03.01.2022 Benefits of Bush Playgroups 1. Self-esteem and confidence Bush playgroups enhance self-esteem and confidence by allowing children the space and time to learn in their own way and according to their own interests. Small achievable tasks enable children to experience feelings of success. A sense of confidence can be boosted with the regularity and routine of the bush playgroup sessions and knowledge of the rules and the boundaries. 2. Physical development Bush playgroups prov...ide an environment that allows for a variety of different movements and activities to naturally take place as a part of the childrens play (tree-climbing, balancing). This enhances the development of gross motor skills, balance, depth perception, fitness and stamina. Craft activities can contribute to fine motor skills and eye hand co-ordination and all the senses can be used to experience the environment. 3. Social and emotional development Bush playgroups provide an amazing setting for children to development teamwork skills as they problem solve and play. There is the opportunity for the children to interact with peers and adults. Children develop empathy and understanding of other people as well as the ecosystem around them through their regular interactions. They have the opportunity to discover their own personal strengths and the strengths of others which enables them to feel valued and able to contribute to the group in a meaningful way. They learn skills of sharing, being comfortable to operate independently and to seek assistance when they require it. 4. Resilience The children develop resilience by undertaking challenging tasks, being around a diversity of people and experiencing a range of weather conditions. 5. Spiritual A childs spiritual world can be enhanced by mindfulness practices, being allowed time to see and notice and connect with the world around them. 6. Intellectual (including creative and independent learning) Bush playgroups contribute to the intellectual development of children through their play and interactions with others. The use of language and communication during their play, negotiations and the activities they are involved in enhances their vocabulary and capacity to express their needs, feelings and to describe the world around them. The children learn to observe and understand and care for the environment they are in. The children learn problem-solving skills and can explore math concepts using natural materials. Children learn to use all their senses to explore their environment and express their creativity through imaginative play, mud play, painting and other craft activities. See more
