25.01.2022 There are now two ways to connect with Bungendore RFS this Get Ready Weekend! Watch us on Facebook Live at 12:30pm on Saturday 19th on our Facebook page ...or...... Join us in person This is a Covid Safe event, and as such each session is capped at 15 people. Please register for the face to face event through Eventbrite for either the 11am or 12:30pm session to secure a spot. https://bungendoregrw2020event1.eventbrite.com.au https://bungendoregrw2020event2.eventbrite.com.au

24.01.2022 Early yesterday evening we were called to a smoke sighting in the vicinity of Aberfeldy Lane (south of Kings Hwy). We came upon a very large bonfire north of the Kings Hwy a few kilometre out from Bungendore village. It was under control with a number of families enjoying an event. Thank you to the property owners cooperation. Sadly we missed the marshmallows. A reminder also to anyone wanting to clean up hazards by using pile burns or fire in general. Even though we are currently outside the Fire Season there are still legal obligations you must abide by. You must contact the local Fire Control Centre (not our station) during business hours and at least 24hr before lighting up on 02 6128 0600. You also need to notify your neighbours to reduce panic and them thinking that your house is burning down and calling 000.

24.01.2022 We are training this morning in the village. Rotation exercises through all of the core skills our firefighters need. #NSWRFS

24.01.2022 An important message from Fire and Rescue NSW. Smoke alarms save lives*! (*assuming they are maintained, have a battery, and have not expired) Smoke alarms can sometimes help save property too, alerted occupants and neighbours on several occasions have acted (000!) and saved the property from complete loss.

23.01.2022 With roughly only one month to go before the Bushfire Danger Period and the requirement for permits before lighting comes into force, make sure you get the hazards reduced before the 30th September 2020. Even outside the Bushfire Danger Period you must make sure you notify the appropriate people. You can either jump onto the following website: https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-inform//burn-notifications... Or call your local Fire Control Centre (not your local brigade). For the Queanbeyan/Palerang Regional Council, it is located in Queanbeyan. Phone number is: 02 6128 0600. Make sure you call during business hours (mon-fri) and at least 24hours before lighting up.

23.01.2022 At around 9:30pm we were responded to the report of a structure fire on Ellendon Street in Bungendore. Upon arrival crews were met with a carport and a vehicle park under it, both fully involved in flames and with the fire starting to encroach on the next door neighbours house as well as the granny flat joined to the carport. Our crews were able to bring the fire under control extremely quickly and extinguished the blaze keeping it to just the car and carport with a small amount of damage to the inside wall of the granny flat. Thanks to our friends at both Queanbeyan City Rural Fire Brigade as well as Fire and Rescue NSW Station 428 Queanbeyan for assisting with the incident too!!

22.01.2022 Edit: This years Get Ready Weekend will now take place at the Bungendore RFS Sheds on Saturday 19/09/2020. To ensure our event is Covid Safe, there will be two sessions held, and numbers will be capped at 15 for each session. If you want to attend you will need to register for the event through Eventbrite see our new post giving details of these new arrangements. What actions can we take as an individual or family to ensure that we are well prepared ahead of this fire season...? Get Ready Weekend provides a great opportunity to chat with your local brigade about questions and queries you might have, or to talk through your Bush Fire Survival Plan with one of our experienced volunteers. Get Ready Weekend is planned for September 19th, between 10am -2pm at the IGA Bungendore on Malbon Steet. Cant get along, and want to build your plan? Use the link below to work through this step by step with your family or household. https://www.myfireplan.com.au/

21.01.2022 Please be advised there is a VERY large male deer on and near the road (currently still alive) about 10km east of Bungendore village (towards Braidwood). Please drive carefully through that area so that Santa will still have Rudolf to guide his sleigh at Christmas this year!

21.01.2022 We will be out at Hoskinstown today assessing some of our new members. There will be smoke in the area around the Sheehans Road area with quite a few appliances in attendance. If you see unexpected and unattended smoke in other areas please call 000.

