20.01.2022 LOOK FOR THE SILVER LINING. The Jerome Kern classic by this name has an appropriate message for these troubled times. In fact it was written in 1919, in the middle of the Spanish Flu pandemic. "Look for the silver lining whenever a cloud appears in the blue. Remember, somewhere the sun is shining ... and so the right thing to do is make it shine for you A heart full of joy and gladness will always banish sadness and strife, so always look for the silver lining and try to find the sunny side of life The 2016 Schools Spectacular rendition at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUdjkR8y4JA (The Silver Lining metaphor can be traced back to John Miltons poem Comus of 1634)" See more

17.01.2022 18-24th May is NATIONAL VOLUNTEERS WEEK CHANGING COMMUNITIES CHANGING LIVES

17.01.2022 Lifeline Crisis Support Service is available 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. It has over 11,000 volunteers and 1,000 staff in 60 centres across Australia. It is able to handle over 3,000 calls per day. Always available - on 13 11 14.

16.01.2022 Uniting East Burwood continues to provide some services, but on a limited basis including reduced hours (9.30am -1.00pm, Mon-Thurs). Emergency Relief staffing has been affected by the government recommendation for people aged over 70 to stay at home, so Family Services staff are providing support, as well as continuing to contact their own clients by phone or email. Clients are asked to phone reception and food parcels are supplied outside the entrance, with some delivered to clients who are self-isolating. Access to our regular food donors has either stopped or is uncertain, and the Op Shop and Bunnings barbecues have both closed down. Now more than ever, the Centre will be grateful for continuing donations from our supporters.

15.01.2022 VOLUNTEERING We have just celebrated National Volunteers Day - this is the story of one Volunteer: Sheila is a TeleFriend volunteer with Villa Maria Catholic Homes. TeleFriend volunteers make weekly phone calls to people who are vulnerable or socially isolated. Sheilah says A lot of people have trouble with technology, so in todays world theyre really left behind. TeleFriend is a simple, old fashioned and easy way of communicating. The idea is to let them talk and I listen. You can usually notice a lift in their spirits by the end of the call. Sheilah has a special affinity with the Villa Maria organisation. Blind since birth, she attended their special school, St Pauls College, in the 1950s.

12.01.2022 FREE PRAISE SONG FOR THE PANDEMIC written and read by Christine Valters Paintner, from Abbey of the Arts music by Giants & Pilgrims... // stream and share video YouTube here:https://youtu.be/zCYoikGaI6U // download & explore more films at: www.theworkofthepeople.com ENDORSEMENTS for Travis and The Work of the People... BRENE BROWN - I think Travis work is critically important, soulful and beautiful. Thank you for what you do. It matters so much. We need your vision and voice. RICHARD ROHR- "The Work of the People" represents a new era of honest and wonder-filled Christianity, that is indeed of the people and not from the usual company men. Watch, listen, and be guided toward wisdom! - GLENNON MELTON DOYLE - Working with Travis is a holy experience. His vision is truth, his warmth is comfort and his energy is FIRE. I believe Work of the People to be the most important, sacred project on the web today. Our time with you made us bigger and better and deeper and wider. GRACE JI-SUN_KIM - "The Work of The People films are crucial assets to churches, organizations, schools and groups who are interested in understanding Christianity for today. These films are artistic, provocative and heartwarming!" ROWAN WILLIAMS - "Traviss films are a resource of deep and thoughtful reflection, helping us see religious faith as a matter of far more than bare belief in abstract truths, but as a whole perspective on the possible riches at the heart of our human existence." BARBARA A. HOLMES - "Through TWOTP's lens, we are able to view the many manifestations of wisdom and hope from women and men, who are also on the journey and are engaging the mysteries of life." BARBARA BROWN TAYLOR - "Travis Reed is a genius behind the camera. In ways that bypass ordinary logic, he sees with his heart, makes connections between apparently unrelated things, and produces films that nourish the life of faith without putting anything sticky sweet in them. You can trust him to move you and make you think at the same time, but above all you can trust him. I did and do.
