21.01.2022 Thinking of employing a high school graduate or school-based apprentice? Are you aware that senior secondary schooling in Queensland has changed? Year 12 students in 2020 will be the first to graduate under the new Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) system. The new QCE system prepares students for the 21st century by giving them the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to participate successfully in the economy and broader community and thrive in a complex and rapidly changing world. Under the new system eligible students will receive an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) instead of an Overall Position (OP). In Queensland, the ATAR recognises a broader range of learning, including the significant role vocational education and training (VET) plays in senior studies. 10.01.2022 From today (1 October), the density of people allowed in an outdoor public space will change from 1 person per 4 square metres, to 1 person per 2 square metres. This means more people can enjoy beer gardens, outdoor cafes and alfresco dining options across Queensland. For indoor venues, if your business has a floor space less than 200 square metres you can have 1 person per 2 square meters, up to 50 people; and for those venues with a floor space of more than 200 square metr...es, it’s 1 person per 4 square metres. The Queensland Government also announced that the maximum number of people allowed at community events with a COVID-safe checklist will increase from 500 to 1,000 people. 09.01.2022 The Australian Business Growth Fund was recently launched by the Australian Government With an initial investment pool of $540 million, the fund will soon engage with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with annual revenue between $2 million and $100 million and a track record of growth and profitability. It will offer long-term equity capital investments between $5 million and $15 million to support innovation, expansion and new job opportunities in the SME sector. 08.01.2022 A new national scheme will help small businesses get paid on time. The Payment Times Reporting Scheme has been passed by the Federal Senate and will take effect from 1 January 2021.
