24.01.2022 One of the great aspects of our work here at SWDC is being able to support local projects in the community. It was fantastic to have the State Government's Regi...onal Economic Development (RED) grants recipients come together at the Bunbury Geographe Motor Museum for a special announcement. Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan and Bunbury MLA Don Punch announced a total of 15 recipients will share in almost $1.2 million through Round 3. There are some really amazing projects receiving funding and we look forward to these all coming to fruition. Find out what projects received funding by clicking here: https://bit.ly/3kRjdCc

23.01.2022 This morning I can now announce our next cautious and safe step as part of WA's controlled interstate border. Subject to no further outbreaks occurring and base...d on updated Chief Health Officer advice, Victoria and New South Wales will be classified as 'very low risk' states from 12.01am, Tuesday, December 8. The transition to the new category can occur, following a review by our Chief Health Officer after Victoria surpassed 28 days of no community cases and New South Wales is due to reach that milestone this Friday. As a result, WA's controlled interstate border will be safely adjusted, with travel from Victoria and New South Wales to be permitted into WA with the following conditions: - all Perth Airport arrivals to undergo a health screening and temperature test on arrival - travellers to be prepared to take a COVID-19 test at the airport COVID clinic, if deemed necessary by a health clinician (voluntary asymptomatic testing available for all airport arrivals) - completion of a G2G Pass declaration, stipulating they do not have any COVID-19 symptoms and which jurisdictions the traveller has been in over the previous 14 days - all travellers to receive a SMS health check reminder one week into their stay in WA - all land arrivals to be met at the border checkpoint, for a health screening and to have their G2G Pass declaration checked. Other jurisdictions currently in the ‘very low risk’ category include the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, Northern Territory and Tasmania. The significantly improved situation in Victoria and New South Wales has been fantastic news for all Australians, and now it means that we can take this cautious next step. However, at this stage, South Australia will remain classified as a ‘medium risk’ jurisdiction. This classification will be reviewed again by December 11. Travel from South Australia remains prohibited unless travellers meet strict exemption criteria. Exempt travellers must also self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in Western Australia. Please note that those conditions apply to anyone who has been in South Australia in the previous 14 days. This also includes transit through South Australia, via road or air. Like always, we’re continuing to follow our State’s expert health advice. Our border controls have worked and allowed us to stay safe and return to a new normal throughout this pandemic, to get our economy going and people back in work. Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding during this extremely difficult time. I know it's been a long wait, and I'm so glad we can now safely allow more of our friends and family over east to travel into WA. Our careful and cautious approach has kept our State safe and strong and we will continue to take that approach going forward.

Please refer to www.wa.gov.au for the latest information A reminder that from 12.01am Saturday 14 November, WA ...will transition to a controlled interstate border. Here are some of the measures in place to keep our community safe: Every traveller will need to complete a registration and declaration using G2G PASS to enter WA. Each G2G PASS will be scanned by an authorised officer upon arrival. Every traveller will undergo a health screening upon arrival at Perth Airport. Anyone who has been in either VIC or NSW or who has knowingly come into contact with someone from VIC or NSW in the 14 days prior to entering WA will be required to quarantine for 14 days. 13.01.2022 Our building and construction industry plays an absolutely critical role in our State’s economy creating jobs for West Aussies and building the infrastructure... that builds our communities. This week, our Government introduced the Building and Construction Industry (Security of Payment) Bill 2020, to improve the rights and protections of subcontractors in the industry. These laws will help to ensure payment is made on time to those carrying out construction work or supplying related goods and services across the State, by introducing a mandatory retention trust scheme. This will protect subcontractors' retention money from being misappropriated or lost altogether in insolvency at each level of the contracting chain. The Bill also means registered building contractors with a history of ripping off subcontractors can be removed from the industry. We made a commitment to delivering these reforms at the 2017 State Election, and today our Government takes another step forward in ensuring a fairer system for WA subbies.

11.01.2022 Bunbury really is a fantastic place to live and visit - and the Transforming Bunbury's Waterfront project is making it even better. A $78.1 million commitment ...in the State Budget is set to further transform Bunbury's waterfront, building on the considerable work that's already been done. Stage 3 of this project will deliver vital infrastructure, which will create local jobs and benefit locals and visitors alike. The new funding is on top of the $34.4 million invested in Stages 1 and 2 of the project. As part of Stage 3, two new breakwaters to be constructed, along with the creation of a marine lifting and servicing precinct. Landside civil works at Casuarina Boat Harbour will improve services, roads, landscaping, parking, and include upgrades to existing boat launching facilities and new public amenities. I am proud that we have been able to invest this additional funding for this important Bunbury project which will create more opportunities for local jobs and local businesses. Stage 2 is progressing well and is on track for completion later this year.

10.01.2022 Our friends at Bunbury Fringe Festival 2021 launched their 2021 program last night, in a typically fun affair featuring Geographe wines galore! We're a proud su...pporter of this wonderful local event, now in its fifth year, and the way it champions local business and industry - ours included! Many an interstate or international artist has been won over by the Geographe wine they're sipping before their show, and the team makes sure that they incorporate Geographe wineries into the tour they create for their Fringe ambassadors each year. Last year, Willow Bridge Estate winemaker Kim Horton ended up being quite carried away by the madcap gals of YUCK Circus - quite literally And in 2019, hilarious Perth-onality Famous Sharron got her pink on at Green Door Wines and left RAVING about the region! We can't wait to see what antics the Fringe family get up to this coming January!!
10.01.2022 Lest we forget the incredible sacrifices that so many made to ensure our future!
10.01.2022 This morning was an update on the Bunbury Waterfront. Thanks to the South West Development Commission, DevelopmentWA, and Department of Transport for speaking on the completion of Stage 2 and progress of Stage 3 due to start very soon. An exciting chapter for Bunbury.

09.01.2022 Today were setting a new challenge for Western Australia: We want our State to manufacture wind turbine components - and were going to work with local industr...y to help make it happen. With renewable energy becoming more and more effective and important, those technologies offer a strong opportunity to establish significant and sustainable local manufacturing. The fact that full wind towers are being imported into the country has restricted job opportunities in manufacturing and fabricating by Western Australian businesses. We have talented, innovative and willing steel fabricators in Western Australia, and we believe this could be a great chance to secure more quality, long-term jobs for WA workers. So with our WA Recovery Plan, were launching a feasibility study to establish whether this is a viable option for our State. Its something thats never been done here before - but it has the potential to create a new pipeline of WA jobs - and thats why weve made it a part of our Plan. So WA - lets take up the challenge and charge up another exciting new industry.
