23.01.2022 What is PEMF Therapy How Does It Help Your Horse? When areas of a horse's body get compromised by athletic performance, aging, overuse, illness or injur...y... their cells actually lose their charge. The cells become rigid, flat and less permeable, keeping toxins and waste stuck inside. Injured cells actually clump together, which create visible ridges or knots. PEMF Therapy (Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field) Therapy introduces a gentle pulsing magnetic field which passes through the body. As it does this, it switches on and off. When the magnetic field switches on, it actually stretches any injured or compromised cells, when it switches off, the cells relax. This "stretch and relax" motion increases the permeability and softens the cell wall, allowing oxygen and nutrition to enter and waste and toxins (inflammation) to flow out. The cell charge goes back up, blood gets super oxygenated, circulation is increased and as the cells begin to heal your horse starts to feel GREAT! Energy is improved and recovery time is reduced as the super oxygenated blood passes through their body for up to 72 hours after treatment. Pain is relieved, not by masking the problem with drugs, but by enhancing a bodies ability to actually heal itself! Performance, suppleness and range of motion are improved by freeing up the cells and reducing the stored inflammation. Most riders comment on how loose and free the horses shoulders feel and they notice a BIG difference... even after just one session! Want to see the difference in your horses? Book a session today!

13.01.2022 Margaret (Marg) Elizabeth (Young) McIver 7th August 1933 - 21st July 2020 Please have a look at the September edition of Horse Deals, page 40. There is a fabul...ous article on Equestrian Legend, Margaret McIver. Quote from Moya Jess: Marg has such an eye for detail and was so fastidious about establishing the correct basics. She was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in 2000, was a level 111 coach, an A Level Judge and Victorian representative on the National Dressage Council. Marg was a life member of EA, the Victorian Dressage Club, NSW Dressage Council, Western Victorian Dressage Club and a Life Member of the Victorian Young Rider Dressage Squad and it’s Patron. Margaret influenced so many riders. RIP Marg From DIL, Jan McIver And was granted an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Ballarat for Sports Science. Something that overwhelmed Marg at the time! As she was often in trouble in class at Ballarat’s Clarendon College. (she just wanted to go riding)

04.01.2022 A COVID SAFE RETURN TO EQUESTRIAN ACTIVITIES ... 15 MAY 2020 UPDATE 1. RETURN TO EQUESTRIAN SPORT On Monday, 11 May 2020 the Victorian Government made announcements relating to the easing of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These included allowing people to participate in outdoor activities, or for community sports, to train in groups of up to 10 people. Equestrian Victoria supports this approach as it recognises that sport and exercise play a critical role in the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of Victorians, but importantly, the approach must be balanced with mitigating the risk of transmitting Coronavirus. As such, the State Government has developed the following principles to guide the lifting of restrictions around sport and exercise. Sport and exercise can resume if: you keep your distance while performing the activity (at least 1.5 metres apart); you are not doing your activities indoors and they are not competitive; and you can do them with a maximum of 10 people. For the sake of clarity, the Government (DHHS) stipulates that you can participate in training for all sports, but it must be non-contact, with only 10 people participating at any one time in addition to those people running the training (e.g. coach, manager). Further details can be found on the DHHS website. While this provides an opportunity for many of us to get back into participating in equestrian activities outside of our home environment, Equestrian Victoria wants to emphasise that how we all collectively act in the coming weeks will directly affect the health of our community and our sport’s ability to return to more regular equestrian activity in the near future. We are being provided an opportunity to enjoy a level of sport and exercise outdoors in the short term, but we must not compromise safety, nor the reputation of the sport, at this vitally important time. Remember: Your outdoor sport or exercise activity can be part of a club, but you cannot use club facilities, except toilets. Use of shared sporting equipment e.g. tack, should be minimised and there should be no sharing of equipment that touches the face or head (e.g. helmets, coaching headsets). If the activity involves shared equipment, only equipment with smooth, hard surfaces should be available for use and the equipment should be sanitised between users. Equipment with hard and smooth surfaces are easy to disinfect by wiping between users, however, the preference is for people to use their own equipment wherever possible. Equipment available for loan or hire to different individuals or groups should be limited to equipment that can be effectively sanitised between users. On Monday 18 May, Equestrian Victoria will be releasing its ‘Return to Equestrian Sport’ Plan with specific information relating to each discipline. 2. INFORMATION FOR PROFESSIONAL EQUESTRIANS Definition of ‘Professional Equestrian’ A person who depends on participation in equestrian sport for their main income. Note this is income based, i.e. professional status defines how you make your living not how well, or at what level, you ride. It does not include coaches, officials, or agistment centres. Refer Australian Taxation Office definition. As part of the above ‘Return to Equestrian Sport’ roll out, high performance and professional sport can now resume full training and competition in line with Chief Health Officer’s Directions. This is under the condition that individuals and/or organisations have comprehensive risk management plans in place in line with the Professional Sports Guidance Note. This includes: Normal training allowed with strict hygiene and safety procedures in place Use of indoor physical recreation facilities where the facility is only used by a single professional sports person at any one time and is only used for training purposes. High performance and professional sport is provided with this allowance on the basis that professional equestrians are undertaking these activities at venues that are a place of work and they are able to put in place comprehensive risk mitigation plans. A full list of activities and how the current restrictions apply is now available on the SRV website. These activities are examples only. Please ensure you review the Chief Health Officer’s Directions to understand how they apply to you and how you can be consistent with the rules. The website also has helpful FAQs for organisations and participants. 