23.01.2022 This was one of my first trips down to Shizuoka to train with Washizu Sensei. At that time it was very hard to connect with the dojo as no one answers the phone in the dojo and it took a few months of diligent calling to make a connection. I am forever indebted to Kinzo Kajiyama Sensei for all his help and support and very glad someone finally answered the phone!

06.01.2022 Clarification... Some of y’all read my post about titles and the word Sifu & thought I meant that I disdained it or was anti-title. I’m not at all anti-title.... Really, re-read that other post carefully. You’ll NEVER catch me referring to Guro Dan Inosanto as Dan or Prof. Roy Harris as Roy or Matsuoka Haruo Sensei as Haruo or any of my late teachers by first name. I don’t even address Pavel Tsatsouline by anything other than Sir normally. What I’m saying is that we shouldn’t rely on those titles to carry weight on, exert authority over other people, or manipulate others. Using titles in addressing others as a show of genuine respect or affection is part of clear communication to me. I have no insecurity about showing the people the respect they deserve because I don’t have a chip on my shoulder about respecting them. If I did, then maybe I should look more closely at what lies at the root of that kind of insecurity & arrogance. As teachers, instructors, or subject matter experts, we should be constantly accountable to the responsibilities our titles bring with them... and that the successful and consistent responsibilities come well before privilege. So if you focus enough on being about it in the best way with every shred of your being, then trust that game will recognize game when it’s undeniable. And, to me, part of that responsibility is showing respect to the older lions that blazed a trail for us cubs to come up through. #diligence #confidence #hardwork #respect #gamerecognizegame #sifu #titles #leadership #authenticity #lineage #tradition #choice #freewill #honor #lookdeeper #culture

01.01.2022 Welcome! This group is dedicated to the research, study and preservation of Aiki through the lens of Pre-World War 2 Aiki Budo and applying those principles, techniques and teachings in a modern day context and perspective. Kenkyukai denotes an organisation for Martial research. Thanks to technology and social media, we can bring like minded practitioners together in the exchange and pursuit of knowledge. As in Budo, everything begins and end with respect and gratitude. Correct etiquette is mandatory and while debate is certainly encouraged, please do so in a respectful manner. Please share this page with like minded Budoka who are interested in a martial approach to their Aiki.
