24.01.2022 An interesting article by Huppin and Scherer (2017) suggest that a clinician should ensure that 3D imaging devices allow them to follow four key criteria when capturing a 3D scan of the foot. The proposed criteria were stated as follows: (1) The foot image must be captured in a NWB STJ neutral position... (2) The first ray should be plantarflexed to the end of its range of motion during casting (3) The posterior heel must be captured in the foot image to allow frontal plane correction of the orthosis (4) The foot image must capture a precise 3D representation of the plantar aspect of the foot Several techniques that were deemed to not meet Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) criteria according to this article include foam impression boxes and pressure plates/mats. We receive a wide variety of digital scan formats from Podiatrists across the country. Many scanning formats do not seem to meet the above criteria. In particular the abundance of digital scans captured with handheld scanners without Podiatrists holding the patient's foot appear to compromise the orthosis manufacturing process. We have several team members that now have 3D scanning capabilities on their iOS and Android devices. Is this/should this be the next step for Podiatry? We believe a fundamental criteria for a 3D scanner is that it captures photographic information so that references may be marked on the patient's foot and translated through the manufacturing process for increased accuracy. What are your thoughts? Were Huppin and Scherer on the right path by advocating for a standardised procedure to capture the foot clinically? Regards, Cad Cam Orthotics

23.01.2022 To all my podiatry friends Trent Baker: I have known for some years and is very passionate about podiatry. I know he wants to implement change for the profession. As such, I thought I would attach this email for you all to read. Consider voting if you are a member of the APODC.... Subject: Board Election Candidate Trent Baker A message to all Australian Podiatry Association members. I am a Director Candidate for the Australian Podiatry Association Board. The election opens for voting at 4pm today (26th June) and closes on Friday 17th July, so I have a small window to gain your support. I have been a clinical Podiatrist for 20 years, in addition to working with our amazing team to build one of the most comprehensive multidisciplinary allied health businesses in Australia. I have a great deal to offer the continued development of our great profession. I have passion for Podiatry. I have the experience and connections to help create more for our profession and continue the great work that’s been done within the evolving Allied Health landscape. We are a very important cog in the health industry, and with the right leadership we can cement that position and create much more for Podiatry. I’m also the only candidate from NSW, so for those members from my state, It is exceedingly important we have representation and continued connection between the national association and our NSW members. If elected, I will be the only Director from NSW. Please follow the link to my candidate page on the APODA site and watch my video. Each member will receive a link from True Vote later this afternoon. That email will enable each member to access the voting portal which will hold the ballot ‘paper’. Once a member has voted they will be unable to vote gain. I would appreciate you forwarding this to other members you feel would be interested in supporting my candidacy. Thank you Trent Baker

22.01.2022 To our valued customers As you may have been aware the South Australian government has just decided to end this unprecedented lockdown earlier than expected. What this means is that we will be able to resume production on Monday 23rd November. As the lockdown restrictions will lift at midnight this Saturday night some of our crew have decided to help ease the backlog by coming back to work on Sunday 22nd November (unless further restrictions are announced). Whilst this won't... be enough to avoid delays with our dispatches, it will help go a long way to assist with getting things back on track. If you have any urgent dispenses please contact the workshop directly on 08 71278471 from 7am ACDT on Monday the 23rd November and we will do our utmost to facilitate these requests. At this stage we hope to clear the backlog by the end of next week and revert to our standard turn around times by the start of the following week. We really appreciate everyones patience throughout this trying process. Stay safe. Kind regards Cadcam

20.01.2022 For the past week our team have worked tirelessly around the clock re-tooling our entire workshop so that we can manufacture face shields for our front line health care workers. Our first pallets were sent off today to hospitals around the country. We hope that all of our Podiatry clients and their families are safe and healthy!

