22.01.2022 Four ideas for finding home renovation inspiration Once you know you’re ready to embark on a home renovation, it’s time to find inspiration and on-trend ideas to create your dream space. To get your project off to a flying start, here are five ways to find inspiration, new ideas and home-renovating advice with some designer flair. 1. Dream it up: Make a list of all the elements that would come together to create your ideal space everything you love about your current Sydney... home, and what you’d love to create in a dream home renovation. Think about what you’ve seen that works and appeals to you most in other newly renovated homes. Once you’ve created your list, see how it matches your current space and start thinking about what you want and what could be integrated into a home renovation. While you’re listing ideas, it’s handy to ask others about what works / doesn’t work in their homes, especially friends or family who may have recently renovated. 2. Go visiting: Allocate a day to visiting display homes or showrooms in your area of Sydney to get a good idea of the latest design trends and materials/finishings being used. This is one way to check that your own ideas are current and to guide you in creating a modern space. If you have family / friends / neighbours who have recently renovated, ask if you can visit their home for design ideas and chat to them about what they love about their home renovation and if there is anything they would do differently if they had their time again. 3. Street presence: When it comes to facade inspiration for your home renovation, start in your own street. Notice the newly renovated homes in your Sydney neighbourhood and the looks you like most. Also take note of colours that appeal, plus materials used and various styles that could work at your home. 4. Ask an expert: Once you’ve done some of your own design inspiration research, seek expert advice by consulting a building designer or kitchen/bathroom design specialist. This will give you an opportunity to explain your ideas and visions for your space, and then see how an expert thinks these could be integrated into your existing design. A house designer brings his/her own inspiration and ideas plus years of experience to the table and can offer you new ways of creating space/light/comfort and adding those extra on-trend elements to your home renovation.

19.01.2022 An energy-efficient home renovation: Handy ideas to minimise your household's energy output: Reducing your imprint on the environment starts at home, and home renovating is the best time to put on your energy-efficient thinking cap. Adding just a few energy-efficient features to your Sydney home renovation will not only reduce your carbon footprint, but save you dollars in the long-run. Here are some important and handy things to know when it comes to integrating energy-effic...iency into your next home-renovation project. 1) Window wise: If your home renovation includes changing the placement of windows, facing north is the way to go. North-facing windows let the winter sun in, and in summer they block more of the sun. If your window placement can’t be altered, you might choose to add window shutters or outside awnings to block the Sydney summer sun. Although more-expensive, opting for double-glazed windows is another way to reduce the sun’s impact in heating your home in summer, and to minimise heat loss in winter. 2) Reach for the stars: Choosing appliances with high energy-efficiency ratings is an easy way to reduce your home’s energy and/or water consumption. If your home renovation includes new appliances, do compare appliance prices and energy-efficiency / consumption before you buy. If there’s one appliance you up the star rating on consider making it your fridge the one appliance that will be constantly running and consuming power. 3) Light savvy: Making the most of natural light through north-facing window placement will reduce your need for additional lighting, and choosing energy-efficient lighting (or replacing your current lighting with energy-efficient globes) will also help reduce your carbon imprint greatly and save you money in the long-run. While energy-efficient globes will cost you more in the short-term, they consume less energy and have more than double the lifespan of standard globes. Home renovations are also a good opportunity to consider the placement of sky lights in certain rooms/hallways that are positioned away from windows and don’t receive as much natural light. 4) Heating/cooling: There are plenty of ways to reduce your need for heating and cooling, and many can begin before you get home renovating simply by being energy wise. In summer you can: make the most of a change in weather and open up windows/doors to let a cool breeze in, choose fans over air-conditioning and close blinds/curtains during the day to keep the sun and the heat out. Similarly, closing blinds/curtains in winter will help keep the heat in. Amid home renovations is a great time to do something about existing draughts in your home sealing gaps and installing weather seals to external doors and backdraught shutters to exhaust fans in bathrooms.

