17.01.2022 In my first business, on the outside, it looked like I had all my sh!t together... well I hope it did anyway as I worked so hard to make it seem easy and that I was 'fine'! People offered to help, but I thought I could do it ALL myself. I worked SO hard and yes I did have a successful business, however I was frantically swimming like a duck going flat out ‘under water’ and on the inside I was only just keeping it together. NO.1 lesson I learnt was you MUST get help. Ba...ck then, I didn't have a mentor or anyone guiding me, I had to figure it all out on my own. I was totally exhausted and that was before I had kids! Fast forward to my current business and the juggle is still real. But this time I'm not doing it alone. When I started my second business, it was time that I put on my ‘big girl pants’, put a stop to all the crappy BS stories (ie roadblocks) playing over and over in my head! Now I have kids, my family are far too important to me to feel that exhausted again. I wanted to be ok with spending time with them and on my business, without the guilt. This time in business, I've invested in me - I've got mentors supporting me (yes, more than one) instead of burning myself out. Here are some of the lessons I've learned: There is a process to building a business and I've worked out how to make it simple (anyone can follow it) I’ve worked out how to get sh!t done and not waste time fluffing around (yep, you know what I mean) I’ve invested in me first, backing myself in what I know I’m good at Isn't it time you invested in you? There is no one size fits all. It takes grit, persistence and having a damn hard look at ourselves to survive in business and, let me tell you if I can do it, so can you. 02.01.2022 I am devestated to hear that Sir Ken Robinson has passed away. He was such an inspiration to me. He was the first person that I heard who reflected my thoughts and feeling about our current education system and the importance creativity plays in learning, ideas, wellbeing, and social and emotional development. I remember reading his book The Element and being blow away by the concept! I am still finding my element, but his work gave me hope and drive to keeping searching. I ...sit writing this with tears in my eyes. An incredible mind on an important mission.... i know his legacy will live on.