21.01.2022 Bungendore are currently on scene of a House Fire on Malbon Street (Kings Highway) in the village, east of the railway line. Fire fighting operations may disrupt traffic. Detours are available. #NSWRFS

20.01.2022 We will be undertaking brigade training near and around the Scout Hall in Turallo Terrace. Please exercise caution as there may be people crossing the road etc. Feel free to come say high.

20.01.2022 We have just returned from assisting our RFS cousins in Captains Flat at a car fire just south of Captains Flat village. Fire & Rescue NSW was also require to provide HAZMAT support due to the diesel fuel that spilt from the vehicles fuel tank when it melted due to the fire. No one was injured during the incident.

19.01.2022 Please be advised the the ‘low level’ crossing at the end of Turallo Terrace into Elmslea is currently under water however there are NO road closure signs. Please use the Tarago Road enterance into Elmslea.

19.01.2022 Fact: Grass fires can move three times as fast as a bush fire, they start easily and spread quickly. Grass fires will pose a risk in NSW this fire season so make sure you have a cleared area around your home. Learn the 5 simple actions to prepare your property at myfireplan.com.au

18.01.2022 UPDATE: the Burn went very well this morning. Attached are some photos. The property owner is monitoring the piles now so you still may see some smoke in the area. Depending on favourable weather conditions, we will be assisting a property owner on the corner of Matthew Lane and Bungendore Road (near the Bungendore Showgrounds) to burn a multiple number of pile burns. We are aiming to kick off around 9am this Saturday morning (29th August). Please dont be alarmed if see smoke raising from the area.

18.01.2022 We have just returned from being responded to the report of a fire off the side of the Kings Hwy near Warri bridge. On arrival we found a camp fire that had been set up very diligently with a concrete pad for it to sit on and the user had cleared a couple of metres distance of vegetation. They advised that when it was lit there was quite a bit of smoke and we believe this is what a passer by spotted.

18.01.2022 We will be training tonight at the station using some fake smoke. If you see smoke coming from the building please don't be alarmed. We often use fake smoke similar to stage smoke to simulate structure fires to help our responses and create a slightly more realistic scenario.

17.01.2022 Last night we were responded to the report of a structure fire on Macs Reef Road. It turned out to be a chimney fire. Thankfully it was brought under control quickly with very little damage to the house. Thanks Fire and Rescue NSW Station 428 Queanbeyan! This is a timely reminder to get your chimneys checked and cleaned. Particularly seeing as we have been stuck at home more thanks to COVID-19.

17.01.2022 On the build up to Get Ready Weekend (September 19th) we will be focusing on the idea of Community Resilience. We should be proud of the strong community response to the last fire season. Over the next six weeks we will look at three broad ideas. What can we do ourselves to contribute to the idea of Community Resilience? ... What can we do for our neighbours or together as a neighbourhood to contribute to the idea of Community Resilience? What can we do as a community to contribute to the idea of Community Resilience? Lets focus on these strengths, and the important lessons we learnt, in readying ourselves for the fire season ahead.

16.01.2022 Fact: Your safest option is to leave early. A bush fire can be a terrifying situation, intense heat and flames will make you tire quickly, it will be difficult to see and breathe. You may become confused or disorientated. Powerlines and fallen trees can block roads and make driving dangerous. It’s always better to leave early, before the fire arrives. Visit myfireplan. com.au and make a bush fire survival plan, it will help you make important decisions like when to leave or what you need to be prepared to stay.

16.01.2022 A reminder that the Fire Season in our area (Lake George District) is set to begin at the start of October. Now is the time to sort out your fire plans and also reduce fuel loads around your properties. We dont want a repeat of last season. We do however, need to ensure we learn from it to reduce the chances of it happening again!

