08.01.2022 SO cool - we found a Bowerbird ‘bower’. Check out all the treasures!!!! If you look closely you will spot marbles, bolts, bracelets, shells, snails etc. The male Bowerbird creates this magnificent ‘playground’ area to attract females. This is not the actual nest but more of an attractive mating spot. 05.01.2022 Noticing things in nature: What can you see? An easy activity to enjoy on a walk or when out exploring. By simply asking the question ‘What can you see?’ we can promote interest and tune children into the environment around them. We went on a short walk around the backyard this morning and Miss 2 spotted some interesting things (see photos). She was excited to find some bees and also ‘the man’ which is a termite mound with clothes on in our neighbours backyard Benefits ...of this activity: Children will start to point out and notice different things in their environment. Watch this grow over time By repeating this activity some children may start to become nature detectives and notice things without being asked the question Noticing patterns in nature at different times of the day eg; the birds eat the berries in the afternoon. It is fun for children and adults of all ages to learn from each other. A toddler may notice something that can easily be missed by others! How to spark interest and take the activity further: Change the focus of what you are looking for eg; creepy crawlies, colours, treasures, leaves etc. This can vary according to age. Take photos of what you find to keep a ‘photo’ diary. Share with family and friends Paint a picture of what you can see Older children may like to research some facts about what they can see or what they have found. Any other ides? Please share below Enjoy Bush to Beach Nature-Based Programs #bushtobeachnature #darwinkidsnatureplay #darwinbusinessmum #ntkids #darwinnt #darwinkids #darwinbusiness #naturelearning #outdoorlearning #bushkids
