25.01.2022 Bianca has headed home to her family. Summer the little jockey on her back is just getting off the lead and doing well. Learning control without the lead and building confidence. Bianca and summer are off to pony club very soon!

24.01.2022 Another snap shot of summer at pony club on the weekend with bianca. Little did I know she won a 4th! Go little one go!

24.01.2022 Happy birthday to my bullzeye baby horse who is 2 years of age today Just love this little guy!

24.01.2022 Got this gelding 15.2 hh , 7 year old. Coming soon to have some work done for a few months. He will be eventually up for sale so keep tuned and don't miss out on this guy. He is a nice little type, not to big but chunky. Nice floating trot !

23.01.2022 Gave my pony some work & a good wash today. She come to me very head shy , the previous owner said she used to be a hack pony and come to him with a very shy head. I think shes had someone swinging off her ears to clip them a while ago. But today I had a win ! Zhe let me brush her forelock and wash her head with a hose without chucking her head up. ... Little stunner she is! Now to wait until she is dry to Clip a bridle path & get rid of her feathers. See more

19.01.2022 This is what sniper thinks of mondays ...

18.01.2022 Summer and bianca went to pony club today ! Summer is turning 5 soon and going great guns. I was told that bianca was a perfectly behaved pony and summer went in her rider class with no lead and all by herself. Its important that the little ones get uplifted seeing as they are the ones that will be following our footsteps.

18.01.2022 Had this conversation with my student lulu today about things that arise with horses out of what we think is coming out of nowhere. Although it isn't coming out of nowhere the animals have their reasons for the things that they do, just to us humans it doesn't seem like a valid reason. To them it is.. Things will pop up because at the end of the day they are horses, they have instincts, they have their own thoughts.. Just work with it , find a solution and work the solution and prepare yourself for the next one.

17.01.2022 A little insight into Pom the WB cross TB Filly that is here at By The Bit. It has been a very busy couple of weeks so filming & uploading content has been challenging.

16.01.2022 Just keep swimming.

16.01.2022 Things like this seem to happen to him all the time.... Another fly veil ... bites the dust...

16.01.2022 Checking the horses that have been turned out. They were very happy to say hello. My baby colt has just turned 2 and filling out nicely. Lokking like a different horse to the yearling I got when he arrived :) Time out in a big paddock has done him good.... Rambo the big chestnut horse is my parents mounted security horse and he has been baby sitting for a while now. He is a Royal little diablo x delta spin foal.. i think he will make a great littlw addition to my team of horses. See more

15.01.2022 Nothing like riding to your local pub to have a drink on a nice day. Horses were perfectly behaved

15.01.2022 I got the very first kiss off my daughter Amity Drew.. Ponies & biscuits! What more could a girl want

14.01.2022 So after giving my green horse abit of a jump over the weekend. I got an itch to do some more . I haven’t jumped in over Ten Years! I’m more then proud of my big red horse for giving it a go even though he had no idea where to put his feet , he just does try’s for me even when he has no idea how to do it. So I put a jump saddle on & gave it another go.

13.01.2022 Happy new years to all BTB followers! Remember... lunge 2021 before getting on...

12.01.2022 Show me your chestnuts

11.01.2022 This is an article I found today for a night where people from all over come to watch people from dubbo ride freestyle dressage. Wow I have some flashbacks ... my pony Gus was not an easy pony at times and boy he made me work to. I remember getting home from school and it being dark. My mum would turn on the flood lights and I would practise at night because that’s way it had to be. ... I went to many different coaches , many different places all over Nsw , hauled me and my pony by my family. I remember bucket loads of purple shampoo ! When I done freestyle ( the side-saddle) I remember I rode to a metronome ( which I use now for coaching) and would go over and over the same test until the music and my horse and I were in rhythm together perfectly. I remember getting poles behind my back , through my arms to make me sit up ! I remember getting my stirrups taken off me and being made ride my tests at home. I remember studying my dressage tests in the lounge room. I remember my pony rolling his eyes everytime I went to catch him and him chasing me out of the paddock. I remember being at state and my pony biting me in the middle of my back... HARD... and having to ride my tests the next day. I remember being hours and hours from home & having strange people come up to us to ask if the pony I was on was called Gus. I remember people thinking my pony was a push button pony yet never knew how many times he and I had our arguments. I remember so many more wins and loses. And I wouldn’t change a thing... Thank you to all my coaches & my family for making the memories possible. And of coarse the trusty little cranky pony that helped me get so far....

11.01.2022 Nice day to sunbake!

10.01.2022 You need never worry about the future of such a horse if for any reason you have to part with him. Teach him well , teach him manners and he will have friends wherever he goes. The greatest kindness you can give a horse is to educate him. He will be looking for a new home this year

09.01.2022 Heading to the state championships at guerie coming up very soon!!

09.01.2022 Last year was a little different to this year. When i was a kid we used to make this a tradition to get the horses out at night dressed up and go Christmas light looking so it was good to get back to that and do it again.

