24.01.2022 CROCHET HIGHLIGHT It's been a couple of weeks since our last highlight post and our members have been churning out the goods! Our first creation is by member Lyn Farr. This gorgeous corner to corner rug was made with love for Lyn's granddaughter who loves the colour blue! It's soft and squishy and reminds us of the ocean. Our second creation is from the fastest crocheter I've ever encountered!! Our member, Sue Pickup, seems to be working on a new rug everytime we see her -... and we LOVE it! This rug is a present to herself and Sue has used a cozy 'Man-ghan' pattern and wool from Spotlight. Our last highlight is from one of our brand new members of the group, Lorraine. Lorraine has tried her hand at French Knitting using a loom that she picked up from Pricesplus. Lorraine has created a mat using chenille yarn. We hope that this is the first of many new projects! Well done everyone - glad that you are enjoying the crochet group! See more

23.01.2022 The Centre held our AGM last night - sending out our thanks to everyone who came along to support us! General Business saw Cr. Sue Perry presenting a donation of $15 000, on behalf of the Burdekin Shire Council, to the Centre. This was gratefully accepted by President Kay Duggan. We certainly couldn't do what we do without Council's support. We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with the Council for the advancement of our Burdekin community. 23.01.2022 CROCHET HIGHLIGHT Crochet group member Sue Pickup has whipped up another 'Bunny Rug'. This time in a gorgeous aqua colour (yep photo looks blue - but promise it's not). Using Baby Tizz wool - it has this great fleck of silver through it - giving these rugs just that little bit extra! This is a gift for a 'yet to be hatched' bubba! Love your work as always Sue!

18.01.2022 CROCHET HIGHLIGHT Crochet group member Clytha Nicolaides has created this lovely colourful rug as a gift for a family member. We love that Clytha has used her own pattern to work up this rug AND used left over wool from her other projects create this cozy creation! Well done Clytha!! If you would like to be part of our crochet community please contact the Centre to find out more!!

16.01.2022 CROCHET HIGHLIGHT Another beautiful rug by Sue Pickup. This is a gift for herself!!! Love that! This is an adaption of the Winter Jewels Afghan and Sue used 4 seasons stallion 8ply acrylic in these gorgeous muted shades of grey, pink and white. This is certainly a rug that would make you feel special when curled underneath it or be a statement piece in any room. Well done Sue!

14.01.2022 CROCHET HIGHLIGHT Ain't Mums great!! Both of our crochet projects today have been created by member Clytha Nicolaides. The colourful rug has been crafted using varigated 8ply acrylic and the Moscato pattern. Yep, we could see a glass of wine being had all cosied up under this rug! This is a gift for Clytha's daughter. The second project is a lovely, cream, lacy stole. It is soft and warm and a versatile colour that will complement a lot of outfits. Clytha used 8ply acryli...c and this will be a gift for Clytha's other daughter. Clytha tells us that both patterns were easy to work up and would be beginner friendly!! See more

12.01.2022 PLEASE SHARE! The Burdekin Support Group of Parkinson's Qld is BACK!! We are pleased to welcome the support group back to the Centre on FRIDAY, 28th August at 10.00am. Looking forward to seeing people there! Living with Parkinson’s disease or caring for someone with Parkinson’s is full of challenges, but you don’t have to feel alone. The support group is an informal gathering of people who share similar experiences, situations or problems. Parkinson’s Queensland support gro...ups offer members a chance to meet and talk with others while offering each other emotional and practical support. Besides helping you realise you are not alone, the support group gives you a chance to share your feelings and hear the experiences of others. Meetings are informal and friendly, and new members are always welcome. Parkinson’s disease support groups are ideal for people living with Parkinson’s disease, their carers, friends and family members. Support groups encourage the growth of knowledge. By knowing more about Parkinson’s disease through the experience of others, and through professional resources, you will discover new ways of dealing with your own symptoms and challenges. Support groups can help you renew your sense of hope in dealing with changes to your lifestyle, and offer you the chance to make new friends. https://www.parkinsonsqld.org.au/support-us/support-groups/

07.01.2022 CROCHET HIGHLIGHT Our crochet group member Sue Pickup has delivered another rug! This pink varigated wool rug was made as a gift for Sue's friend, Wendy. Now, we were a little confused by the name of the pattern of the rug...'Stashaholic's Brain Dead Afghan' - but Sue tells us it is quite apt as it's a one row repeat pattern - which means it's hundreds of rows of the same stitch. Well done Sue - we are sure Wendy will enjoy snuggling under this pink paradise for many years to come!!

02.01.2022 CROCHET HIGHLIGHT Crochet group member Alison Nicholls has been busy!! We are loving this vibrant blue 'corner to corner' rug. The inside lighting just didnt do the colours justice - so a trip outside was called for! Alison made this for a family members beach house - whose decor is predominantly in the blue hues. This labour of love took 2 months, almost to the day, to complete and 11 balls of Icecream yarn from Silly Solly's. ... Alison is especially proud of the way she has completed the border. We love it too Alison!! Great job! We are sure it will be used for many years to come, to snuggle under on a cool evening at the beach! See more
