14.01.2022 PINUPS, PLANES & PLENTY OF VINTAGE BIKES. As part of what has become a yearly event (although postponed last year due to Covid) members of the Distinguished Gentlemen's Motorcycle Club descended on the museum last Sunday for the opportunity to have professional photographer Mark Greenmantle (also responsible for the great pics of the pinups)take photos of them and their bikes with one of the warbirds. Also, a very welcome added attraction on the day was the judging of the nin...e finalists in the "Miss Wings, Wheels & Heels 2020/21" competition presented by Pinups of Australia and very capably compared by none other than Miss Bettie Butcher, "Australia's Hostess with the Mostest." Winners of the pinup competition were:- Miss Wings, Wheels & Heels: Miss Behave High Flyer (Runner Up): Sin Salute Pinup's Choice: Miss Suzy May

13.01.2022 These were taken at the Caboolture air show on 9 September 2001 (Date ring a bell? Add two days ... ) One of the best "air show" performers I ever witnessed. Th...e two photos showing it taxiing in "wings folded" mode, are interesting reminders that the aircraft was originally a carrier-borne fighter. For many years, I was under the impression that this particular aircraft was the Sea Fury formerly belonging to the Zuccoli Collection in Toowoomba, Queensland. However, since my original post, several members of this page have pointed out that this is not the case. It now seems this particular aircraft belonged to another Australian owner. This aircraft, along with others, was apparently the subject of a court case in Queensland some years ago. I don't know the outcome of the case, or the fate of this particular Sea Fury. If anyone can shed light on the recent history of this aeroplane, I would be delighted to hear from them. (Photos: RC/Lizardman.) See more

13.01.2022 Wayne Herring (L) from Gympie spent at least some of his 50th birthday on a high, literally, when he took to the skies with Museum President Ross Parker for an Adventure Flight in Wirraway 695.

12.01.2022 3 photos of historic DC3 reg. VH-ABR, taken at the Caboolture air show, September 2001. ABR was built in 1938 in the US, imported into Aust. by ANA that same ye...ar, then flew passenger services for several Oz airlines, finishing its regular passenger-carrrying with Ansett Airlines in 1972. It was then operated by Ansett as a "special purpose" historic aircraft, doing air shows, charity events, special charters, etc. - which brought it to Caboolture in 2001. Several weeks after these photos were snapped, Ansett famously went belly-up. Administrators kept ABR flying at special events till about 2008, when the aircraft was sold, fortunately to a series of Aust. owners. ABR went to the US for an extensive upgrade circa 2015, then returned here. I understand it is now owned by private Victorian interests with close ties to Melbourne Airport (presumably Tullamarine) where I believe it is now based, displayed, and sometimes flown for special events. Perhaps members of this site may have more up-to-date info about ABR's current status. (Photos: RC/Lizardman.) See more

08.01.2022 A visit to the museum during the holidays will give the kids a chance to learn about the history of both military and civil aviation. 04.01.2022 The Civil Aviation Historical Society has been very pleased assist Australia Post with a new stamp issue released today, 6 October 2020, titled 'Civil Aviation:... 100 Years'. The two stamps in the issue commemorate the centenaries of the Civil Aviation Branch of the Department of Defence (CAB - and its successors) and of Qantas. Both stamps also appear in a minisheet, which provides more context for the main images. The civil aviation regulation stamp features the CAB’s De Havilland D.H.50 G-AUAB which, in 1924, became the first landplane to circumnavigate Australia. The Controller of Civil Aviation, Horace Brinsmead, was using it to survey aerodrome sites for the new air services being established by the Commonwealth, including the Qantas outback Queensland services. Also featured are CAB Superintendent of Aerodromes Edgar Johnston and Major Harry Shaw of the Shaw-Ross Aviation & Engineering Company inspecting aerodrome sites, from one of the earliest CAB photos in the CAHS collection. The Qantas stamp features their latest Boeing 787-9 in the special centenary livery taking off at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport. In the background, the iconic Sydney Tower and two ARFFS Rosenbauer Panther Ultra Large Fire Vehicles provide a reminder that the success of Qantas over the years has been achieved in partnership with Airservices Australia and its predecessors. The background of the minisheet reinforces this with flight Eurocat air situation display symbology showing flight QFA10 (Qantas 10). The last 100 years of civil aviation in Australia establishes a record of which we can all be proud, and this stamp issue is a fitting tribute to the many men and women who have made that possible. You can find out more about this stamp issue, including an interview with CAHS Vice President Phil Vabre at: https://australiapostcollectables.com.au//commemorating-th Qantas centenary stamp: https://australiapostcollectables.com.au//philatelic-colle Technical details: https://australiapostcollectables.com.au//civil-aviation-1