09.01.2022 We've been working on sniper regularly. He has been flagged out on the ground and does great although has issues with things over the top of him which doesn't help with getting up into the saddle . Just because a horse is not phased with things on the ground doesn't mean that in the saddle will be successfully the same. Its important nothing is missed with a horse like this for his safety and our own. Gettting them used to things from all angles is important And every hor...se that comes here gets the flag , sniper done a great job today and again has impressed us. Still with lots more work to do, improvement is happening every time with him. He still gets flighty , but this program he is on is doing wonders for him and we are on the right track to him being relaxed in most situations. We threw my red horse under saddle for lead horse for the first time and again he was reliable and took everything in his stride and got the job done. See more

09.01.2022 How to tie your rope halter correctly.

09.01.2022 Its important that you check horses water everyday or every other day if you cant everyday. This is why , during the warmer months birds will get in the water to cool down or have a drink. And more often then not they can drown. If you find dead birds in your horses water , tip it out and clean it out! This is a good example... ... This water got tipped out after finding the bird. 08.01.2022 We have got a stunning Warmblood X TB here. Just about to turn 2 year old ... meet Pom ! She’s here to get some ground manners happening. Once she is abit more settled in we can start!

08.01.2022 We welcomed back Bianca the little chestnut pony. Bianca was with us at the start of the year for around a month. Bianca is a kids pony and we all know what kids ponies can be like sometimes. There has been no more pigrooting the kids off so that is great! She’s here just to get a little fine tune and some change to get her back interested in her job. ... I’ve really grown to love this little cracker pony although I don’t think she feels the same way about me lol See more

08.01.2022 Problem solving horses looking around not focusing. This is lex he is a very big paint thats is here at BTB for a tune up.

07.01.2022 Back to some basics for Reggie. Today I introduced long reining to him , while he was unsure at first a couple of minutes and he was going well. Aim is to soften this little guy up to get in the saddle ASAP!

07.01.2022 Question of the day What does success mean to you? Everyone has different versions of what success means and No one person is wrong with what their own version is. So what’s yours?

07.01.2022 My green horse houdini trotting a serpentine.

06.01.2022 English saddle is on lookout..

06.01.2022 Pom is heading home this afternoon ! Shes definitely ready. Pom come to By The Bit with no ground manners and very limited handling. We went through a fair bit of education on the ground and once she knew what was expected of her , she thrived.... Last weekend poms owner come to get a lesson and be shown what had been done so far. So that once the filly was home that she could continue to have a respectful , behaved and nice filly. I enjoyed working with pom! See more

06.01.2022 Two boys got a big bath today, they thought that was abit alright! ... Then got to have the grassy house yard to walk around and eat in while they dried.

04.01.2022 Sniper has been in the family now for just under 12 months. When we got him he was flighty as hell and mistrusting. Couldn't rug him , pick his feet up , catch him , saddle him , brush him without him loosing his cool completely. My mum and I have been working with him often handling and riding him. He is a different horse to what he was , still with alot of work to do. ... His future here is very promising. Now we can wash him without being held , saddle him , ride him , brush him pick his feet up, and also rug him out in the paddock without a headstall. He trusts us and is a real smoocher... See more

02.01.2022 Central west barrel club have their championships coming up at the end of February! Come and watch the competitors do their thing and support the riders that have worked hard this year to make it this far :)

02.01.2022 In this video lulu is sorting out a destination issue. The technique shes using caused him to eventually run out of spots to want to head to. These areas he was heading to are the exact spots that lulu has dismounted over the last 12 months of owning him... Horses have a good memory!

01.01.2022 Getting lex to reach , relax and eventually strengthen muscle.

01.01.2022 How many people do you know spend copious amounts of time looking at junk on the net ?! I know a few.... It’s ok to say you can never ask to many questions but im a believer in the CORRECT questions. Have you ever been asked a question and thought ‘ok wow that’s something you could have found out yourself with abit of research & curiosity’... I get it often.... Asking things that they could have found out, IF they wanted to spend the time. My response is to ‘google it , read a book , look it up’ and almost never do they actually follow through. They are the type of people who want your knowledge fast without any work involved. I don’t think it’s ok to ask someone to give their tips & tricks away without at least trying to do it themselves first. People spend their whole lives gaining knowledge and never stop. Only to have someone want the advice without any work involved. People are to afraid to admit defeat or failure and to afraid to want to be a beginner at something new or when around someone. Everyone wants an easy , quick result with limited time being used and never anything that is to hard. Why are people so afraid to go back to being a beginner? Is it pride ? Ego maybe or shame.. One good piece of advice I will give away for free. Be a beginner at EVERYTHING even if you know what to do and this isn’t just applied to horses. Why? Because If you close your mouth & listen , you will learn something new... I recently went to an equine psychotherapy clinic to see what it was all about. Yes I rocked up in a pair of jeans & boots but I never once said I had anything to do with horses but they did eventually work it out themselves ( it’s not a horse education clinic but horses to help healing ) I never said i knew how to lead one , pat one. I never said I was a trainer , coach or that I rode my whole life.. and guess what! They used techniques that I learnt something from.. funny that hey . Close your mouth and listen.. Ask the CORRECT questions and stop wasting all your time looking up junk your brain will thank you for it. . ‘’ knowledge is where you will trip over it’’ . See more
