24.01.2022 There was a notice in the Advertiser this morning that our Treasurer of many years standing, Edita Bohm, died on 13th March, 2021. She was only 75. Edita was a thorough Treasurer, honest, reliable and hard working. She made my Presidency workable. Her mother, who I only knew as Mrs Bohm, was an old and hard working member of the Society. Edita was born in Austria in 1945, about two weeks after the end of WW2 and must have gone through terrible post-war dislocation and dif...ficult relocation to Australia. This is sad news for me and all her old friends. Gail Gunn

22.01.2022 Good evening friends, This afternoon Premier Steven Marshall addressed the public to inform us all of the latest government directions in response to the latest outbreak of Covid-19. We were advised by the Noarlunga Leisure Centre this afternoon that the venue will be closed from today until further notice in compliance with the directions. ... AS A RESULT OF THE VENUE CLOSURE AND AT SUCH SHORT NOTICE WE HAVE NO OPTION BUT TO CANCEL THE SPRING SHOW THIS WEEKEND. REGRETFULLY, THE SHOW CANNOT PROCEED AT THIS TIME AS PLANNED. We are heartbroken for all the members and friends who have put in so much time and effort in to organising the event and preparing their plants for sale this weekend. We are also truly sorry to disappoint all of you who have shown us great support. We will be processing refunds for all ticket purchases and we appreciate your patience as we work with Eventbrite to process your refunds as soon as possible. We will also look in to alternative events in the future or opportunities to shop online. Keep an eye on the page for any developments. Thank you for your understanding, Cactus and Succulent Society of SA

14.01.2022 Good morning everyone, please see below a message from the committee of the Cactus and Succulent Society of SA in relation to society activities in the foreseeable future: Dear members and fans, It is with great regret that we inform you all that the committee has elected to cancel the Autumn Show this year. ... The committee has been closely following health warnings relating to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) over the past weeks. Following yesterdays announcement by the Australian Government and leading health professionals recommending that all public events of over 500 people are to be avoided, the decision became clear. Over the course of the weekend we average 1000 attendees at our shows. Many of our members are in attendance for the whole weekend and quite a number are in the high risk category. Many of our friends and family members are also in the high risk category. With concerns for the health of our members and their loved ones at the forefront, the choice to cancel the show is in the best interests of us all. For the time being, general meetings will be continuing as scheduled. Please, read the advice/ instructions below for the safety of all of our members. This may seem excessive, however we have the best interests of our members health in mind. If you have been traveling overseas and/ or passing though large airports or transit hubs- please do not attend meetings if you have been traveling within 15 days prior to the meeting date and you are showing any symptoms. If you have come in to contact with anyone who has the Coronavirus or you have spent time with anyone suspected of having contact with the Coronavirus (due to travel, etc)- please do not attend meetings. If you have any symptoms associated with Coronavirus- please do not attend meetings. We dont want to create a situation where we have to ask you to leave. Symptoms can range from mild illness to pneumonia. Some people will recover easily, and others may get very sick very quickly. People with coronavirus may experience fever, flu-like symptoms such as coughing, sore throat and fatigue and shortness of breath. If you are in the high risk category or have close contact with people at high risk- please give consideration to not coming to meetings. Everyone should practice good hygiene to protect against infections. Good hygiene includes washing your hands often with soap and water, using a tissue and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze and avoiding close contact with others, such as touching. We will have hand sanitiser at the door at the March meeting- everyone, please use it. We will endeavor to have individually wrapped items for supper and we will use disposable cups to reduce the risk to each other. Take care, Aaron Schintler PRESIDENT CACTUS AND SUCCULENT SOCIETY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA

10.01.2022 Some pests are larger than others! Mice and rats love nothing more than a fresh Cactus seed pod. When they come for a visit they can make a real meal of it. To discourage them, remove plants with seed pods from the remainder of your collection and harvest seeds as soon as the pod is ripe.
