer or Assessor and were sure that actual number of courses and members taught by Allan would be even greater. In his years as Trainer, Assessor and Facilitator Allan has helped out with new courses and of course every year giving up many weekends to ensure our annual proficiencies are conducted. Allan has 61 awards in Surfguard including Bronze Medallion, IRB crew, Patrol Captain, First Aid, Spinal Management, Trainer and Assessor, Certificate IV in Training and Assessing. Under Allans stewardship as President the Club has achieved many significant achievements including the Phase One Club House Redevelopment, Phase Two Clubhouse redevelopment, Renovation of the Gear Shed, introduction of the Broulee Bay to Breakers Ocean Swim, introduction of the Canberra Nippers initiative, and a healthy membership base. Allan has continued to assiduously drive negotiations with the Eurobodalla Shire Council to achieve an equitable lease on behalf of the club. These negotiations have been unresolved since 1985, but thanks to Allans efforts we are hopeful will be resolved soon. Allan remains to be an active patroller, assessor, acting Club President and Committee Member, and is leading the rebuild of Phase II of the club redevelopment on the Building Committee. He is also an avid participant in the Sunday Morning Swim sessions at Broulee Beach. In further contribution to Surf Life Saving, Allan represented the Broulee SLSC at the Far South Coast Branch for many years, helped out as Working party/Beach set up Coordinator for the George Bass Marathon in 2016, and also served as Vice Branch President for several years. In further Community Service Allan has remained a very active member of Moruya Rotary, which has also provided considerable contributions to the Eurobodalla area including the Broulee SLSC. We are lucky you have you Al

06.01.2022 #NYE2020 // The number of rescues over Christmas have been significant, with more than 200 rescues performed by NSW lifesavers since 21 December, one confirmed drowning and a handful of near-fatal incidents. While crowds might be reduced this year due to COVID restrictions and the weather, it is still an extremely dangerous period for drownings, coastal deaths and other emergencies," said SLSNSW President George Shales. We are urging people to play it safe around all forms of water and remember that alcohol and swimming can be a deadly combination.
