03.01.2022 FUN FACT FRIDAY! Did you know that between 15-20% of the energy required by grazing cattle is used for walking (activity)? There has been a lot of research on distance travelled by cattle which has found that cattle walk a similar distance each day regardless of paddock size and distance to water. So it is effectively a fixed requirement, like maintenance.... There is a tool on our website which calculates the energy demand of a breeding female and shows what energy is required for maintenance (including activity), pregnancy, lactation and what the calf grazes. Go to https://www.bushagri.com.au/ae/ and it is point #3 under 'How do you apply AE's'.
