25.01.2022 'Could the ‘inner unseen’ role of the heart (its sensitivity to energy) influence its outer physical function (e.g. HRV) in a way that explains our woeful heart disease statistics?'

23.01.2022 A beautiful video on how your lymphatic system works.

23.01.2022 Remedial massage is not about pushing hard to hurt the body but using repetitive strokes to allow the body to relax and as it relaxes to be able to gently massage into the deeper layers.

22.01.2022 Malhotra writes: The most important message in the book which recommends a Mediterranean-style diet low in refined carbohydrate is how lifestyle changes are more powerful than any drug in preventing and treating heart disease; these also come without side effects.'

16.01.2022 'period problems, endometriosis and/or other persistent pelvic pain (PPP) conditions are reaching epidemic proportions worldwide and stretching the medical world beyond its current limits. Broadening the scope of how we look at these women’s health and wellbeing issues makes a lot of sense from both the prevention and treatment perspectives.''

14.01.2022 Dr. Tarnopolsky suggests that, in the long run, a professional massage may even be a better bargain than a pill. If someone says This is free and it might make you feel better, but it may slow down your recovery, do you still want it? he asked. Or would you rather spend the 50 bucks for a post-exercise massage that also might enhance your recovery?

09.01.2022 Filmmaker Stephanie Soechtig and journalist Katie Couric investigate how the American food industry may be responsible for more sickness than previously realized. Instead of blaming the food industry, why do we eat food that makes our body sick. What is the underlying cause? Why do we eat pastries, sodas, highly processed foods, white rice, white bread, other white-flour foods, breakfast cereals, energy drinks, ice cream, chocolate, cakes and anything with processed sugar in... it? Is this to hide our underlying exhaustion epidemic? Why are we exhausted and how do we live so that we are not exhausted? Why are our actions and behaviours at war with our physical bodies? What is truly going on?

09.01.2022 Interesting article on #addiction by a neuroscientist who had her own personal struggle with drugs... I like the conclusion: Ultimately you can’t avoid yoursel...f. It didn’t matter how high I got, I was stuck with myself. I think we’re soon going to get to that point as a society and then we might finally have our moment of truth. Then, Grisel believes, we’ll discover that the way out of addiction was actually inside us all along." See more

08.01.2022 During the COVID-19 pandemic in China, all confirmed patients need to be treated in isolation. Patients under isolation will experience high levels of anxiety and low sleep quality. Therefore, researchers from Hainan hospital tried a muscle relaxation training to alleviate the anxiety and improve sleep quality of patients with COVID-19. In particular, they used the progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) training which can be trained remotely. The average anxiety score (STAI, r...anged from 20 no anxiety to 80 high anxiety) before the intervention was the same around 58. The average anxiety score after intervention dropped significantly to 45, while the control group remains the same. The average sleep quality score (SRSS, from 10 no problem to 50 severe) of the two groups before the intervention was not statistically significant at 24. After the intervention, the treatment group scores dropped to 17, while the control group remains the same. See more

04.01.2022 Today I was reading an article in the British Journal of Sports Medicine about 'Musculoskeletal manifestations of diabetes mellitus'. The following is a quote from this article: 'Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic condition characterised by persistent hyperglycaemia with resultant morbidity and mortality related primarily to its associated microvascular and macrovascular complications. It is common, with recent estimates showing that 7.5% of Australians over 25 have di...abetes, of which 50% of cases are undiagnosed.1 Most of these patients (85%) have type 2 diabetes mellitus. Type 1 generally starts in the young as an autoimmune mediated disease of pancreatic dysfunction, and requires lifelong parenteral insulin supplementation. Type 2 generally occurs in people over 40 and is characterised by insulin resistance.' In my experience the soft tissue of people with diabetes melitus thickenings. In my practice I regularly find the tell tale signs of soft tissue thickening that is associated with diabetes mellitus in clients who have diabetes mellitus and are undiagnosed. If you regularly eat carbohydrates and your soft tissue has thickened, this is a sign to go see your doctor to check for insulin resistance. Taking action early may save a lot of pain, discomfort, explain some of the signs and symptoms you maybe experiencing and may even prevent early death. As the British Journal of Sports Medicine reported 'recent estimates showing 7.5% of Australians of Australians over 25% have diabetes, of which 50% of cases are undiagnosed.'