19.01.2022 To all our valued clients. Due to the snap decision by the South Australian government regarding our current COVID19 crisis we have unfortunately had to temporarily cease operations effective immediately. We had endeavoured to keep operations running as per the SA Health guidelines deeming that factories producing medical products could remain open but unfortunately a directive from the SA police today has meant we have been left with no choice but to temporarily close our ...doors. For our interstate clients this will unfortunately impact on our ability to dispense any orthotics currently in our workshop. We will resume operations as soon as we are given the green light to operate but at this stage there is no definitive date for this. Please be mindful of this when booking in orthotic dispenses. We will still be able to accept and process online submissions but unfortunately we won't be able to manufacture any of these. If you have any urgent matters that need to be attended to we will continue to monitor our workshop email which is: [email protected] For our local clients please stay safe. We really appreciate your ongoing support and words of encouragement we have received over the last couple of days. See you all on the other side! Kind regards Anthony, Natalie, Simon and all of the Cadcam team.

19.01.2022 Hello All I'd like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Simon Mead and I am the laboratory manager at Cadcam Orthotics. I will be working on our Facebook page in conjunction with Konrad Job to keep the content informative, factual and as up to date as possible. For those of you who haven't met me I have worked at Cadcam Orthotics for the better part of 17 years. My area of expertise is in manufacturing and customer service. I am always willing to learn new... things and that is the reason I have surrounded myself with like minded professionals. One thing that I would like to stress is that I am not a podiatrist. Whilst not being a podiatrist may have it's drawbacks I believe a major advantage of this is that I will never tell you how to do your job. Rather, I will listen to any questions or suggestions and work with you to achieve the optimal clinical outcome. Outside of work my main passion is of course my family, followed closely by travel. I firmly believe that life is about experiences and experiencing other cultures through travel is at the forefront of this. I am available to answer any of your manufacturing questions (or even just to chat about food and travel) through our Facebook page or you can speak to me directly at our laboratory. For those of you I haven't met I look forward to meeting you in the near future! Regards Simon Mead Cadcam Orthotics

14.01.2022 The team at Digital Orthotic Education are hosting a series of fantastic courses on the design and manufacture of custom foot orthoses during November across Perth and Adelaide. https://digiorth.mykajabi.com/store If you have been wanting to learn about computer-aided design software, 3D scanning methodology, biomechanical tests that help to guide custom foot orthosis prescription then we would highly recommend this course.... There will be a great mix of theoretical and practical elements to the course. Don't miss out as spots are limited! 12.01.2022 Now that Pizzagate is officially over we are back doing what we do best, making orthotics. These bad boys are fresh out of the oven.

10.01.2022 An interesting study by Widodo (2019) ‘Effect of In-Shoe Foot Orthosis Contours on Heel Pain Due to Calcaneal Spurs’ provides further evidence that when a foot orthosis shape confirms more closely with the patients foot morphology that there is a reduction in pain. Excellent pain relief was observed when using 100% insole foot area, as the pressures in those three areas (Medial Heel, Lateral Heel and Central Heel) are lower than the Pain Minimum Compressive Pressure (PMCP).... Do you find that conforming with the heel morphology helps to reduce heel pain?

06.01.2022 Weight bearing or non-weight bearing? How do you prefer to capture the foot? How does your prescription change when using different methods? We accept any format of capture at the lab as we elect to put the choice in the hands of the clinician. We have received extensive anecdotal evidence that when both methods are available to a clinician that non-weight bearing foot capture leads to an overall improvement in clinical outcomes. In the lab we can look at techniques that all...ow us to overlay 3D meshes to compare the differences between various scanning techniques. One consistent difference between methods involves the calcaneal inclination angle, but there are countless others. Many of our clients also understand that capturing an intrinsic forefoot valgus within the EVA orthosis can be highly clinically effective, which is not possible with a weight bearing capture of the foot. When would you gravitate toward capturing a weight bearing scan of the foot for the manufacture of custom foot orthoses?

03.01.2022 Many customers are familiar with our direct-machined EVA orthoses, but not many people know that we also produce innovative 3D printed designs based on customer requests. Today a customer asked us to generate a lightweight 3D printed pair of orthoses using black PA11 nylon. We produced a lightweight dual surface latticed orthosis that cut overall weight by approximately 50%. With 3D printing, our ethos is to produce designs not possible with our traditional vacuum formed manufacturing method, which is tried and tested in terms of part strength.

01.01.2022 A big shout out to the fourth year podiatry students who attended our inaugural grinder skills training day. It was a pleasure meeting you all and we hope you took away a few tips and learnt new tricks on the day. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours. A special thanks to Alistair Dahl as well as the members of the Podiatry student association for making this day possible.
