21.01.2022 Today is #MakeMusicDay! We are so pleased to tell you that over the past couple of weeks, our home at Grainger Studio has again been filled with the sound... of music as we come together to work on repertoire in sections and small ensembles. We might be sitting a little further apart than before, but we’re one step closer to being able to entertain, motivate and inspire our audiences. We hope you experience the joy of making music today! #MakeMusicDayOz

21.01.2022 Hans Rott (1858-1884) was a Viennese visionary composer whose short life ended at the age of 25 in a lunatic asylum. He was the favourite student of his organ teacher Anton Bruckner and a fellow student of Gustav Mahler. Both recognised his outstanding talent. Paul Banks, Professor of Historical Musicology at the Royal College of Music, London wrote 'One wonders what Rott could have achieved if his life had not been so tragically short.' 18.01.2022 Ten years passed between Tchaikovsky's Fourth and Fifth symphoniesa decade which saw his international reputation grow as he finished Eugene Onegin, the Violin Concerto, the 1812 Overture, the Serenade for Strings, a second piano concerto, the Manfred Symphony, the A minor piano trio, and Capriccio Italien. As he began this symphony, Tchaikovsky feared his muse was exhausted. 'I am dreadfully anxious to prove not only to others, but also to myself, that I am not yet played o...ut as a composer.' 02.01.2022 After a performance of Symphony No 5 in Hamburg in March 1889, with which Tchaikovsky was satisfied, he wrote: 'The musicians took to the music more and more each time the symphony was played. At rehearsals there was general enthusiasm, flourishes, etc. The concert also went excellently. As a result, I no longer have a bad opinion of the symphony, and like it once more. The Fifth Symphony was again performed magnificently, and I have started to love it again; my earlier judgement was undeservedly harsh...'