15.01.2022 Bungendore RFS Get Ready Weekend The Bungendore RFS Get Ready Weekend is being held at the station, 28 King Street, Saturday 19th September. The approach looks a little different this year with the hour long session beginning with a presentation, leading on to the opportunity to collect a Bush Fire Survival Plan, any pamphlets and information you may need and the opportunity to talk with our volunteers.... This will event will give you the opportunity to: -Be informed about local risks ahead of this years Fire Season -Learn how to create your own Bush Fire Survival Plan -Ask our fire fighters any questions your may have ahead of this fire season. This is a Covid Safe event, and as such each session is capped at 15 people. Please register through Eventbrite for either the 11am or 12:30pm session to secure a spot. https://bungendoregrw2020event1.eventbrite.com.au https://bungendoregrw2020event2.eventbrite.com.au

14.01.2022 Hi Everyone, we have been requested by ANU to put this up for anyone interested in participating: - Dear All... The Mother and Child Study 2020 is looking for participants to take part in an important epidemiological study of mothers and their babies. The summer of 2019/20 saw record breaking bushfires that some have dubbed the black summer. More than 10 million hectares of the local environment was devastated and around 3,000 homes were lost. Canberra had the worst air quality in the world this January. Since the bushfires, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we live and interact with each other. Amongst all of this, a new generation of Australians are being brought into the world. A healthy start to life is important for long term health and wellbeing. How has the health of mothers and babies in the ACT and South-Eastern NSW been impacted by these 2020 events? If you were: pregnant OR had a baby no older than 3 months on 1st February 2020, or you became pregnant by 30th April 2020, then youre invited to participate in the Mother and Child 2020 study. Further information and a link to the study can be found at the following link https://medicalschool.anu.edu.au/MC2020study All mothers, exposed or not exposed to bushfire smoke, are welcome to be involved. Please forward this invitation to anyone who might be interested in participating.

14.01.2022 The fire danger rating for the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council tomorrow (Sunday 29th November) is set to be VERY HIGH. If you see signs of fire and there is no one in attendance, call 000 immediately.

14.01.2022 Please be advised, just in case you see smoke in the vicinity....

13.01.2022 Earlier this afternoon we were responded to the report of powerlines down on Malbon Street. On arrival we found members from QPRC on scene and directing traffic and people away from a single power line which had broken free from the pole and was laying on the ground just outside the Carrington. Essential Energy were on scene quickly but due to the local Bungendore Telstra tower losing power, they were hampered in their efforts to resolve the situation (paperwork to ensure pow...er wasnt restored while they were in the middle of fixing it etc couldnt be done without Telstra data being available). Eventually everything was completed and the power restored. It is believed that a crow had caused the lines to arc which setup an extremely high surge of current which then blew the line off the pole. Never a dull moment, we dont just get called to fires. Thanks to all involved and your professionalism! Telstra See more

13.01.2022 As there weather turns foul out there, please make sure you drive to the conditions. Slow down, have patience and be on the lookout for hazards such as Black Ice. Stay safe everyone!!

12.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the great Dads out there! Hope you have a relaxing time with family & friends!

12.01.2022 We will be out and about in and around Bungendore village this morning doing training. Today’s topic is Interface Firefighting - protecting property in the event of a fire impacting the area. We got plenty of practice with this last fire season but it is alway good to practice regularly to be the most effective and safest we can be. If you see us around come and say hi!

12.01.2022 Be advised that the low level crossing at the end of Turallo Terrace going into Elmslea is now well under water. Please use the Tarago Road entrance instead.

12.01.2022 BANG! BANG! "What was that?" Once again, theres no need to jump onto a community Facebook page to ask the question. We can tell you already. The Majura Trainin...g Range in the ACT has let us know they have their next live firing exercise commencing Monday 17 Aug, running through to Thursday 20 Aug. Loud explosions are expected to be heard across Queanbeyan and surrounds during the main exercise on Tuesday between 7.30am and 5pm. The noise on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday should be much smaller, based on the size of explosive, and location. The extent of the noise is reliant on weather conditions on the day. There is no cause for alarm, however dog owners may want to consider making arrangements if they have an anxious dog. Tips include putting your dog in your garage with a radio on as background noise and ensuring your dog is secure and not able to run away in fear of the noises.

