25.01.2022 All of these Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Officers/Paramedics are deadly. They are great role models in their communities. What makes them upset is when ...their ambulance gets damaged and they can’t help people and they all love helping people. Let’s all give our Ambulance Officers/Paramedics a pat on the back for the amazing work they do in our community. Please share this post and have the conversations about how important all of our emergency service workers, vehicles and equipment are to help the community in time of need. #livepositive #postpostive Queensland Police Service Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES State Emergency Service - Far Northern Region Surf Life Saving Queensland

01.01.2022 Aunty Pam is a true inspiration For a couple of years now, Aunty Pam Pederson, a 77-year-old Yorta Yorta woman has wanted to run a half marathon. Diagno...sed with breast cancer in 2016, Aunty Pam is now a breast cancer survivor who is always trying to improve her health. When COVID restrictions were set in place and she was unable to work, she decided now was the time to take control of her wellbeing. For Aunty Pam this meant eating healthily, going to bed early and exercising all leading to her ultimate goal of completing a half marathon. During March to May, Aunty Pam started training 6 days a week. Her regime, including running, cycling, weights, stretching and skipping. "Focus, train, train, train, that's all I could think about," Aunty Pam said. In May, her doctors recommended slowing down and start taking it easy. By Aunty Pam's measure of taking it easy, she means 'only' training three days a week. "When I walked out of the doctors, I remember thinking 'you don't know me!'" With 6 weeks left to achieve her initial goal of running a half marathon, on Sunday she went to suss out a marathon that was happening to just have a dorrie at the course. But when she arrived, she decided on the spot to give it a go and just see how far she could get. 3 hours and 36 minutes later, Aunty Pam achieved her goal! Running 21km. "I started getting tired with 3km to go, I use an app that's helped me, run 4 minutes, walk 1 minute." "I was amazed! 3 hours and 36 minutes! That's how long I can still run and still function and pull up well," Aunty Pam said. "Even my husband didn't know!" "I can't get over it, I just can't believe I did 21km!" After sharing her incredible achievement on Facebook yesterday, Aunty Pam has received an influx of support and encouragement. "I can't believe it, I've had over 300 messages on Facebook." "I'm so grateful and happy people could see it, and I hope it gives people a bit of spirit to get out there and achieve their own goals." So, what's next for Aunty Pam? "I want to run 10km without stopping and get a faster time. Oh, and she also wants to start swimming again and is aiming for a 1200 metre swim. "As an Aboriginal person, it's important to focus on my health, and encourage others." Lena-Jean Photography