05.01.2022 Home renovation tips and ideas for adding colour to your new space A little colour goes a long way to brightening up your house, and can be just the thing to inject some life into a dull room or a corner that’s lacking. If home renovations are on the cards, it’s a great opportunity to get thinking about the hues you love most and how to incorporate them into your home-renovation project. Here are a few tips and ideas for splashing some colour into an otherwise neutral palett...e. Colour choices: Before you rush into creating a colour fusion, think about the reason you’re home renovating (to improve your home for yourself, to modernise to sell, to create a certain theme/style) as this will impact on the colour choices you make. If your Sydney home renovation is all about getting your house market-ready for sale, then a neutral colour code is your best bet. Anything too extravagant could create a negative or lasting-for-the-wrong-reasons impression for potential buyers. But clever use of colour will do the opposite, showing freshness and a little flair to give your house that something extra. Opting for the blank-canvas colours of white or off-white can bring an airy, spacious and fresh feel to your home renovations, with subtle complimentary hues added to the mix, and bold statement colour limited to styling via accessories. Stick to your style: Although tempting to go with the latest on-trend colours, it’s best to first look at the colours you love and those that will be practical in your home renovation. For a seamless look and continuity, try to continue the same colour themes throughout your home renovation. Or stick to different shades of the same palette. If you want to incorporate bursts of a bright hue, look to your wardrobe for inspiration. You’ll want to select colour that you’ll be happy looking at day after day after day. Expert advice: If you want to mix up your colour palette and use some bright and bold hues on walls, splashbacks, wallpaper etc, seeking expert advice is often a good idea. A home-renovation colour expert can help with colour selection, as well as matching colours and identifying the best areas of your home to add colour and contrast to. They can offer handy hints too, such as the emotions certain colours can convey, as well as the effect of different colour combinations in different rooms to make the space appear deeper, shorter, smaller, broader etc. Decor difference: One of the easiest, affordable and most practical ways to add colour to your Sydney home renovation is via accessories artworks, vases, bowls, lamps, cushions, rugs. It’s also a great way to add a little of what’s on-trend each season and mix and match colours and styles you love. For those who keep their home a neutral-colour canvas, this is an easy way to bring hints of the seasonal colours into your home without having to do extra minor home renovations in changing paint colour, feature wallpaper or tiling etc.

02.01.2022 Want to give your house a modern revamp but not keen on undertaking a home renovation with all the bells and whistles? Then a cosmetic home renovation may be just the trick. Here’s a run-down of what to consider to achieve a cosmetic renovation facelift with wow factor: 1. First comes the facade: To begin, step outside and start your home renovation ideas from across the road. Have a really good look at the front of your property, and notice what you like and what could do w...ith a change. Questions to ask yourself include: Does my house have a modern colour scheme? Is the garden in line with my personal style? And is the garden practical for my needs? What would my ideal facade include new front door, fresh paint, feature tiling? What else could be changed? This should get you going with loads of ideas and ways you could enhance your home’s street appeal. 2. Take a tour: Starting at the front door, take yourself on a tour of your home. Notice what looks great, what you don’t like, what could be enhanced, any problems areas you’d like to improve and note down any ideas you have as you go. For a cosmetic home renovation, some of the items you might be looking to change include: doors, door handles, tap fittings, paint colours, floor coverings etc. 3. Paint & colour: As you work your way from room to room, notice whether a new coat of paint is needed, as well as the colours you are currently using in each room. Ideally, you’ll want to create a home renovation with colours from the same palette for continuity and a seamless look. A new coat of paint in a crisp fresh colour can do wonders for making your home appear more modern. And it’s a good idea not to ignore the neutral and non-offensive colour palette of white and off-white for big spaces especially if your reason for home renovating is to sell. 4. Fixtures and fittings: The fixtures and fittings that are used throughout your house offer little visual clues about how modern your space is. As you enter each room, take note of your existing light fittings/lightshades, door/wardrobe handles, power points etc and ask yourself whether they’re looking outdated. In bathrooms and kitchens, consider upgrading tap fittings and benchtops, and potentially replacing splashbacks too. Appliances, if old or outdated, can also let down the overall look of these rooms so it’s worth considering how well they work and if it’s time to replace them. 5. Floor coverings: Don’t forget to notice what’s underfoot as you take that tour through your house. Items to consider: whether tiling and splashbacks in bathrooms, kitchens and laundries needs to be updated; how well the carpet is faring - particularly in well-used high-traffic areas; whether floorboards are in need of a sand and polish. Make sure you step outside too and check any decked, tiled or paved areas, and whether it’s worth giving them a little home-renovation care.
