19.01.2022 For adventure climbing it's best to have a pack with no back pocket. But in 2009 Ian Brown and I wanted to climb the NE ridge of Mt Madeleine, Fiordland, which would entail crossing the Daran Ranges and take up to five days. It was a lot of gear to fit into a Kanangra, so I made one with a detachable back pocket. It was a great success and I have been using it ever since. On a later bicycle trip from Paris to Milan, I found that the pocket was really useful as a satchel, so subsequently added mountings for a shoulder strap to complete the present carry-all model.
