15.01.2022 Wishing our staff at high school student all the best with exams this week! We love the energy out younger Crew bring to the table. (All puns intended). They ...are a dynamic group of people, with a fantastic attitude. We have budding scientists, hospo professionals, artists and others who aren’t sure yet. So much appreciation for being amongst their world of growing up and shaping their future! See more

11.01.2022 The Lighthouse is having a party today! International Lighthouse Day, (Or this year WA lighthouse day). Spinners and Weavers are in the second cottage, the radio crowd are in the meeting room and the Volunteer Marine Rescue have the boat in the grounds for you to check out! Oh and the kitchen has hot Lamb and Gravy Rolls in a country-style ode to the sheep who used to graze the grounds until only about 15 years ago.

06.01.2022 Huge congratulations to the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse team on their recent Western Australian Heritage Awards win! Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse Precinct was named winn...er of the ‘Heritage Tourism Product’ category and received a commendation in the ‘Interpretation Product’ and ‘Conservation or Adaptive reuse of a State Registered Place’ categories. The Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association also received a commendation in the ‘Contribution by a Public or Private Organisation'. "Your dedication to the preservation of the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse precinct has ensured its cultural value is protected and can be experienced by future generations. I thank you for your work in creating a vibrant, immersive museum environment for visitors to the precinct, and for championing heritage management." The Lightkeeper's Cottage Interpretive Centre opened in December 2019 and shares the stories of the men and their families who lived at Cape Leeuwin and kept the candle burning. Tim Campbell

05.01.2022 Report on Hoodies at the Rivermouth A Hooded Plover nest at the rivermouth still has 3 eggs with an estimated 10 days before hatching and a Pied Oystercatcher c...hick has been sighted around the point to the north. It’s time for us all to play our part and give these little coastal birds room to raise their families. Hoodies and other shorebirds struggle to find a bit of undisturbed beach to breed and as a result their numbers are declining. You can help by: Keeping a look out for Hoodie families and give them the space they need to raise their young. Walking below the high tide line because nests are usually high on the beach. Keeping dogs to approved dog exercise areas. Reporting Hoodie sightings to your local Parks and Wildlife

04.01.2022 Country life! The Country Women’s Association was, and still is, an important part of our community. They had a market on the weekend, and I’m upset I missed o...ut on that Lemon Drizzle Cake! One of my most treasured cookbooks is a fourteenth edition of the famous cookbook my grandmother gave me before she died. Inside was a leaf of paper with two handwritten recipes for tomato chutney and tomato sauce. The cover was long gone, now covered in colourful contact (Nanna was a Year One for 43 years!) and pages have notes and ticks for favourite recipes. Sure, now we use the net for recipes, but there’s nothing like flicking pages of a cookbook, choosing which one and making comments about the recipe and little adjustments you made. My two cookbooks are 80% done now, just the finer details of presentation, so that maybe people can pass it on to others with a notes about a favourite recipe I have cooked for them. Well done CWA for banding together to support each other and supporting others. See more
