19.01.2022 "Aussie parents are spending tens of millions each year on over-the-counter medicines that could be harming their children, alarming new research from the Royal... Children’s Hospital Melbourne has found. With flu season just behind us, well-meaning parents have doled out cough-and-cold medicine to their young children, often on the recommendation of a health professional, but poll director and paediatrician Dr Anthea Rhodes said that was a very worrying trend. The poll revealed a third of children under the age of six have been given cough-and-cold medication, despite warnings that the medicine isn’t recommended for young children and could actually be doing them more harm than good. We all struggle to cope with our kids’ coughs and colds over winter, but for young children these medicines are known to be ineffective and in some cases potentially harmful, Dr Rhodes said.
