07.01.2022 PLEASE SHARE - Our Councillors have listened to your concerns and voted in favour of changing the water restrictions hours to accommodate the needs of our older... residents. Residents can now use sprinklers and irrigation systems from 4pm through to 8am. Hand-held hoses are still able to be used by an adult at anytime. Businesses should voluntarily reduce their operational use of water and abide by the restrictions for watering gardens and lawns. Residents and businesses using bore water should place a sign at the front of their premises saying "Bore water in use" to prevent any misunderstandings. See more

06.01.2022 Water restrictions lifted for Burdekin ShireWater restrictions have been lifted in the Burdekin Shire, meaning residents can now water at any time, on any day, with any device. Council introduced Level 1 Water Restrictions throughout the Shire on October 1, 2015, to ensure adequate water supply was maintained for residents during dry conditions which saw the dam and underground water levels drop. Burdekin Mayor Lyn McLaughlin thanked the community for largely adhering to the ...water restrictions. Since the implementation of Level 1 Water Restrictions, water consumption in the Burdekin has stablised, Cr McLaughlin said. This is a good outcome but there is still plenty of opportunity to be more conscious of how we treat this precious resource. The vast majority of our water consumption comes from activities such as watering gardens or hosing down your car, not essential activities such as bathing or wastewater requirements. The Queensland Government website suggests the following waterwise gardening tips: Don’t over water waterlogged soil encourages growth of bacteria; Let your plants indicate when they are in need of water; Thorough but infrequent watering encourages plants to develop deeper root systems, giving them inbuilt drought protection; and Avoid watering in the middle of the day.Cr McLaughlin said that although water restrictions had been lifted water consumption should not have a marked increase. If we can all just be a little bit more conscious of how we use our water then it will be better for everyone in the long run. See more