11.01.2022 We have just been responded to the report of a fire in the vicinity of the intersection of the Kings Hwy & Foxes Elbow Road. More to follow.

10.01.2022 From today www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify

10.01.2022 Spare a thought for our fellow Aussies in northern NSW. While we are getting rain and in some cases snow near and around us, their fire season has already kicked off. Now is the time to make a plan. Now is the time to get you house and properties fire safe. Dont wait until the time where a fire truck is in your driveway with a firefighter knocking on your door. Stay safe everyone near and around Duranbah. Our thoughts are with you and hopefully we wont need to send crews up to help but know that we will if we are called on.

10.01.2022 Thankfully a LOT different this year compared to this time last year.....

09.01.2022 A timely reminder to make sure you have a fire plan. Our area is still set to be Low/Moderate tomorrow, however, the fuel load (though still currently green) could easily dry out with only a few warm windy days!

09.01.2022 What can we do ourselves to build Community Resilience? What actions can we take as an individual or family to ensure that we are well prepared ahead of this fire season? Now is the perfect time to think about readying your home or your property before the fire season starts. Some of these actions are simple and will only require a little of your time, others you may need to plan for. ... Use the tool below to help. https://assessmyrisk.rfs.nsw.gov.au/

07.01.2022 We have just returned from the report of a grassfire on Tarago Road, north of the village. After a brief search, we found the remains of a very small fire tucked away behind a shed. It was almost out and wasnt going anywhere. The owners had prepared the area around it well. You may be able to see the glow from Tarago Road. It is nothing to be alarmed about. Thanks to our Wamboin RFS friends who also turned up to play Wamboin Rural Fire Brigade

07.01.2022 Fact: Only 6.9% of NSW was impacted by bush fire in the 2019/20 fire season. This means there is a significant bush fire risk for the coming 2020/21 fire season. It only takes 5 minutes to improve or make a plan that will give your property, your family and yourself the best chance of survival. Get ready now at myfireplan.com.au

06.01.2022 There are multiple reports of a motor vehicle collision on Macs Reef Road. Macs Reef Road is currently closed in both directions, please avoid the area.

05.01.2022 With the recent and forecasted light and sound show (thunder storms), please check out your property after the storm has passed for any trees that may have been hit by lightning. In some cases it can sit and smoulder for many days afterwards and then, with the right conditions kick off a bush or grassfire. Many of the fires last season were started this way! If you do come across a tree on fire and don’t feel like you are able to extinguish it, call 000 immediately.

05.01.2022 UPDATED: The Tarago/Bungendore Rd is now open! Be advised: The Tarago/Bungendore Road is now CLOSED due to flooding at the bridge located between Ashby Drive and Turrallo Terrace. We have just returned from rescuing one driver who got stuck in the flood water. Remember, if its flooded, forget it!

03.01.2022 The fire danger rating for the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council today (1st December) is set to be VERY HIGH. Please think twice about activities that involve things like welding, grinding, slashing etc outside in the open. Better still postpone them to another day. If you see signs of fire and there is no one in attendance, call 000 immediately.

03.01.2022 Earlier this morning we were responded to the report of a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) on Hoskintown Road, south of the village. On arrival we found the vehicle on the side of the road and the occupant has been conveyed to hospital by a member of the public. We confirmed that there was no risk of fire and then returned to station. Hope the driver makes a quick recovery!

02.01.2022 We will be out and about in the village (mostly near the Bungendore Showground) doing some grass fire fighting training. If you see us, feel free to come and say hi. Below is a couple of videos of us practicing techniques we employ when attacking grass fires. We used Swiss balls with water inside to make them heavier and their movement more erratic.

01.01.2022 We have returned for being responded to assist NSW Ambulance at a property on Tarago Road north of the village. We wish the patient a speedy recovery!
