19.01.2022 Today CFA brigades were called to a number of out-of-control burn-offs If you're using the great weather to clean-up your property for fire season, make sure ...you conduct your burn-off safely. A burn-off, if not extinguished properly can re-ignite days after the original burn. Keep your burn-off safe and legal: Check fire restrictions with your local council and register your burn on 1800 668 511 Check and monitor weather conditions particularly wind To avoid unnecessary calls to emergency services, notify your neighbours beforehand Leave a three metre fire break, free from flammable materials around the burn Have sufficient equipment and water to stop the fire spreading Never leave a burn-off unattended stay for its entire duration If your burn-off gets out of control, call ‘000’ immediately

16.01.2022 Would you think that inside a car is a good place to shelter from a bushfire? "A lot of fatalities in bushfires are caused by people who just leave the decision to leave far too late." #BigWeather #YourPlanetAU #bushfireplanning #ReadyTogether

16.01.2022 Today we remember them. This morning, on behalf of the Occasional Care Children, I laid a wreath at the Meredith Memorial, made by the children for this very da...y. This taken from the Australian War Memorial On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War. From the summer of 1918, the five divisions of the Australian Corps had been at the forefront of the allied advance to victory. Beginning with their stunning success at the battle of Hamel in July, they helped to turn the tide of the war at Amiens in August, followed by the capture of Mont St Quentin and Pèronne, and the breaching of German defences at the Hindenburg Line in September. By early October the exhausted Australians were withdrawn from battle. They had achieved a fighting reputation out of proportion to their numbers, but victory had come at a heavy cost. They suffered almost 48,000 casualties during 1918, including more than 12,000 dead. In the four years of the war more than 330,000 Australians had served overseas, and more than 60,000 of them had died. The social effects of these losses cast a long shadow over the postwar decades. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

16.01.2022 With Covid-19 spreading across our nation, I want to assure our community that the Meredith Fire Brigade remains committed to responding to any emergency. We will be ceasing all training and meetings until further notice as directed by the Chief Officer to maintain social distancing. We are fortunate to have very experienced members so this will not affect our capabilities when responding to emergencies. Please stay safe and follow all guidelines as per government direction...s. We will get through this working together as one.
