01.01.2022 MARCH 2018 NEWSLETTER - BUS FOR ORPHANAGE I haven’t visited you for a while so I will give a short update on the bus situation at Tumaini Miles of Smiles. As you know from my previous newsletter, the delivery of the bus was amazingly successful amid much celebrations and fanfare. Since that time, a regular bus driver has been employed and is proving most trustworthy and safe. The children, some of whom have never been outside the orphanage gates, have been on a two day ca...mp. What an eye opener it was for them.there is another world out there!! The bus has been also used to take the children to a sports carnivalwhich they wouldn’t have previously attended because they had too far to walk. Now, ALL the students want to go. What a change this has been. Other activities have been attended also, as well as picking children up around the community who otherwise wouldn’t come to school. On the downside, the Government has passed a law that all school buses must be painted yellow. As you know, Tumaini’s bus is green. No amount of pleas and presentations has persuaded the Government to make an exemption in the case of Tumaini. So a new paint colour it has to be, all at more cost of course. A very disappointing outcome. Now..on the UP, UP side. Rose Bugusu who is the founder/director of Tumaini is coming to Alexandra to talk to all of you who have so generously supported her and the orphanage. This is a great opportunity for you to see and meet this amazing woman who is the real face of Tumaini Miles of Smiles. You are all welcome to come along on 18th April at 7.00 pm at the function room at the Mt. Pleasant Hotel to hear Rose speak.
