23.01.2022 If you are going on a work trip take a small zip lock bag with you. At the end of the day take your receipts out of your wallet/handbag and transfer them into the bag each night to bring home with you. This way you can maximise your deductions.

23.01.2022 The new financial year is well underway. I will be available for face to face Individual tax return appointments from Wednesday 25th of July till Saturday 28th of July in Devonport. 17.01.2022 Small business Tip 2 - Do a financial health check of your business. Reviewing your most recent financial statements will help you identify key areas of weakness or potential threats. Using financial ratios such as liquidity ratios, solvency ratios, profitability ratios and return on investment ratios, and comparing these with prior year figures will ensure that you can identify and focus on the areas of your business most in need of improvement.

12.01.2022 It is almost tax time again. My fee this year is $60.00 per individual return or $110.00 if the return includes a rental property. I believe this represents great value. 12.01.2022 A very big thankyou to the kind person who nominated me in the local legend category of Kochies business builders competition. I would really appreciate your support.

11.01.2022 As 2015 gets underway it is a great time for small business owners to take stock for the year ahead. Over the next few weeks I will offer a few general tips that some business owners might find beneficial. Tip 1 - Revisit your strategic plan and adjust it if necessary. If you dont have one it is a good idea to develop one. Use the start of the year to reflect on the lessons learned from your business the previous year and to identify opportunities and challenges.... The lessons, both negative and positive, should be incorporated into your strategic plan and business processes. You should also include any steps to take advantage of new opportunities and to address challenges.

11.01.2022 Joe Hockey unveiled a big suprise in the budget tonight lifting the small business immediate deduction limit from $1,000 to $20,000 for assets purchased between tonight and 30 June 2017. If you are a small business owner thinking about buying a new asset this move certainly makes it more attractive.

10.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all my clients, family and friends. Thank you for your ongoing support. I look forward to seeing you all in the new year.

08.01.2022 A special present from a client today.

08.01.2022 Small business tip 5 - Consider entering new markets. The Asia-Pacific Small Business Survey revealed that only 34% of Australian small businesses reported growing last year. Give this it is surprising that more businesses arent seeking growth in other markets. Consider setting aside some time to research potential new markets. Think about what it would take to enter those markets and how ready your business is for such an expansion.

07.01.2022 Small business Tip 3 - Review your budget. If you dont have one develop one. One of the most important aspects to a budget is regular monitoring against actual results. It is wise to allocate some time each month to review actual versus budgeted figures to ensure that your strategic objectives are being met and make adjustments if they are not.

07.01.2022 I am proud to be supporting Brian Lyons in his bid to win the Cadbury marathon tomorrow morning in Hobart. Good luck Brian.

07.01.2022 I wish all my clients and their families a very happy festive season. My contact with you throughout the past year has been a great experience. I look forward to working with you all next year. Merry Christmas.

07.01.2022 If you are looking at selling or leasing your house you should consider NJH Realty. They have some very innovative ideas. You can check out their website at www.njhrealty.com.au

06.01.2022 Small business tip 4 - Revisit your marketing plan. Cash flow is the lifeblood of small business. Your marketing plan should be focused on key objectives particularly improving cash flow. Marketing ideas to improve casflow include:... - Focus promotional activities on sales that have a high profit margin and bring in cash quickly. -Focus on encouraging customers to pay as early as possible. Discounts can be offered for prompt payment. -Reward loyal customers. For instance a coffee shop may have a loyalty card where every fifth coffee is free. -Offering discounts or rewards for referrals.

06.01.2022 Some great advice for business start ups from Richard Welsh of Epic Events and Marketing.

04.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all my clients and their family and friends. I look forward to seeing you all in the new year.

04.01.2022 It is almost tax time again. My fee this year is $70.00 per individual return or $110.00 if the return includes a rental property. I believe this represents great value. I am available for appointments at 3 Georgiana Street, Devonport from Friday 15th Wednesday 27th of July. Alternatively you can fill in and email back to me one of my online checklists at anytime. These checklists can be found on my website www.troyatkins.com.au. Appointments can be made by email at [email protected] or by phone on 0407 306 979.

04.01.2022 One of the most overlooked tax deductions is for home office expenses. For occupations like teachers that spend a lot of time doing extra work from home it is worth while keeping a four week diary to substantiate the number of hours you spend. You can claim 34 cents per hour spent so over a year it adds up.

04.01.2022 Tax season is well underway. Why not book an appointment and get any refund owing to you as soon as possible.

04.01.2022 A great summary from CPA Australia on the federal budget. https://www.cpaaustralia.com.au//document/about/budget.pdf

03.01.2022 The ATO app is well worth downloading. It has all kinds of useful information for individuals and business owners as well as handy superannuation tips. It has record keeping tools along with a raft of other great features.

03.01.2022 The Chosen Few 2 about the AFL captains was a great documentary last night. It shows how great leaders of organizations are not determined by age or experience but by their values. This applies to small business as well.

01.01.2022 If anyone is thinking about changing accounting software send me a direct message. I have a free ebook available which will outline the pros and cons of the major programs.
