20.01.2022 parkrun reflections by BG parkrun Run Director, Neill Taylor, and family... #loveparkrun What makes parkrun special to you? Just running with my Dad and seeing all the people there and talking to them.... Who or what encouraged you to attend your first parkrun? My Dad asked me to volunteer with him as well as my brother and it was really fun. What is a favourite memory or favourite routine aspect of parkrun for you? Going to have hot chocolates with my Dad after parkrun at Ruby's Cafe in Evatt. I also enjoyed getting my parkrun PB at Braidwood and it was 27 minutes and something seconds. parkrun is the BEST! Imogen Taylor (10) ------------------- ------------------- What makes parkrun special to you? Volunteering and seeing all the people enjoying themselves. It's nice to be able to make people happy. Who or what encouraged you to attend your first parkrun? My Dad encouraged me to come along and volunteer and give people high-fives while they were running. From there i sort of just kept going to parkrun. What is a favourite memory or favourite routine aspect of parkrun for you? Finishing my first ever parkrun. I felt so happy and i got a big hug from my Dad. Xavier Taylor (13) ------------------- ------------------- What makes parkrun special to you? For me it's the positivity, inclusiveness and community spirit that make parkrun so special. It doesn't matter whether you run, walk or volunteer. It doesn't matter whether you're 4 years old or in your 90s or anywhere in between; there's something in it for everyone. Who or what encouraged you to attend your first parkrun? In 2012 a friend invited me to come along to parkrun as a way to keep fit during the dragonboating off-season. Although I'd never been a very keen runner I was hooked on parkrun after my very first event. What is a favourite memory or favourite routine aspect of parkrun for you? Hopefully i can be sneaky and mention my two favourite aspects of parkrun: Volunteering - I really love getting out with my kids and volunteering at parkrun. It's a fun activity we can all do together and an easy way to give back to the parkrun community. Our favourite roles are marshal (especially giving out high-fives) and photographer. Running with my kids - When i first started parkrun it was primarily about improving my times. Now that my kids are old enough to run with me it's not about the times but sharing that Saturday morning parkrun experience with them. Neill Taylor (Run Director, Burley Griffin parkrun)

15.01.2022 parkrun reflections by Burley Griffin parkrun Event Director: Dave Turner #loveparkrun What makes parkrun special to you? The community of people. parkrun has a special inclusive approach. I enjoy sharing in the success of others and watching people grow in confidence. There is such positivity each and every Saturday morning.... Who or what encouraged you to attend your first parkrun? My mum (pictured). She is a regular at Curl Curl parkrun in Sydney. parkrun has given her an active lifestyle and a truly fantastic group of friends What is a favourite memory or favourite routine aspect of parkrun for you? My favourite event was Christmas Day parkrun in 2018 (as pictured). I was the Run Director in charge on the day and was overwhelmed by the large turn out, the fun costumes, the gratitude to and from all the other volunteers and participants. It was the happiest parkrun I've ever witnessed. Every Christmas for me starts with parkrun (volunteering or running)

15.01.2022 Volunteer milestone today: Graham Pfitzner - 25 volunteers That's the equivalent of 6 months volunteering as a hi-vis hero. Graham loves giving back to our community and sharing the positivity that is parkrun. Thank you Graham!

14.01.2022 Reflections from BG Run Director, Bronwyn Cooper #loveparkrun What makes parkrun special to you? That so many people around the world join in and enjoy it. It is fantastic when you are travelling to know that you can just pop down to the local parkrun and join in with the community. ... Who or what encouraged you to attend your first parkrun? I was living in London and often saw a group of runners congregating on Wimbledon Common on the weekends. I eventually found out who they were and what they were doing. I joined them on an overcast and icy February morning when a few hundred people emerged out of the freezing fog to run. That was my parkrun initiation. What is your favourite memory or favourite routine part of parkrun? Most recently, my favourite times at parkrun have been running with my extended family over Christmas and New Year. It is lovely to see my little nieces and nephews running or walking with grandparents. Although, at times, a little less talking and a little more running from them would be helpful! Bronwyn Cooper (Run Director, Burley Griffin parkrun)

14.01.2022 The next parkrun in the ACT will be Saturday 2 Jan. See below, there are NO additional New Year's Day events. Please circulate this update to your parkrun networks that may or may not use Facebook