3. WHAT CONSTITUTES AN INDOOR ARENA? We have received many queries around the use of Indoor Arenas, and we hope to answer all queries as clearly as possible. An Indoor Arena is an arena that is substantially enclosed by a roof and walls, regardless of whether the roof or walls or any part of them are permanent, temporary, open or closed. Substantially enclosed means: Premises that have a ceiling or roof but there is an opening or an aggregate area of openings in the walls which is less than half of the area of the walls (including other structures that serve the purpose of walls and constitute the perimeter of the premises). If your arena has: A roof and no walls it is NOT an indoor arena - it is a COVERED Arena A roof and is enclosed by full height walls it is an INDOOR arena Half height (or thereabouts) walls BUT has OPENINGS the area of which MAKE UP MORE THAN HALF THE AREA OF THE WALLS, including any other structures that serve the purpose of walls and constitute the perimeter of the premises, then your arena is NOT an indoor arena. Example 1: My arena has a roof and is 60m x 20m. I have full height walls down one long side and down one short side. The other two sides have half height walls. Therefore, my arena is SUBSTANTIALLY ENCLOSED (more than 50% is wall) and is therefore technically an Indoor arena. Example 2: My arena has a roof and is 60m x 20m. I have half height (or lower) walls all the way around my arena. My arena is therefore NOT SUBSTANTIALLY WALLED and is therefore technically NOT an Indoor arena. Figure 1 and Figure 2 definition of enclosed and substantially enclosed. 4. INFORMATION FOR PRIVATE INDOOR ARENAS OWNERS An indoor arena is able to be used for personal use by the owner/s of the property on which the arena is situated. Definition of a privately owned arena a facility which is NOT operated on a ‘for-profit’ or ‘not-for-profit’ basis, and is at the person’s private residence and not available for communal use. Example 1: I have an indoor arena on my own property and do not derive any income from it. Can I ride in it? YES, however this is limited to the resident/s of the property. Having visitors attend to train on your indoor arena is not in the spirit of State Government directives refer to Equestrian Sport. Example 2: I have an indoor arena on my agistment property, can my agistees ride in it? Agistment centres need to act in accordance with State Government directives and we will be communicating with those centres that have registered with Equestrian Victoria. If you would like to register your agistment centre please do so online here. If you are still unsure or need support with regard to the above information please email: [email protected] Thank you again for your patience and responsible approach to ensuring the health and safety of our community. 03.01.2022 VALE - MARGARET McIVER Last week, 21 July 2020, we lost a wonderful horsewoman, Margaret was 86 years old. A judge, mentor, teacher and friend to many, but especially here in Western Victoria. Marg was first involved in show jumping and eventing. Some of our older members will remember her horse Pyewacket, placing second in the open at Melbourne 3 Day event in the 70’s. Marg then was a trailblazer in the dressage with the big horse CK (named after the breeder Colin Kell...y). She was our first representative at the summer Olympics in Los Angeles 1984. In a bid to qualify for the Olympics, Margaret, who was largely self- taught, travelled to Europe in the early 1980’s leaving her husband Ken and children for six months. In May 2007 Marg was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Ballarat in recognition of her contribution to dressage in Australia. She is an honorary life member of Equestrian Australia. So we, as members and friends of Western Victorian Dressage Club say goodbye to our esteemed judge and offer sincere condolences to her sons Ken (Charlie) and wife Jan and son Sam, wife Jane and their extended families. 02.01.2022 Message from EV / Memberships PRELIMINARY DRESSAGE Membership: Preliminary Dressage membership will provide entry level membership with full competitor rights for Preparatory, Preliminary and Novice classes only at official Dressage Victoria events, and Participant level membership rights in all other disciplines..... **Important Notice about Membership** 2020/2021 MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS As we begin to implement our ‘return to sport’ plan, like many sports, we have been faced with decisions around how we continue to comply and adapt to the changes in restrictions as well as how we best support our community to get back to training and competition as soon as possible. Our focus has been, and remains, on ensuring a strong future for our sport. The impact that COVID-19 has had on our community has certainly been considered in our decision making, but it has not been our only challenge. The news that Equestrian Australia was placed into Voluntary Administration has created some uncertainty, however, we are pleased to confirm that the states, working together with the Voluntary Administrators, are in the process of finalising insurance for the coming 2020/21 year and as a result the Equestrian Victoria Board has confirmed the membership fees for the 2020/21 year will remain unchanged from 2019/20. While membership fees remaining unchanged is positive, we also recognise that a segment of our members may also be experiencing some financial stress. As a result, the Equestrian Victoria Board has introduced a new category Recreational Membership. RECREATIONAL MEMBERSHIP Recreational Membership ensures that as a new or renewing member, you are fully insured 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through to 30 June 2021. It also allows members to secure membership now ahead of a return to competition, with the opportunity to upgrade (to participant or competitor), without penalty at a later date, having already paid a portion of membership fees. Note: In order to participate in EV discipline squads, clinics or competitions you will still have to have at minimum a 'Participant' Membership. We hope the introduction of a Recreational Membership goes some way to alleviating the financial burden associated with membership renewal, by providing peace of mind that you are covered and able to enjoy the associated benefits of Equestrian Victoria membership. Membership renewals will open on Tuesday 23 June 2020 at midday and further information about Membership options, including the cost of Recreational Membership will be published on Monday. We thank you in advance for your patience throughout this time and rest assured, we are here to support you in your equestrian journey MATTHEW BROWN CEO - Equestrian Victoria Live Your Equestrian Dream
