23.01.2022 Sometimes communications during fires, floods and storms go down. How will you prepare? What's your plan?

23.01.2022 Bulli units are on scene at a heavy vehicle roll over on Bulli Pass. Traffic is currently flowing slowly however may be stopped or slowed further to allow vehicle to be recovered. Slow down and be alert if your travelling in the area. UPDATE - ROAD CLEARED and TRAFFIC FLOWING

22.01.2022 Fire Danger Rating for today 16/11/20 is VERY HIGH With weather starting to warm up now is a good time to get you Bush Fire Survival Plan ready. https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/resources/bush-fire-survival-plan

21.01.2022 If part of your plan is to leave during a bushfire, this is one of the reasons that we ask you to leave early. Even if you plan to leave early and can't, staying in your prepared house is preferable to leaving in a car when fire is close by.

21.01.2022 Communities across the country will today pause and remember all those around the world who have lost their lives during conflict. Please join us at 11:00am for... a minute of silence to remember. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we forget.

19.01.2022 The Bush Fire Danger Ratings gives an indication of the possible consequences of a fire, if one was to start. The higher the fire danger rating, the more dangerous the conditions are likely to be. Review your bush fire survival plan. Keep informed and monitor conditions. Be ready to act if necessary. 17.01.2022 Last weekend Bulli Brigade had 3 firefighters go through specialised remote area training focusing on Helicopter Insertion Techniques. This training allows the firefighters to perform hover entry and exit from aircraft and if required to be winched in and out with their gear bags. These firefighters add additional resources to the Illawarra Remote Area Firefighting Team. This unit doesn’t only provide support to the Illawarra District but also can be utilised as a NSWRFS stat...e resource for many activities including Rapid Aerial Response Team, Remote Area Operations and many more. This addition to the team will assist our community by accessing fires earlier and attempting to keep fires smaller. Additionally we have members currently training for their Arduous Pack test, who will also assist with Remote Area Operations. Congratulations to all on your continued training! 16.01.2022 Today at Training our Brigade received Premiers Citations to recognise contributions to the unprecedented 2019-2020 bushfire crisis. The citation acknowledges the work of brigade members, both on the front line and those that helped at the station to ensure that our trucks and our members could keep turning out. The brigade recognises the important role that our members were able to play in protecting our community. We would also like to acknowledge the families and workplac...es that made alternate arrangements to allow our trucks to roll. Congratulations to all who received their citation today!

13.01.2022 Bulli Brigade out and about again today , assisting other agencies during this storm event. Multiple brigades are working across the district to cuttting trees, assessing flooding roads, and assisting with sandbagging. Take care on roads, particularly in our local area as they may be closed at short notice. If you require assistance you can contact the SES on 132500, or if it is a life threatening situation use 000.

10.01.2022 It's always lovely to meet up with our colleagues from other brigades. Today members from Bulli, Austinmer Rural Fire Service, Mt Keira Fire Station, Otford Rural Fire Brigade, Darkes Forest Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade and Helensburgh Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade have been put through their paces and completed their Breathing Apparatus Operator recertification. Congratulations!

09.01.2022 Today is International Mens Day. Today we recognise the efforts of two men in our community. Two of our most influential, Keith and Warren Robinson, have been mentors to our members for over 60 years. Both Warren and Keith were heavily involved in the forming of the Rural Fire Service as we know it today. This includes the changing of our organisations name from Bush Fire to Rural Fire Service to reflect the many ways that we assist our communities. ... Warren and Keith both joined the then Bulli Bush Fire Brigade at very early ages. They have been very active members who have continuously assisted the brigade where ever and whenever they could, ever since. In the early days (the brigade was established in 1942) the Brigade met in the back room of the Bulli Ambulance Station and the brigade members would sometimes assist with driving the ambulance to incidents. There was limited equipment back then and at times Warren and Keith would use their own vehicles, Land Rovers of course, to tow small fire trailers. They would also acquire various bits of equipment and modify them to use within the brigade and other brigades within the District. They have both assisted with many out of area deployments in the North, West and South of the state and have seen many fires that have devastated communities. They also assisted many other emergency agencies such as Police Rescue Squad with cliff rescues and searches; and Civil Defence who are now known as the SES. Keith and Warren have been involved in training, mentoring and supporting the Bulli Bush Fire and now Rural Fire Brigade along with their brothers, wives, parents, children and fellow members. At times they would forego holidays unless everything was covered for the protection of their community. Warren worked for many years with the Wollongong City Council, as the Fire Control Officer. After nearly 30 years in this position and at the time of his retirement he was the longest serving Fire Control Officer in the state. In 2003 Warren was elected Deputy Captain of the brigade where he has continued being and active member, still turning out to incidents and assisting with maintenance around the station and on vehicles. Keith has held many positions within the brigade including Brigade Training Officer, Captain from 1972 until 2012 (an impressive forty years!), President for 2 years, and from 2012 Deputy Captain, a position he still holds today. Keith and Warren still work tirelessly for the RFS, spending many hours mentoring newer members and passing on the vast amount of experience and knowledge they have acquired over the years. We are very honoured to have their experience and knowledge to learn from, and are very proud to see them receiving medals and clasps for 60 years service at our recent AGM.

08.01.2022 We are expecting a peak in temperatures across the Illawarra this weekend, with an expected Fire Danger Rating of Very High. If you see a fire without a fire truck in attendance call 000. Visit https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au for more information

06.01.2022 Usually this time of year for Bulli Brigade means supporting the I98FM Illawarra Convoy. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic Convoy looks a little different this year and we will be supporting the cause by doing #convoyathome NSW RFS Illawarra District i98 FM

06.01.2022 In a continuously changing environment, we have reinstated measures to help ensure that we can keep providing our community with the best emergency service we can give. Our priorities are to; 1. Keep our brigade operational so we can continue to provide the best emergency response that we can to our community.... 2. Keep our members, their families and the most vulnerable people in our communities safe. What will this mean? * You won't find us as normal in the station yard on Saturdays. * We are unfortunately unable to have any non member, family or otherwise in our facility. * We are suspending all non essential activities. * We will not be processing new member applications until further notice. We ask that you join us and remain vigilant with implementing standard COVID safety protocols to keep loved ones and the greater community safe.

01.01.2022 This Christmas we reflect on the extraordinary year that's past. It's not exactly the same Christmas as usual, it's focussed our thoughts on what's important, our friends our family and our community. So from us to our families and friends and the greater community, thank you for your continuous support. We can't do what we do without you backing us. Have a safe, peaceful and happy Christmas.

01.01.2022 Today, Bulli RFB had a visit from Corrimal Fire & Rescue 269 . Corrimal brought their truck over to show us the equipment they carry and how they use it. As we work alongside these guys occasionally, this gave our newer members a chance to get to know the crews from 269 and find out what they do. It also gave our older members a chance to catch up with some of our previous members who have left us and gone on to be retained firefighter's with NSWFR.
